Going to see cirque du Solei tomorrow night with DH. We will drive to London and have a quick drink before its starts. I'm so knackered at the moment, I think we've just been doing too much and not enough time to sleep! My eye is still so puffy. One of my docs said I should see my GP, but i couldn't get an appointment!

Mini marathon trials for DS tomorrow, so another early start. Desperate to get into the garden and potter but still too cold for me!

kuiakaituhi · 13/02/2016 01:01

Interesting comments about British v American television programmes. WE have a dedicated British TV channel here in NZ. Very popular. As well, most of the highest rating spots are held by British drama. We seem to be a season behind you in most series from what I can pick up here from you guys.
Have just had Season 2 of Shetland - brilliant, have Cuffs at present - loving that and Unforgotten starts tomorrow. I see Molly's Nan has a big role in that. War and Peace and Dickensian on their way.
Do any of you ever watch Aussie or Kiwi drama? There have been lots of military themed programmes over the past eighteen months because of the centenary of the Gallipoli landings which are hugely important to both of our countries. You should be able to find them through Google.
NZ has a thriving film industry, largely because of Sir Peter Jackson. Not unusual to see famous British film people wandering around as if they are part of the furniture. Adrian Turner,Richard Armitage, Sir Ian McKellen all own houses here.
Americans make some of the most inane TV and films. I think our Kiwi sense of humour and our life stories are more closely aligned to Britain than to any other country/culture.

icemistOBE · 13/02/2016 07:29

Don't enjoy Cuffs too much as they aren't making a second series, I actually rather enjoyed it!

Didn't watch LM last night but have it recorded, might watch it later.

Morning all.
Feeling pretty rubbish since yesterday. The lurgy and an early rising 9 month old don't go together. Need to get some fresh air in a bit but for now am feeling sorry for myself! Freezing cold here too.
Skipped lucky man and went to bed early and read Rhu's latest chapter which is fab!
Hope the dentist wasn't too expensive or painful kelly Flowers
Have a good day all.

pixieg1rl · 13/02/2016 14:15

Well, failed to get in the garden today, everyone in the house is grumpy with each other. Off to a birthday party in a bit. Pretty dull day all round.

Ilovelblue · 13/02/2016 14:19

Would one of your doctors not treat your eye Richtea?

Hope you feel ok soon Maddie. When are you back at work?

Cold here too today but dry and sunny! Not seen much sun for weeks. Am halfway through digging out my compost heap.

Ilovelblue · 13/02/2016 14:21

Sorry to hear that pixie. Feel free to come and help me eith my compost heap......?

MaddieMoo82 · 13/02/2016 14:36

A week Tuesday ilove Shock. Feel pretty grim actually. Managed to get out for some fresh air and renew some library which I have had for an eternity and probably should have returned as will never finish them! MrMads is playing/doing something involving a football today so am off to abuse the hospitality of my parents in a mo, hopefully they can amuse DS and I can lie on the sofa.
Hope it stays dry so you can finish your compost heap ilove

KellyHb · 13/02/2016 14:59

Afternoon all.

Hope those who are feeling under the weather feel better soon.

pix hope all grumpiness goes away today. Perhaps you might have a drop of gin later?

I was really upset yesterday. I went to the dentist but they couldn't do a route canal work as my veneer wouldn't budge. I have to go back next week for them to break it and do route canal work then, (without boring everyone with details) if my root isn't in fact, I may need a denture (which I dont mind) if that doesn't work, they want me to get an implant which involves opening your guns and putting new bones in (a bone graft)!. Its major apparently and costs £3k!!! All for one tooth!! There's no way I can afford that esp as dentistry insurance was cancelled. See what happens but hopefully I won't need an implant. The idea fills me with horror esp the price!

So was grumpy yesterday and at my rubbish tooth. Sorry. I probably haven't cheered anyone up.

MaddieMoo82 · 13/02/2016 15:10

Blimey kelly I think you are justified in feeling upset about that. Fingers crossed it doesn't come to that Flowers bloody typical about the insurance! Angry

apsara03 · 13/02/2016 15:15

Kelly that sounds extortionate. I do wonder, a bit like with Vets, because many people have insurance they've started suggesting procedures to make money rather than because we really need them. Could you transfer back to NHS dentist? Max you pay for anything is £300. Obviously that is only for things that are necessary and I guess implants aren't regarded as necessary. Many of them do some private procedures as well so you can "upgrade"

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 15:21

Afternoon. Oh Kelly that sounds awful. What a painful, awkward nuisance for you. I hate teeth issues. Apparently, many years ago it was common for people to have all their (probably remaining) teeth taken out for their 21st birthday and have a full set of dentures. Now, I am not suggesting for one minute that that's a good idea, god forbid, but I suppose a long time ago it was seen as a reasonable alternative. Actually, my DH had some root canal trouble a while back and he was advised to go privately by his dentist and get it sorted for about £800. He had the tooth taken out instead! He's taken out dental cover now - only for himself mind you Confused. Hope it sorts itself out for you and doesn't cost you a new mortgage.

Thanks for the comments mads, I appreciate it.

Kuia I did see something about Gallipoli on TV a week or two ago - I think it was 'Deadline Gallipoli' about newspaper men trying to get the true story out. There was also something about nurses on last year which I was going to watch - think it won some awards - but they put it on one of the more obscure channels and I missed it. I do remember seeing an Australian mini series many years ago about the Anzacs which I quite enjoyed although I can't testify to how good it was as I was quite young at the time. Didn't Mel Gibson do a film a long time ago called 'Galipoli'? Sadly, I'm not into The Lord of the Rings (that's DH's territory) but I think you said Peter Jackson was remaking The Dam Busters? I'd watch that.

Confession time I went to see Dad's Army last Sunday - actually DS wanted to see it - he played a member of the Home Guard in a school play once -and he's not too familiar with the original. It was OK - gently humorous rather than laugh out loud funny although I did fall asleep for a bit. The actors did a good job of playing the roles. They weren't really impressions - the original still makes me laugh - but they conveyed the spirit of the original series well.

Cold damp wet afternoon here but you wouldn't get me near the garden any way! I really should do some grocery shopping but I think I'll leave it tomorrow. We'll just have to raid the freezer. Stay warm and dry everyone.

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 15:25

Funny aspara I was only thinking the same thing myself about how vet's costs are so high and it's a bit like dentists. My DH is with a NHS dentist but they said they couldn't do the work he needed done (too specialised) and if they were him they'd pay to go privately. Bit of a Hobson's choice there.

moojangles · 13/02/2016 15:31

kuia Anzac Girls was on over here not so long ago

pixieg1rl · 13/02/2016 15:49

My Gran had all her teeth removed in her early 20s and dentures for the rest of her life Rhu. Sometime before the war I think.

Richtea19 · 13/02/2016 16:24

kelly that's an outrageous amount of money to pay for dental care, fingers and everything crossed for a better and cheaper outcome. (My dad lost all his teeth in a motorbike accident in his 20's, he's had two sets of dentures since so I'm sure cheaper than dental costs over the years!!)

Pissing down all day today, took DS to mini marathon trials, be pulled a calf muscle and didn't get a great time so not sure about qualification. Been to osteopaths with little one as back been playing up since his car accident in Germany. ££££, just like dentists and vets!!!!

ilove if one of my docs treated me I would have to register as a temp patient. Can be bothered. It's actually going down so hopefully I won't need to go on Monday and also saves me from having an anti biotic.

What are everyone's plans for Valentine's!! Or are we all to tired and can't be bothered. !

Nickel45 · 13/02/2016 16:43

Having a quick break from my taxiing duties. Hope you get your tooth sorted without that crazy money Kelly, eek. Can you sign up for insurance now?

Nickel45 · 13/02/2016 16:47

By the way rich, try rubbing a gold ring on the sore bit on your eye, apparently the gold draws any infection out. Mad, but I've never known it not to work, and worth a try :) x

Richtea19 · 13/02/2016 17:58

Good tip nickel I've got a cheapo 9ct gold wedding band (DH on the dole when we got engaged and married!!!) but will certainly give it a go. Was considering an eye patch aka Gabrielle Wink. BTW that coffee looks good, although a large G&T is in order now!

Ilovelblue · 13/02/2016 18:12

Nickel and Richtea rubbing a gold ring on the affected area definitely works. I had a troublesome eye earlier in the week and I tried that very treatment. I've known about it for years but nobody else I know has ever heard of it.

KellyHb · 13/02/2016 18:13

Thanks for the thoughts ladies. I would just get the tooth out but its right next to my front tooth. Typical! I am with an NHS dentist but this is definitely classed as private work. But thinking about it. If I have to get the procedure done at a dental hospital, is that not free I wonder. Anyway DH is going to ring up the insurance company on Monday to get more info. The dentist said flippantly, 'I think you're going to have to start a dental fund', I thought 'yes, if I had your great wage a month'. Angry

How did the birthday party go pix? Ah by the way, heard some Sam Heughan news. I know its in Oxford and not Cambridge, but he's filming a film this year where he plays a university professor. I wouldn't mind being kept back for extra tuition by him! Grin

Yes, has anyone any lovely Valentines plans lined up? I think we're doing the usual having drinks in the house, watching TV and eating chocolates.

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 19:04

Cor I've never heard about gold rings being able to draw out infection. An old wives tale that actually works! I will definitely try that next time I've a problem after all what harm can it do.

I'm a bit meh about Valentines day. I did scout around the shops looking at cards yesterday but to be honest they are so lovey dovey I just couldn't give any of them to my DH with a straight face and he'd probably be highly suspicious. My mum and dad never gave each other Valentines cards they always said it was something for single people and I always liked the idea of secret admirers, distant yearning and unrequited love which Valentines are perfect for. What does Bathsheba Everdene do in FFTMC? That causes a bit of trouble doesn't it? (Images of Gabriel/Matthaus in his smock flooding through my mind - might need to dig out the DVD) OK so, I'm not mad on the cards but I could cope alright with the wine, chocolates, flowers side of it so I'll accept any of those on offer as a suitable compromise.

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2016 19:09

Oh, almost forgot! Anyone seen the Lucky Man thread on here? (Telly Addicts Board) I really think all you ladies who have seen it should go on there and rave about a certain actor. At the moment it only seems to have mentioned James Nesbitt and his hair. Perhaps you should enlighten them and see if you can lure them over here. They clearly need educating.

pixieg1rl · 13/02/2016 19:17

Oh rhu, and I'm coming over all unnecessary at the thought of Matthias in his smock. I might have to watch that this evening.

I got this valentines card for MrP, we don't normally bother with it tbh, but it made me giggle

Party was good thanks Kelly, I got roped into the entertainment and made a toddler cry by pretending to be a crocodile, oops

The dentistry bill sounds horrific, I thought the NHS chipped in a bit more for front teeth? I think you need to see a few dentists and see what your options are. Have you got a dentistry school near you? Sometimes you can get cheaper treatment if its done by students.

moojangles · 13/02/2016 19:38

kelly see a few, I swapped nhs dentists as one was cheaper, much cheaper!
Been ordered to my Mum's for a few days. We don't do Valentines chez mooj
