*Coco", I was thinking that. I have a portrait of DD as a small child and various bits of artwork she has done. I wouldn't agree to someone taking them away and substituting stuff to their taste.

It's my home and it should reflect my taste - I'd be very angry with a designer who didn't understand that.

MissTurnstiles · 03/03/2016 11:22

I just could not work with Sarah. Her whole attitude has been shirty all the way through. Her client wasn't difficult - Sarah went totally off-brief and she wasn't going to be browbeaten.

DoreenLethal · 03/03/2016 12:19

If Kelly Hoppen loved my designs I'd give up designing.

I absolutely cannot stand her - even on dragons' den she was just so one dimensional and dull. Dragon? She isn't even a guinea pig.

tothesideoftheirlives · 03/03/2016 12:39

Can someone explain Kelly Hoppen to me - I looked at her website and thought I'd opened a 1996 Next catalogue by mistake. Did she "invent" the beige, silver and grey look and has been riding the back of that for the last 25 years. Is her fortune based on large hammered metal vases with twigs in, or am I missing something?

IMHO any designer who has been doing the same thing for longer than 5 years, has zero creativity just good marketing.

If Kelly Hoppen liked my designs I would feel I'd failed as a designer

Coco Don't they replace the clients' own stuff? i think they do sometimes, perhaps you have to shout to let them know. We can ask Slummy. Grin It's nice having inside knowledge isn't it?

I KNEW they were encouraged to criticise half way through Grin Good for slummy even though orange walls are not my thing. One in the eye to the producers!

Davros · 03/03/2016 16:39

I agree with many PPs, I didn't like any of those rooms (but I enjoyed not liking them!)

SingSongSlummy · 03/03/2016 17:26

They did ask which bits we wanted to keep in the room - I still got all my photos etc and then obviously put back anything else I wanted after wards.

Cocolepew · 03/03/2016 17:36

I would have said everything Grin
I painted my kitchen orange years ago, I liked it. DH not so much Hmm

ppeatfruit · 03/03/2016 21:41

I painted OVER an orange kitchen years ago Coco. we're talking those early 'fitted' kitchen units with a pull down work top. Blush This was 1975. And I painted it white of course! it was in our first flat after we married, it was a pointer to how most of our married life would be from then on Grin.

Pigeonpost · 03/03/2016 23:40

Finally caught up with the final tonight, didn't like ANY of the rooms. And I just don't understand why Sarah basically ignored the brief. Very odd and am now suspicious of dodgy editing and set ups. I thought Lucy's dining room was almost as naff as her stuffed dog head room, just too bloody twee. Sarah's dining room was meh with the Hoppen Approved glitzy gold shelf. That room needed something to lift the off white and gold. I feel very underwhelmed by the final. Boo. Thread has been fun though even though I always watch on iPlayer as have no chance of getting the DC down in time to watch live! Same place next year and here's hoping we have another lovely shiny haired insider on the thread! Thanks Slummy, your insider info has been brilliant. I'll be buggered if Sarah isn't a MN'er though...

TheAlchemist101 · 04/03/2016 07:35

I loved all Sarah's rooms and felt she deserved to win. I felt she pushed the brief and took her client way beyond the conventional and I for one liked it. I felt I had stepped into a stately home furnished in 21st century style which had made the most of the rooms elegance and proportions with some added surprises. All of which is very difficult to achieve.

Lucy's room in contrast looked very conventional and I had seen it all before. I felt her client was easy to please compared to Sarah's client and he didn't seem that bothered as long as someone else decorated his flat for him.

absolutelynotfabulous · 04/03/2016 11:24

Well, I'm a massive fan of Kelly Hoppen. Am I the only one? I love the calmness and order of her schemes, and the rules are was to follow.

I agree that she is self-serving, arrogant, has published the same book under different titles and has a very strange, frozen face.

hollyisalovelyname · 05/03/2016 00:54

I was really disappointed with the final.
I thought Sarah's clients drawing room was beautiful befiore it eas made over. I absolutely understood her distress re Sarah's awful designs. The bedroom was appalling.
The orange room in the medieval house was terrible.
So too was the Rennie Mackintosh room.
And the wall hanging with the toy heads. Jesus wept Smile
I loved Sophie's tassel earrings. Does anyone know where they are from?

hollyisalovelyname · 05/03/2016 01:04

Slummy will you name change to stay on Mumsnet?

hollyisalovelyname · 05/03/2016 01:13

Oh Slummy I'm sorry I hadn't read the whole thread and didn't realize the orange room was yours.Blush

member · 05/03/2016 09:21

Earrings - Katie Weiner

hollyisalovelyname · 05/03/2016 09:38

Thank you.

hollyisalovelyname · 05/03/2016 09:43

How does one know these things?
Sadly, out of stock.

Davros · 05/03/2016 09:46

Sophie's dress sense reminds me a bit of Alex Pollizzi

OP posts:
hollyisalovelyname · 05/03/2016 13:26

Sophie has a great fashion style.

ppeatfruit · 05/03/2016 13:46

Apart from the very uncomfortable looking shoes she wore sometimes; I bet she just wore them for the filming of the walk of doom Grin and removed them straight after. Grin

hollyisalovelyname · 05/03/2016 19:10

The final was totally underwhelming I felt.
In fact the first series was better.
I bumped into Orla Kiely in the Ladies at a restaurant. She's nice.
I'm watching Ireland's house of the year on RTE tv. See RTE player app.
Amazingly beautiful interiors.

MissTurnstiles · 05/03/2016 19:31

I hadn't seen what Orla Kiely looks like before and was really struck by her resemblance to Oliver Peyton from Great British Menu. I wonder if they are related.

Ppeat she did indeed change into the shoes just before each bit of filming! Mind you, or cobbled street is a bastard for heels...
