Corrie thread - we haven't even got a dog storyline to keep us going now

A new thread as we head towards the worst part of every soap year - Christmas.

Dreading the return of Simon.

Dreading more of the arr Gareh & Alya "plot".

When did the brewery close and become a convenient empty garage?

Make yourself at home and get ready for more totally hopeless acting - it has to improve soon, surely?

That man has a lot of demons, I think it's fair to say, SweetestThing.

What about the actor who plays Dev? There's something very 'off' about the Mary story and his peripheral floating about.

SweetestThing · 03/01/2016 17:03

Alcohol is a horrible demon to have following you around.

Poor Mary. I wish she'd find someone who likes her and is available!

Just been watching some YouTube clips of Vera's death and Hilda coming home with Stan's parcel from hospital and quietly sobbing over his glasses. Subtle, classic, moving - qualities missing so much from today's programme.

doitanyways · 03/01/2016 20:16

I'd love to see Beth and Kirk have a baby. That has all sorts of potential for comedy gold - touching and funny at the same time. I do really like craig's character. It's nice to see such a gentle teenage boy.

cleanmachine · 03/01/2016 20:34

Yes fizz and Tyrone do not have the acting prowess to carry off meaty plots. They can only do gormless and twattiness. Even during the dom violence plot they were completely out acted by kirsty. The writers should stick to them being fillers.

I really miss Steve. The nazir mum has grown on me a little but the rest are awful. And I hate the new connors.

Woodhill · 03/01/2016 21:20

where was little Jack over Christmas at the Webster dinner at Sally's?

doitanyways · 03/01/2016 21:29

Shock that's so true! I forgot about jack!

It would be more realistic at this stage if Molly's parents had him.

He should be in school now surely?

thenightsky · 03/01/2016 21:50

I keep shouting at the telly regularly... 'what about Jack, where is he?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 03/01/2016 22:34

I expect the writers just forgot he existed, just like they forgot about Kevin's child who died.

You would think they would have full character bios and a family tree type thing in the writers' room.

There's so much they never mention which would come up all the time in real life - Todd never mentions that he always thought Nick was gay and kissed him. Norris would never have become so friendly with Mary, but people would always talk about the time a raving nutcase kept him hostage.

Oh yeah. I'd completely forgotten Marys little turn being Kathy bates from Misery. That was a really odd little storyline. I do like Mary.

MissBattleaxe · 03/01/2016 23:06

Writers in soaps are terrible at writing about babies. They love a dramatic birth. e g waters break and baby is born somewhere inconvenient like the pub, twenty minutes later. Then once the baby is born it is barely seen again and everyone goes back to work and resumes their social life as if nothing happened.

elvisthehamster · 04/01/2016 02:03

Was also wierd in the xmas day episode when Gail was saying Nick would be a great dad and Carla and a great mum and everyone laughed and joked...they have both lost babies this year-seemed a bit insensitive even for Gail!

Woodhill · 04/01/2016 09:09

plus Emily. I know she referred to having inoculations but these have to be done in plenty of time as dd visited South America. over Christmas come on.

plus no mention of travel insurance which would be difficult to get at Emily's age I would have thought.

wish they would try to make it slightly more realistic

Rachel0Greep · 04/01/2016 10:21

I had the same thought about inoculations, I remember someone I worked with, getting those, well in advance of travel. I've never been anywhere that required them - I need to take a leaf out of Emily's book Grin - but I do remember that my workmate didn't get them one day, and head off the next!
It looked very much like an add-on, last minute thought by the scriptwriters.

They could have had her visiting Mavis, and then return, or not, depending on what the actress wanted / felt able for.
I did like her little speech about always having felt at home on the Street, I thought that was heartfelt, and I would say any tears shed in that scene were quite real.
Fair play to Eileen Derbyshire, if it is retirement, (and at the age of 84, she more than deserves to take it a bit easier), I wish her well.

purplehazed · 04/01/2016 10:30

Does anyone else think that it's time for Emily to go. She's had a good long run and tbh she can't act very well. Always the same two expressions, saintly or puzzled.

LineyReborn · 04/01/2016 10:30

I echo that. I'll miss Emily, especially the Emily & Norris scenes.

I think the inoculation line was added after someone in Corrieland read this thread. It happens in EE too. A poster or two will say, isn't it ridiculous how that baby has disappeared? And the next week there's a clunky piece of expositional dialogue thrown in about them loving the new nursery. I expect something similar shortly to explain the mysterious whereabouts of young Jack.

LineyReborn · 04/01/2016 10:31

I'm echoing wishing her well!

purplehazed · 04/01/2016 10:32

Oh I didn't realise, she might be retiring, but I've never rated her as an actress. I wish her well in her retirement if she is.

LineyReborn · 04/01/2016 19:42

I agree she's no Dame Maggie Smith.

Anyway, here we are again, the boring Connors.

Woodhill · 04/01/2016 20:01

and what is the point of Sawphie bumbling around in the garage. I think Dev's had more going for it than the freezing garage.

why has Kathy suddenly gone in the desk, she could have done it months ago, so predictable

Housewife2010 · 04/01/2016 20:58

How long did Carla's parents affair go on for? There's over 15 years between her and Kate and Johnny's wife found out when Kate was small.

purplehazed · 04/01/2016 22:07

Yes what on earth has Sawphie got to do in the garage. It's ridiculous, , but that's nothing new.

LineyReborn · 04/01/2016 22:11

Sawphie sits in the garage in her big cawt saying 'Daaaaaad' and that's it really. Ker-ching.

Rachel0Greep · 04/01/2016 22:33

Sawphie sits in the garage in her big cawt saying 'Daaaaaad' and that's it really.

No, wait... She stands out on the street every now and then with a clipboard Wink. Such nonsense. In Dev's, all she seemed to do was sit with her head hanging to one side, as if her hair was too heavy, or something.

LineyReborn · 04/01/2016 22:42

as if her hair was too heavy

PinkPjamas · 04/01/2016 22:59

I'm not impressed with the lesbians dungarees stereotyping!

I had LOADS of corrie to catch up on and was quite looking forward to a marathon itvplayer session as soon as I got the chance. I've drifted over most of it. So boring!
