orphan having just read your post DH and I were thinking of going up to London tonight to see the light festival. St James and Piccadilly was my idea and then a stop off at the wine bar at Fortnums!

orphan · 16/01/2016 09:37

Ha richtea maybe ditch the lights and focus on the wine bar! Actually, the light installations don't look quite as good as the Durham ones have been, but then there isn't the cathedral to use.

Did you see the Sultan's Elephant several years ago in London? I think that still stands as one of the most fantastic things I've seen. At the risk of sounding completely pretentious, I actually cried at the wonderfulness of it!

orphan · 16/01/2016 09:41

However I do cry at the drop of a hat. I was sobbing silently when I went to see the Nutcracker ballet this Christmas, much to the mortification of my dd. It was the combination of a live orchestra, the beautiful score, the amazing dancers and the price of the tickets.

Rhubarb01 · 16/01/2016 10:49

Morning all. Haven't started cooking yet. Slight hiccup as the freezer I intend to use is in the garage and the garage door is broken. DH says he can open the door if he does it carefully but I really need to check on space before I go mad producing meals for the fifty thousand. I happen to know however that there is a large fresh cream chocolate Christmas roulade frozen in there which will definitely have to come out to make space (serves 10) what a pity!

I must agree that this thread became so much more than OG alone quite a long time ago. Once we'd got into Christmas and Stags, fireside wrestling and woof and Orph's Poldark sagas we were off at a tangent! I'm surprised MN hasn't chucked us off of here.

Anyone watching Jericho or Mr Selfridge (guilty pleasure because it is terrible but I love the costumes) ? I've also been watching the Miss Fisher murder mysteries on Netflix - Sunday afternoon lazy viewing - which is formulaic and sort of strange being a period drama set in Australia (Miriam Margolies is in it sometimes -anyone see her on Graham Norton last night? Hilarious!) but she does wear some lovely clothes. I'm getting quite costume obsessed for some reason. I just keep noticing all the lovely embroidery and details.

Ilove your series of disasters last night sounds like a regular day in my house. I swear that it's never possible to do one job without creating two or three others. OK I'm delaying and have to do battle with the garage door and buy and prepare my provisions. Possibly back later if not trapped in the garage.

orphan · 16/01/2016 12:21

rhubarb having had access to the scripts for the next series of Poldark I'd hate to post any spoilers, but I'll just say that poor Darkie is confined to stables for eps 1-63 with a recurring case of equine trenchfoot, doubly tortured by hearing the orgasmic cries of Poldark as he untiringly and relentlessly samples Prudey's quivering syllabubs. And kelly you'll be relieved to hear that countless pasties were smashed too.

cjwoofwoof · 16/01/2016 13:46

Actually orph it wasn't equine trench foot that laid me -down-- up, it was a full on hair dyeing transformation session that occupied episodes 1-63, leaving me my natural grey mareish self, leading to that remarkable kuia pic of me with Manu's loins firmly straddling my muffin top. Ah yes, only Manu could depose Poldark when it comes to riding me senseless, that's for sure, AND he doesn't care I'm grey all over...

kuia you're the nuts, those pics have made my weekend, thanks my little cobber (oops think that might be Australian not Kiwi)

Ilovelblue · 16/01/2016 14:31

It's snowing here. Quite big flakes too!

moojangles · 16/01/2016 15:41

kuia thank you for that start to my day!
Glad I' m not alone in feeling slightly meh about things at the mo. Been wishing we were back in quarters, lovely 2 nights away At NY & returned to small but growing damp patch on ceiling... all mended but the lump of plaster board screwed in to cover the hole is doing my head in.
rhub I have been known to watch Miss Fisher. Was watching Dickensian but DH says I have to wait for him to finish... might sneak onto inlayer.
Have a kindle voucher to spend-any books worth reading, or buying with the intention of reading round ff?
Outlander box set, here I come!

pixieg1rl · 16/01/2016 15:46

Been out for an improving countryside walk as MrP is in a massive grump with me. Apparently I'm supposed to read his mind now as well as organise his life, wash his clothes and feed him.

moojangles · 16/01/2016 15:50

Very remiss of you to forget that pix

cjwoofwoof · 16/01/2016 15:55

Ah yes pix DHs do tend to be complete bellends at times. It's our wedding anniversary today and I've just bought my own flowers, but as DH has already kindly pointed out, I should think myself lucky he remembered a card this year from a petrol station so I do feel quite blessed to have him. So blessed in fact that I've just enlarged if that's at all possible kuias Manu pic astride his grey mare and stuck it in DHs pant drawer for him to find in the morning and feel justifiably and rightly inadequate Grin

pixieg1rl · 16/01/2016 16:00

He's lucky you can squeeze him in to have you woof.

cjwoofwoof · 16/01/2016 16:22

As I keep reminding him, pix , as I keep reminding him Wink

Ilovelblue · 16/01/2016 16:55

Hope Mr P is aware of his faux pas pixie. He and Mr Woof are definitely in the doghouse.

Been really, really cold here today and I'm not one who normally bothers about low temperatures. Wearing my very best silk and cashmere Laura Ashley tunic..... brilliant bargain from my local charity shop for £3! Don't think they knew how expensive it would have been in the shop!

Decided to bite the bullet and go for a new bathroom. Gulp! More expensive than I was planning on but I guess it did need doing and it should last a good few years! Paid a deposit this morning.

The snow has been sticking. Makes a change from the rain!!

Did the man sort out your porch Richtea?

Onlygirljen · 16/01/2016 17:36

LOADS of snow here, hasn't stopped falling all day! Kids are delighted, me less so.

Is it wine o'clock yet?? I'm making a massive curry and am feeling the urge to start drinking Smile

pixieg1rl · 16/01/2016 17:38

I'm eyeing up the gin right now Jen. Let's go for it!

Onlygirljen · 16/01/2016 17:38

Yessss, pouring now! Grin

Rhubarb01 · 16/01/2016 17:42

Definitely Wine o'clock time jen and pixie I feel the need to wind up my very own home-grown Saffy! Its a crafty vodka and tonic here.

pixieg1rl · 16/01/2016 17:46

Cheers! Wine

pixieg1rl · 16/01/2016 17:46

How's the day of cooking gone rhu?

Rhubarb01 · 16/01/2016 18:02

Have to confess pixie it's been a little delayed. I'm planning on putting in some beef to cook overnight in the slow cooker and might risk making some - wait for it - pasties this evening. DD has expressed a wish for home-made pasties - cheese and onion and Mediterranean veg sort of thing - mmh here's keeping the fingers crossed they don't end up getting smashed - absolutely no euphemism there! Tomorrow I'm planing to cook a second round of beef in the slow cooker and a couple of chicken recipes. The garage incident and the need to throw out all manner of strange looking items lurking in the freezer that could have been there a fair few years mean I'm only really starting now - who was it who suggested I should keep off the cooking sherry?

icemistOBE · 16/01/2016 18:45

Long day. Hubby asleep on couch so me and boys having our curry. I've poured myself a generous peach schnapps and lemonade Grin

Richtea19 · 16/01/2016 19:05

Prosecco is flowing, heating full blast and dinner cooked by DH (clearing up be me!)

Man looked at porch and back next week, new guttering and needs paining but that will be in the summer.

No snow , but perhaps a flutter tonight.

Ilovelblue · 16/01/2016 19:47

I'm on the vinho verde which is very pleasant and salmon (another of my reduced bargains from Tesco).

Snow had turned to sleet but is proper snow again and is about an inch thick.

Can't match you Rhubarb on the cooking front today unless extra portions of cheesy mash and carrot and lentil soup count?

Nickel45 · 17/01/2016 08:40

We've got snow :)
Kids are excited. I'm wondering why I didn't do my big supermarkets shop yesterday! Have a good day everyone.
