Corrie thread - we haven't even got a dog storyline to keep us going now

A new thread as we head towards the worst part of every soap year - Christmas.

Dreading the return of Simon.

Dreading more of the arr Gareh & Alya "plot".

When did the brewery close and become a convenient empty garage?

Make yourself at home and get ready for more totally hopeless acting - it has to improve soon, surely?

Watched the programme the other night about Tony Warren getting Corrie made by Granada. He had to work so hard to get it going - but what an amazing talent he had - really seemed to be in the heads of the individual characters.

eddiemairswife · 30/12/2015 12:14

At the moment Little Liam is in Spain with Maria (maternity leave in RL). Actually I'm more concerned about the whereabouts of Ozzie.

mollie123 · 30/12/2015 12:41

don't blame Emily (really Shock) for decamping to Peru
will she return or retire gracefully being relieved to escape

SymphonyofShadows · 30/12/2015 12:48

YY to Tracey's hair. HD TV isn't doing her any favours at all, she looked really old and haggard during the scenes the other night. She isn't believable as a vampy black widow-type seductress any more not that she ever was.

Rachel0Greep · 30/12/2015 13:51

Such a dull episode. And why has Tracey been in every major plot line for the last 2-3 years? Her and amy are annoying. Miss the old days of corrie when it was all about families sat around tables at home grumbling arguing and funny one liners. Now it's all blackmail, new characters we don't give a shit about and ott stories and sets.

Totally agree, especially about Tracy. Complete dullsville, one-dimensional character, and surely she would be long barred from the pub, and just about everywhere else, if there was any shred of reality applied to the writing and producing.

MrsUltra · 30/12/2015 14:10

Agree about the HD and Tracey. On the rare occasions I watch I have looked on the laptop for the last few years, so came as shock when I looked at it yesterday on a real TV in HD.
Saying that , could only be bothered to watch for few minutes - the Tyrone snow etc was complete rubbish.
can't believe that this is the same programme I used to be glued slavishly to for many years Sad

FiveShelties · 30/12/2015 17:36

It is terrible - I think it has steadily gone down hill the more episodes it has - I loved it when there was just one hour a week - two episodes of 30 minutes. It used to be funny as well as dramatic.

SymphonyofShadows · 30/12/2015 20:22

Does anyone actually care about Tyrone and his debt? It's so grim and depressing, I wish he'd win some money on a scratch card just to get it over with and decorate that awful back room while he's at it

MissBattleaxe · 30/12/2015 22:55

Agree. So very dull right now. I know it sounds callous but I just can't engage with hope's cancer storyline either. Or the debt. Or the table tennis. Or the very distantly related surprise Dad. Or any of it.

WotNoLoobrush · 30/12/2015 23:00

Here's to better storylines next year 🍷

RainbowCake · 30/12/2015 23:31

Can anyone tell me what happened just after the break after Kevin caught Tyrone with the money?
Sky had a hissy recording it and it missed a bit.

EachandEveryone · 30/12/2015 23:35

It all spilled out and Kev cancelled Tenerifee to lend Ty some money.

I hate how they have made Amy into some kind of money grabber. It's not realistic at all that a young child would put a price on everything.

youngestisapsycho · 31/12/2015 00:18

They always make the kids horrible as they get older... Like Gabby in Emmerdale.

MissBattleaxe · 31/12/2015 08:12

EachandEveryone it is when that child has been raised by Tracey Barlow!

Rachel0Greep · 31/12/2015 11:44

Just when you think, they have ploughed the depths, of rubbish storylines, they have Emily, an elderly woman, who has spent her life, in the one place, going to Peru, as a volunteer. Words fail me.

MissBattleaxe · 31/12/2015 11:47

Without Emily they will all have to look after their own children instead of leaving them "with Emily"

Rachel0Greep · 31/12/2015 11:55

That's true. Grin

AnguaResurgam · 31/12/2015 11:56

"Can anyone tell me what happened just after the break after Kevin caught Tyrone with the money?"

They had a serious talk, in which Tyrone admitted he's gone to a payday lender for £2k but he's been missing payments and now owed about £10k. Kev was all wise and fatherly, once he understood the situation, saying he stil, could not afford to buy out Tyrone's share of the garage, but could afford to give him some money to help him out. But only on the condition that he told Fizz all about the debts.

The idea of Emily being adventurous doesn't strike me as odd, she was always active and following her conscience wherever it led and I wouldn't find it incongruous for it to lead abroad. But that doesn't mean I think they've got it right. It's all far too sudden and seems to be based on one phone call last week from Spider (who hasn't been mentioned for years). This absolutely should have had a proper lead up, and it didn't.

I hope Emily returns once the new team is in, assuming they restore Corrie to adequacy.

(I guess Mary will become babysitter to all whilst Emily is away).

MissBattleaxe · 31/12/2015 12:21

I've read that Eileen Derbyshire is taking a break for a rest, so she's not gone permanently but she is in her 80s now so probably finds the filming tough at times.

doitanyways · 31/12/2015 12:44

I think a story about the financial impact on a family with a very unwell child would be interesting, but it's turned stupid with the fake snow and reindeer and brass band.

Everyday reality of being unable to work, hospital car parking fees, benefits being delayed or unpaid, childcare for ruby - might have been an interesting take.

Rachel0Greep · 31/12/2015 13:33

I agree that Emily might well be adventurous, and I still remember her joining in willingly with Spider's activities, many years ago, but I imagine that the travelling to Peru, adjusting to climate etc, would be a huge thing for someone of her age. I think she should have gone to visit Mavis, or something.

RainbowCake · 31/12/2015 17:50

Thank you for filling me in. Damn sky box.
It would make a good story line with the true impact of a very sick child. But I don't think I can cope with more whiny hand wringing from Fizz.

Eastie77 · 31/12/2015 17:58

As well as being an unpaid babysitter, Emily usually hosts Tracy when she is periodically thrown out of no.1

Amy has some very funny lines but it is a shame she is apparently shaping up to be another version of her mum, hard nosed and calculating. Since Tracy was in prison during her early/formative years you would have thought her personality would have been shaped and influenced to a greater extent by the MacDonalds and Ken & Deidre.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 01/01/2016 08:38

I'm finding it hard to follow as there are so many fast storylines . Not looking forward to the rest of the Hope story , Fiz's face getting her to put shoes on was bad enough .

mollie123 · 01/01/2016 08:42

not being picky but would not Emily need a passport (has she ever been abroad), innoculations against certain horrible things, a visa(?) depending how long she was staying, travel and medical insurance (or is she relying on gofundme Smile ) and she leaves on a few days notice from receiving the phone call from spider. Why is the vicar always on hand for the Corrie residents?
Only bright spot was Ken's shirt (literally Shock)
Why is Carla being so OTT over finding out her business partner is really her father when he did not know himself until a few days ago - and this is a woman who is supposed to be so strong and resilient.
