No snow here, not even a frost

Richtea19 · 17/01/2016 09:18

We've got snow too!! Tricky getting DS to work at the kennels, well tricky for DH as I'm still in bed Grin

Ilovelblue · 17/01/2016 10:25

The snow froze overnight so it's horrid underfoot. Have lots of potting up to do so am going to do it in the kitchen for once and have a massive clean up at the end. The kitchen needs cleaning anyway!

BK28 · 17/01/2016 13:08

Morning All!
no snow here, just grey mist, really depressing - could really do with some blue sky, don't mind if it is cold!

Really impressed ilove with your bargain to freezer efforts, I'm afraid that I just put them straight into the freezer until I can think of something that I can do with them.

Rhub surely that gateau shouldn't be too much of a problem! Did anyone catch Miranda's Xmas show - her thoughts on one pudding and four spoons when out with friends - she'd rather four puddings and one spoon, so gateau no problem!!

Anyway I'm now sporting a huge blue plaster as I tried to remove my finger tips while fighting with some sweet potato - moment of madness as I thought I would make some soup with some bendy veg floating around the bottom of the fridge. It is really throbbing now!! Good excuse to catch up on here.
Was really hoping for a better 2016, but so far not sure how it is going to pan out.

Back on the decomp topic... have to agree that this thread has become the modern equivalent of the chat over the garden fence or meeting someone in the street for a chat. When you have worked at home and live in isolation it is really supportive to know that you are part of a community. Thanks for your friendship Girls! Smile Flowers Wine

Rhubarb01 · 17/01/2016 13:28

Ditto to no snow BK. I think we hail from a similar part of the world so I can concur that it is grey, damp underfoot and very, very dull! Bad luck about the fingers - those sorts of injuries are so painful! As for the chocolate log - it was/is definitely not a problem!

Operation Cooking is nearly over - last thing to go in the oven in about half an hour. As for the pasties - hmm! Let's put it this way - if this was one of the challenges on GBBO and I had been told to make two dozen identical pasties in size, appearance and colour - I think Paul Hollywood would have been rendered speechless, Mary would have struggled for something kind to say and Mel and Sue would be desperately trying to hide the laughter behind tight-lipped smirks. I am more of a cake baker to be honest - however, despite the fact they looked like pastry lumps from which the contents have escaped, DD sampled one and said it was nice - so if you shut your eyes it might not be too bad - shoved them in the freezer and will try not to forget they are there.

BK28 · 17/01/2016 13:42

Oh rhub the image of those pasties just made me smile... but hats off to you I don't even attempt pastry -really hot hands, it all gloops to my fingers, it is similar to my affect on wool when attempting knitting - not a good image, saying that my use of ready made can be just as disastrous! Personally I think most of my baking efforts should be sampled with either low or no lighting!!

Ilovelblue · 17/01/2016 14:07

BK what a nice thing to say about this thread - the chat over the garden fence. Mind you, when I was out in the garden this morning (rescuing some small pots which had blown away in the wind), I saw my elderly neighbour who had been ill a couple of weeks ago. I had to laugh to myself - you could tell he is now better! After his wife died 8 years ago, he "took up" with his wife's sister about 6 months down the line and let's just say he may be 79 next but thinks like a teenage boy. He's told me a few things and I just hold my hands up and say "I don't want to know". Anyway, he told me this morning that his partner/sister in law/woman friend (what is the right word?) looked "stunning" yesterday... she's 81.

I am addicted to bargain hunting in Tesco, I have to confess. It is now at the point that I know exactly by how much packs of meat etc are reduced at lunchtime. The best time to go I understand is about 7pm but as I work near there but live a few miles away, I can only do it at lunchtime.

MaddieMoo82 · 17/01/2016 14:52

Afternoon all. Going to have a read back in a mo but hope everyone's weekends are going well. No snow here, back to the usual mild rainy weather!
Has been a rubbish weekend really. MrMads has fallen quite spectacularly off of his helpful and keen New Years resolution wagon and is back to being a rather large tit Angry. Sorry to vent haven't got anyone else to moan to at the mo. Baby just laughs and dog has fallen asleep so prob bored of it, but feels better even just to vent in writing.
One nice thing is DS has learnt to say mumma and it sounds lovely and he can't say dada yet no matter how much MrMads tries with him which is making me very smug.
Anyway off to have a read back...

Ilovelblue · 17/01/2016 15:03

Maddie that literally made me laugh out loud. The cat was on my knee and I disturbed his sleep! Glad you got your own back with DS saying mumma not dada! I'd feel smug too.

BK28 · 17/01/2016 15:08

Enjoy the moment Mads as there will come a moment - early teens where Mum isn't needed, don't panic it does change again once they leave home - Skype calls from Tesco with which of these do I buy and how do I cook this!!

This is also the perfect venting place, don't be sorry!! Smile

pixieg1rl · 17/01/2016 15:20

Aww, it's lovely when they start to say mama mads. Sorry to hear MrMads is being a cock though.

MrP is about to head off for the week (well he 'helpfully' comes home a couple of nights, too late to feed, bathe and put DS to bed). DS is coming down with a cold so is having a day in his pyjamas with occasional doses of calpol and he might need to stay off school tomorrow.

Laughing at your horny neighbour ilove, I knew a guy who was a nurse on a geriatric ward and he reckoned that the sex drive was the last thing to go. He was no oil painting but he was forever being propositioned by old ladies.

Thanks for the reminder about Fargo orph, I loved the first series but we missed the second. I'll have a look to see if I can catch it somewhere. I've been recording Deutschland 83 which I've heard good things about.

Good on you rhu glad to hear your pasties were tastier than they looked Grin

Rhubarb01 · 17/01/2016 15:47

Mads I think you must have a very bright DS. I thought all babies said Dada first because it is easier to say than Mumma - mine did. Yours obvously likes a challenge!

I've been watching Deutschland 83 Pixie. I spent time in Germany during the eighties including a trip to East Berlin in 1985 so it makes me a feel a little nostalgic - not for the uniform obsessed, drab and unsmiling existence of the East - horrible place - but for my younger days in the West! Actually the music reminds me of time there. East Berlin was the showpiece of East Germany in those days but I remember going to the premier department store clutching the compulsory 25 East German marks that you had to exchange at a rate of 1:1 and were not allowed to take back out of the country again. We just wandered around wondering what on earth to buy with it - it was all such poor quality and old fashioned. The other memory is vendor stands selling nothing but pink or white ice cream everywhere. I had a great time in the West, mind you!

MaddieMoo82 · 17/01/2016 16:04

rhu sounds like mamma but maybe I'm just willing it to be that! Could just be random gurgles!! Definately hasn't said/gurgled dada though! Thanks bk when he's older I'll probably be moaning about it!

Have Deutschland 83 on the planner.... Might get round to watching it at some point this year!! Want to start Shetland this week so don't get too behind.

Yep ilove I think 79 going on 19 by the sounds of it! My mum is semi-retired but volunteers at the hospital getting papers etc from the shop for patients of the elderly ward and she says most of the old guys are very flirty and always want a kiss when she leaves... Some going for the lips! Shock

awww pix hope DS feels better Sad

Rhubarb01 · 17/01/2016 17:57

Just realised I've got a TV watching dilemma. I've been watching Endeavour followed by Deutschland 83 on Plus 1 and then W&P on Mondays but now Call the Midwife has raised it's head as well - dilemma. Think I might have to watch Sundays on Monday and do catch up on Monday. I'm also one episode behind Dickensian. I think it was Orph who mentioned the well-toned buttocks of Mr Compeyson raising himself from his bath - almost racy before 9pm - shame he's such an utter cad!! I never can see any of these scenes without thinking of all of you!! We haven't got a recorder which is probably a good thing because it forces me to get on and watch stuff on catch up. I suppose I should be glad there's some choice at last - but I wish OG was one of them Sad

Ilovelblue · 17/01/2016 20:17

I'm watching Call the Midwife now Rhubarb. I nearly always cry at the end of each episode. It's supposed to be 1961 - only a year before I was born!

Thankfully most of the snow has gone now but it wasn't very easy when I was out for a walk this afternoon as it was slushy in some parts and still icy in others.

Nickel45 · 17/01/2016 23:49

Just got back from a fab night out with a few good friends, taking about sex, men, and all the rest! Was thinking it was like being on here!!!! Off to drink a lot of water and crash. Completely forgot about call the ,I wife, was it good? Will have to watch on catch up! Night all :)

orphan · 18/01/2016 07:37

Morning! Really don't feel like going to work today Much rather spend the morning catching up on W&P in bed.Sad

richtea did you make it to see the light festival? We went but it was bloody cold, particularly at windy Canary Wharf. The crowds round the Kings Cross installations led my ds to wonder if The Bieber was posing with light bulbs round his nether regions. I really liked the animated projections on the Granary building though ( a circus Big Top) and the diver at the KX pond club.

I'm eating my breakfast in bed orphan and cannot get motivated into getting ready for work. Is this really the start of the third week of the New Year?

MaddieMoo82 · 18/01/2016 08:27

Morning all.
Ooh orphan those pictures are fab. Love the circus one.
Rain, rain and more rain here Sad
Have a good day everyone Smile

MaddieMoo82 · 18/01/2016 08:30

How's your DS pixie?

MaddieMoo82 · 18/01/2016 08:53

Oh and today is apparently blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year Sad.

pixieg1rl · 18/01/2016 09:30

He's gone to school this morning mads, I'm not convinced he'll be staying but he really wanted to go and the thermometer didn't say he had a temperature. He also slept for 12 hours, which he never does.

I can echo the don't want to go to work feelings, it's seems the work network agrees with me because I can't get onto the system. On my 7th try now...

MaddieMoo82 · 18/01/2016 10:55

Glad he is a bit better pixie fingers crossed he can stay.
Trying to sort diary and book annual at work for days I don't have childcare. Already complicated and I'm not back yet!! Confused

Ilovelblue · 18/01/2016 12:13
