kelly are you watching take me out? I think the Ladies were liking the idea of number 3s money!!

pixieg1rl · 13/02/2016 21:15

Far from the Madding Crowd on. I forget that Michael Sheen is in it, because Matthias rather steals the limelight. Bloody love Michael Sheen.

pixieg1rl · 13/02/2016 21:29

Ooh, just had a thought, if they ever remake A Town like Alice (one of my favourite films/books) Matthias could defo play Joe Harman.

icemistOBE · 13/02/2016 21:44

Everyone in the house is asleep! I'm watching Casualty and flicking through my Ben OG photos

What side you watching that in pix? Was just looking through, and found Spooks instead, loved that!

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 21:46

"Oh my word" pix much as I like MS I really couldn't see anyone else in the role of Joe Harman other than Bryan Brown. I recall the series when it first came out and I think that's the best version ever with dear old Gordon Jackson as Mr Strachan. You can still catch it on You Tube if you don't mind it being in small segments. I've re watched it twice. For some reason it's never come out on DVD here because I'd definitely buy it.

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 21:51

For some stupid reason we don't have a DVD attached/integral to our main TV at the moment and I'm itching to put FFTMC on but I can't be arsed to sit in a cold conservatory to watch it although I've just remembered we've got a portable player here somewhere I might just plug in the old earphones and wallow in isolation without anyone disturbing me. That sounds like a good plan.

pixieg1rl · 13/02/2016 21:53

There was a bit in FFTMC when Gabriel was sat waiting for Everdine and he looked so much like an Aussie drover and I got a sudden desire to see him all sweaty and in a tiny pair of shorts and ankle boots

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 21:59

I see what you mean. Does he actually ever wear the smock or is that wishful thinking? Was it more of a shirt and waistcoat thing going on. I'd still like to point out that in my opinion that man is still incredibly chunky like an inverted isoceles triangle! (Base over Apex if you get my drift)

pixieg1rl · 13/02/2016 22:02

Oh no, he does wear a smock, when he's scything and Everdine is being seduced by Frank

-Everdine

  • Bathsheba
Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 22:10

Indeed and a manly one it is too. Thank goodness it's not one of those with the mutli-coloured fancy stitching panel circa the late sixties/early seventies.

BTW I think Everdene would have been a much nicer name than Bathsheba anyway!

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 22:14

Just waiting for woof to pop up on here any moment. I'm sure she's got some fancy gizmo on alert that scans the internet for any mention of Matthias or scything. Can't be long!

pixieg1rl · 13/02/2016 22:17

My mum dressed me and my brother in smocks in the mid 70s. She made them herself.

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 22:21

There's quite an art to smocking I believe. As a small child I had purple party dress that with a smocked front panel which I was required to wear to lots of parties and it itched like fury. I hated it. I know of one incriminating photo of me at the age of five with the rest of the party gang, wearing the said dress, complete with a pair of slippers that had a hole in the toe, You can see my white socked big toe peeping out. I had a spacehopper for my birthday that year - cutting edge stuff.

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 22:25

Oh and there was a pudding bowl hair cut to go with it - I cut a real dash!

Ilovelblue · 13/02/2016 22:27

Kelly hope you're feeling ok after your shock at the dentist! That is absolutely outrageous. I hope the cheapest option works for you.

I have dental insurance from work - I think I've mentioned it before - and at one time, it used to pay for nearly everything but these days, I only get around half the money back. My dentist is private too. The man who used to own the practice exploited the insurance scheme. I remember once (at the point where I used to get all my money back) he had put down that I'd had an x-ray, and I knew I hadn't. It was only an extra £5 on the bill and as I was getting a full refund, I didn't really care, but if he did that a few times a week, those £5 claims all mounted up! Mind you, when I had a particular treatment where the insurance company would only pay for one filling of this expensive type a year and I had had two, I asked the dentist if he could split it on the claim form as we were approaching year end. He just looked shocked and said "But that is fraud". I was on the verge of changing dentists after that but he decided to retire and the woman who took over actually reduced the charges a bit.

Ilovelblue · 13/02/2016 22:34

I used to be able to do smocking but not sure if I could remember now. My godmother's mother was a tailoress and she showed me how to do it.

I ache tonight! Digging out a compost heap is hard work but I have several buckets and containers of the end result ready for when I plant out my potatoes.

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 22:38

Yes, definitely a dying art Ilove wonder why?

I just found the said photo and showed it to DD who fell about laughing - definitely not a good look. She said "thank goodness I didn't have to wear stuff like that." Wonder what she'll say in twenty years when she looks back at what she's wearing now?

Ilovelblue · 13/02/2016 22:44

We're about to do a photo competition at work Rhubarb, either of when we were babies or at least younger with embarrassing outfits on. Sounds as if your photo would fit right in there!

Richtea19 · 13/02/2016 22:46

I can do smocking, my mum taught me and I made tops and dresses for my teddies and dolls.

Love that the fact you made a child cry pixie, when we had my friends little girl last night I made her cry when we where playing "frozen ludo" well it looked like frustration! I was winning, and perhaps I should of let her win... But I was! She didn't like that!!!

Cirque du Solei was good, although not as great as previous ones we've seen. But a lovely night few drinks and home to see what damage DS has done,'few friends around". BK might be messaging you!!!!

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 22:47

Here's a different but slightly related thought - does anyone think that music has changed less in the last thirty years than it did in the previous thirty years? - sounds like an essay title - discuss! I've seen an advert on TV a few times for Virgin Media that features the Chaka Khan song "I feel for you" which I know is over thirty years old now (1984) and it struck me that it doesn't sound really old in the same way that music from 1954 would have sounded like it came from another planet in comparison. I'm thinking of all those ballads and crooners which I don't dislike but I just feel that music is less different now by comparison.

It's getting late and I don't know how I've moved from MS in his smocks to that but there you go!

orphan · 13/02/2016 22:48

Haha I've intercepted woof's Matthias alert system and replaced that gorgeous smock/scything pic with a Les Dawson pic.

Am currently wondering if I can even be bothered to go and sample prime salami in Tuscany. Hopefully I'll be more enthused tomorrow.

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 22:54

rich sounds like you could run a session at the OG convention on smock making for your nearest and dearest and how to get your man to rock that smock and scything look!

pixieg1rl · 13/02/2016 22:54

Oh orph take one for the team. We all know you'll regret not handling all that prime Italian sausage when you gaze on MrPE teacher in the next staff meeting.

Rich, woe betide anyone who doesn't let a 6 year old win! My DS wails when anyone beats him at a board game.
