Corrie thread - we haven't even got a dog storyline to keep us going now

A new thread as we head towards the worst part of every soap year - Christmas.

Dreading the return of Simon.

Dreading more of the arr Gareh & Alya "plot".

When did the brewery close and become a convenient empty garage?

Make yourself at home and get ready for more totally hopeless acting - it has to improve soon, surely?

When will Ken and Audreh get it on? This Nessa is so not his type. I do like Cathy though, Melanie Hill is a great actress. And her ex is Sean Bean. And she was in Stardust. I've liked her ever since she was Aveline in Bread.

SymphonyofShadows · 02/01/2016 11:35

I think that storyline is going to be resolved sooner rather than later [taps nez]

absolutelynotfabulous · 02/01/2016 11:38

Yy to Norris. That's Corrie done well.

Nessa is awful-not realistic at all. Cathy is good though-a sensitive character well-portrayed by a capable and experienced actress.

I like the Carla actress but I don't get the way Carla lurches from competent, driven businesswoman through a seemingly endless range of personality characteristics. It's good telly, but not realistic.

Wasn't Carla involved in a murder storyline once?

Rachel0Greep · 02/01/2016 11:58

I agree re Nessa, they are really making her character obnoxious.

Yy re Cathy. Corrie needs to bring in more of the same, i.e. capable experienced actors/actresses, and get rid of some of the one-dimensional ones.

Carla is one of my favourites, I do wish they would give her better storylines, and I am constantly amazed by how good she looks, despite all that she supposedly drinks.

SymphonyofShadows · 02/01/2016 12:00

Carla's voice grates on me though, she wasn't so nasally on Dream Team. She's from Leicester though, so I suppose it's her Manchester accent

AnguaResurgam · 02/01/2016 12:01

Well, Carla's broken the first rule of 'no-one must know' by immediately telling Michelle who can never keep anything secret. I sighed when that happened.

MissBattleaxe · 02/01/2016 15:42

Yes if you want your secrets kept always tell a temperamental local barmaid.

absolutelynotfabulous · 02/01/2016 16:50

Yes, Carla always looks fab, no matter what.

mollie123 · 02/01/2016 17:03

suspect this unlikely Carla storyline is to facilitate the exit line (does she not leave for good this year) which is bound to be unbelieveable as are most of their exits - hope Tracy does not do the deed on her if she finds out about Robert Smile

EachandEveryone · 02/01/2016 17:50

I didn't think she was going for good?

eddiemairswife · 02/01/2016 17:56

I think she wants the possibility of a return, so won't be killed off.

theliverpoolone · 02/01/2016 21:36

I really hope Robert doesn't get back with Tracey. After an iffy start, he's grown on me and has a conscience and a kind side, so unlikely he'd have anything to do with Tracey, but the scriptwriters seem to give people characteristics that have no connection with who they pair them up with Confused. And the pairing of Eileen and Les Dennis surely needs to end soon - she was more compatible with the fireman than him! Him and Gail were actually far more believable, and that's saying something!

eddiemairswife · 02/01/2016 22:16

Norris alone was back to Corrie at its best, where even an irritating character can show their vulnerability. We need more of this rather than the endless bedhopping that makes up a large part of the stories.

Rachel0Greep · 02/01/2016 23:03

Yes, I figure the nonsense storyline of Johnny etc, is a prelude to Carla's departure. The rubbish of Aidan having a bet with the gormless Kate about sleeping with Eva, and the two of them settling the bet at the bar, oh please, give me strength.

I love to see the older characters, Rita, Emily, Norris, Ken and Audrey. I think they were sidelined for far too long. Norris eating alone and looking at the t.v. I agree, is like Corrie of old. We, the viewers, don't need everything shoved in our faces. There CAN be subtle scenes, ones that stir our emotions and from which we can draw our own conclusions.

I hope that when Kate Oates takes over, she can rescue Corrie, and restore it, to some degree, to the once great soap, that it was.

Fantasyland · 03/01/2016 00:00

Is there any storylines we would like to see?

Seeyounearertime · 03/01/2016 09:29

I'd like to see the story lines they have but in proper detail.
Right now they've got a child cancer story, but all we see is Fizz whispering, Ty getting into debt. Where's the actual emotion? The drama? The two of them sat at the table with test result in one hand debt letters in the other and them not knowing how to get through it? It'd be a bit more real. Iyswim?

They also have a hoarder, who apparently is over it now after years of mental anguish... Good old magic Roy fixed that right quick Confused
Someone fining out their real dad after 40 years of believing someone else was, do we get real emotion, real drama, or behaviours that match real life? Nope, we get Carla hopping into bed with a bloke who just happens to work for her boyfriend. Confused right OH.
Not to mention Kylie the killer and the body under the granny flat... Surely Kylie and sarah would be feeling intense guilt, going out of their minds? But no, couple friendly chats with a vicar and all is well. I'd imagine trying to hide a murer would, in reality, drive you beyond bonkers. Etc

It all seems the writers have been removed from real life and have no clue how people would really behave and act.

southeastdweller · 03/01/2016 12:33

The writing for Nessa is all over the place, she doesn't seem at all a recognisable person and completely wrong for Ken.

I agree the Norris scene was well-done and reminded me of a scene last year when Eileen, after falling out with Todd, sat alone at home and touched a picture of Todd and Jason taken years before during happier times. As Rachel says, 'There CAN be subtle scenes, ones that stir our emotions and from which we can draw our own conclusions'.

I'm hoping that Kate Oates doesn't write out Cathy, a credible character played by one of the best actors in the show, because of David Neilson taking a break soon.

SymphonyofShadows · 03/01/2016 13:45

As PP have said, Jenny McAlpine isn't a strong enough actor to carry the Hope story. It's making people ffwd through it.

I think they messed up by not putting Robert with Leanne, the Carla thing was nonsense.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming stuff with Nessa, I hope they don't mess it up.

LineyReborn · 03/01/2016 14:15

Yy to the description of 'the gormless Kate' - bloody awful acting and lines/plot.

I wish the extra Connors and Fizz and Tyrone and bloody Luke would just disappear.

AnguaResurgam · 03/01/2016 14:18

I would like to see a suspension of all the sensational story lines. There have been far to many in the last year or so and all have fizzled out.

Instead, back to proper character-driven storylines.

Here are some ideas:

a) Kev and Anna not getting together, but having a series of near misses, so that in 10 years time they can be telling each other that they were the one that got away.
b) Audrey and Ken not getting together, but having a slightly sentimental enduring friendship. Ken being pushed too far by Nessa and actually being single for a while. Nessa leaving the show. Possible redevelopment of Alex.
c) resolution of Callum storyline, don't really care how (could even be the OTT twaddle of recent months, just get rid).
d) Mary to fall for The Script but not for much longer, then gloriously kick his sorry ass out. Rita continues a return to form as strong and wise.
e) Chesney and Sinead to move away (sorry Ches, it used to be a great character but just not working now).
f) Beth to have a baby, introduce the adventures of Kirky as a father (possibly with Ossie joining that household)
g) all extraneous Connors to leave. Carla to return only if there will be storylines that do not involve the partner carousel that she and Leanne have had inflicted on them for a while and which now seems to involve Tracey too.
h) Dev to start a normal relationship with a new character - I remember how much better the character was when with Maya, so starts off just ordinary (work out if they are to have drama later on)
i) Spider and Emily to return, possibly with Spider nursing her through a lengthy final illness, maybe a dementia storyline? With vicar wrestling adult social services on their behalf.
j) Alya to leave. More stories on the events of the community centre, the Nazir parents pulling in different directions: mother ever more eccentrically involved in the community, the father withdrawing further into depression.
k) a visit from Rosie Webster

Fantasyland · 03/01/2016 14:47

Id love to see maybe a couple or family move in who doesn't straight away magically get a job at the factory and or have an affair with someone in days. This isn't realistic but happens all the time with newcomers.

I'd like them to keep to themselves and not 'fit in' with everyone else.

I don't mean like a 'chav' family but maybe a family or couple who don't want to chit chat with the neighbours and maybe going through something.

Maybe a couple where someone has a mental health problem that prevents them from interacting. The story could focus on their life on the street separate to the 'locals'

In real life not every person/ family fits in and socialises in the local area for whatever reason and a new family living on the street but separate glimpses of their life could be interesting

Fantasyland · 03/01/2016 14:52

Yes to Beth being pregnant and Kirk being a father!
That would be great.

LineyReborn · 03/01/2016 14:59

I wonder if some of the actors are back on the piss so stories aren't developing how they were originally intended.

Still no excuse for the mess it's in, though.

PuppyMonkey · 03/01/2016 15:09

Somebody mentioned Sean Bean earlier, get Sean Bean in the show. Grin

SweetestThing · 03/01/2016 15:10

Apparently Michael LeVell is back drinking again, so there may be some truth in that, Liney.
