Corrie thread - we haven't even got a dog storyline to keep us going now

A new thread as we head towards the worst part of every soap year - Christmas.

Dreading the return of Simon.

Dreading more of the arr Gareh & Alya "plot".

When did the brewery close and become a convenient empty garage?

Make yourself at home and get ready for more totally hopeless acting - it has to improve soon, surely?

Does anyone remember when Mary was a bit in love with Norris, they went away to a cottage and she stole his glasses and shoelaces.

absolutelynotfabulous · 09/01/2016 22:04

That Mary thing was weird! She was kind of obsessed with Norris, wasn't she?

Rachel0Greep · 09/01/2016 22:42

Not a fan of Mary, but did think the scenes in that place last night, were funny. Brendan is an absolute drip.

theliverpoolone · 09/01/2016 23:03

I found it hard seeing Roy and Cathy saying they loved each other - I can still only see him with Hayley Sad. I'd have preferred it if they'd just made them 'good friends' (note to self - it's not real Grin)

Rachel0Greep · 09/01/2016 23:21

Same here. Too rushed for my liking.
Even worse, to me, was having Ken getting involved with the deplorable Nessa. Seemed so disrespectful to the memories of Deirdre/ Anne. Sad

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 10/01/2016 00:10

I thought Nessa's face when he told her he still loved Dierdre was supwrb acting though. As were all of Mary's scenes. That Brendan is not worthy.

I remrmver the Norris thing now. He convinced himself she was a murderer.

ajandjjmum · 10/01/2016 00:41

Isn't Nessa Mr. Selfridge's secretary in.......'Mr. Selfridge'?

Woodhill · 10/01/2016 09:28

Yes I thought the same about secretary in Mr S.

southeastdweller · 10/01/2016 14:07

The Brendan and Mary story is an example of Corrie at it's best because as well as the humour there's the underlying poignancy of the naive and inexperienced Mary being taken for a ride by someone clearly only after one thing.

eddiemairswife · 10/01/2016 14:38

Is Mary supposed to be a virgin?

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 10/01/2016 17:50

I don't think so.
Just unlucky in love.

desperatehousewife21 · 10/01/2016 21:09

Oh I thought she was meant to be a virgin too. Always lived with her mother and never found 'the one'

Rachel0Greep · 10/01/2016 23:13

I noticed lately that Anna touches her hair a lot, while preparing food.
That cafe looks very dreary. Much as I like Roy, I don't think I would go in there.

ProfYaffle · 11/01/2016 15:03

Mary's had a dark and interesting past, every now and then she comes out with a really unexpected anecdote. She said something the other week about selling something or other on a beach somewhere hot and exotic I think. Can't remember the details though.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 11/01/2016 16:10

Yes. I remember the beach.
And she sometimes mentions things like "a chap" or an "amour" so I assumed she had had bfs just no marriages.

Otherwise surely she would have dithered a little longer with the Brendan situation.

eddiemairswife · 11/01/2016 18:09

On the other hand Mary seems to be a bit of a fantasist; she told Norris her mother had died when she had gone into a home, and she appears to over-dramatise things in order to make an impression.

Woodhill · 11/01/2016 21:14

How does Tracey have any money to spend, she is meant to be broke.

why would Brendan lose a sock, bit daft

Simpering Nick over Carla, has he no pride.

southeastdweller · 11/01/2016 21:45

I don't really 'believe' much of what Mary says - I think her stories are her way of escaping from mundane life. Brendan is the first partner we've seen her with, iirc.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 11/01/2016 21:49

Definitelt first partner since she arrived but she had quite a lot of life before that.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 11/01/2016 21:53

Unless she launches into MadonnaGrin

Rachel0Greep · 12/01/2016 09:02

I thought the scenes with Tyrone last night, in the hospital, at the machine, were beyond cringey! There is just no credibility in the way that the story around the child's illness is being portrayed. Fiz makes me cringe, at the best of times, and Tyrone is over-acting, IMO.

I know it's the script, but it's awful, and I don't feel in any way drawn into the story.

purplehazed · 12/01/2016 11:09

I agree Rachel Fizz makes me cringe too, those awful expressions she pulls, and Tyrone really can't act at all. It amazes me why they've given such a strong storyline to two of the worst actors. Are they seeing something the rest of us can't. any scene with them in I have to mute and look away.

MissBattleaxe · 12/01/2016 11:22

I agree with what a previous poster said about how they could have made the cancer storyline more involving. They could have used a younger member of the cast that we actually engage with. Hope has been a background face so the viewers don't really "know" her.

One of the Alahan twins or Simon or Amy would have engaged viewers

What would have made it interesting is if it was Ruby, and Tyrone would have had to let Kirsty know. Now that would have been a story!

I apologise if it sounds insensitive discussing child storylines such as this, but they could have made this story line useful or helpful, instead of it falling flat.

eddiemairswife · 12/01/2016 12:38

Where is poor little Ruby while Tyrone and Fizz are spending hours at the hospital? Has she gone to Peru with Emily?

MissBattleaxe · 12/01/2016 12:48

Fizz talks to Hope as if she is a puppy.
