Corrie thread - we haven't even got a dog storyline to keep us going now

A new thread as we head towards the worst part of every soap year - Christmas.

Dreading the return of Simon.

Dreading more of the arr Gareh & Alya "plot".

When did the brewery close and become a convenient empty garage?

Make yourself at home and get ready for more totally hopeless acting - it has to improve soon, surely?

I think Carla's husband was her dads nephew?

theliverpoolone · 29/12/2015 17:57

I've been trying to puzzle out the Connor relationships too. Carla only married into the Connor family, but it seems from this that they must all have known each other for all of Carla's life. What relation are Michelle (and Paul & Liam's) parents to Johnny??

MissBattleaxe · 29/12/2015 18:03

You see if they'd established clearly how the new Connors are related to Carla, we might care more or the story line might have more impact.

Instead they brought the new characters in about five minutes ago to shoehorn a crappy Christmas story line in that nobody really understands or cares about.

oneowlgirl · 29/12/2015 18:05

Michelle said that Johnny was her dad's (so Paul's dad too) 2nd cousin.

MissBattleaxe · 29/12/2015 18:12

2nd cousin? That's so boring. What a crap storyline.

absolutelynotfabulous · 29/12/2015 18:42

liverpool yes, Carla married into the Connors, didn't she? So why, if she's divorced from Peter, did she revert back to Connor and not her maiden name (whatever that was?).

So, Carla married Paul, a Connor.
Liam (who Carla had a fling with if memory serves) was Paul's brother. Michelle is their sister(?) so also a Connor.
The Connor parents live in Ireland, and visit occasionally.
So, the new Connors are related how?

oneowlgirl · 29/12/2015 19:02

Michelle, Carla etc were all brought up in England & knew each other from school days & then Michelle's parents moved back to Ireland a long time ago which is why they visit occasionally.

Rachel0Greep · 29/12/2015 20:19

Missed the Christmas episodes. Might catch up at weekend. As pp said Fizz does my head in, with that ridiculous put on voice. Am convinced she developed it when Hayley was ill, but maybe she always had it.

AnguaResurgam · 29/12/2015 20:33

"So, the new Connors are related how?"

You know, I've realised I don't actually really care.

But if they really are second cousins, it'll mean they have a set of great-grandparents in common.

absolutelynotfabulous · 29/12/2015 20:50

I've just realised Carla's maiden name is Donovan! D'oh!

I think the way in which the Connors are related may prove interesting. Carla seemed shocked last night, and not just because Johhny is her dad! She was married to another Connor, so...(projects wildly).

MissBattleaxe · 29/12/2015 23:07

If Johnny is carla's late husband's second cousin then the storyline is pointless. If he was her uncle then maybe there would be an incest angle.

Tiggeryoubastard · 29/12/2015 23:56

The storyline is pointless anyway. Corry has really lost the plot.

oneowlgirl · 30/12/2015 00:02

Agree Tigger - I watch in hope that they'll return to their excellent ways of slow burning stories & fully embedding characters without even realising they're doing that, with the typical comedy moments dispersed throughout.

mollie123 · 30/12/2015 06:15

but - I thought Michelle was married to a Connor (the younger brother of Paul (Carla's first hubbie who died in a car crash (while Leanne was in the boot!)) who died young and was the father of her Ryan (who was switched at birth)
confused as hell - and I don't really see why the father of Carla should now come out of the woodwork as not who she thought he was and worthy of blackmail by yet another Connor (now Carla's half-brother) who is locked up for murder Xmas Hmm
where does the 'departed to Downton Abbey' Liam fit in with this - wasn't he the brother of Paul Connor and therefore no relation to Carla and the other Connors
solution - too many Connors and I have lost the will to live Smile

mollie123 · 30/12/2015 06:44

it seems Michelle was really a Connor (sister of Paul and Liam) so no relation to Carla (except SIL) her dearly departed Dean (father of one of the Ryans) was not a Connor.

LineyReborn · 30/12/2015 06:56

I had to look this up, but apparently Johnny Connor is the cousin of Barry Connor, father of Paul, Liam and Michelle.

Which makes Carla and Paul second cousins?

mollie123 · 30/12/2015 07:05

Liney - second cousins are the children of first cousins - so I think you are right
please say they do not bring Barry Connor back into the storyline (did Michelle's parents reappear for her wedding) and it is complicated enough Xmas Smile

LineyReborn · 30/12/2015 07:07

Barry Connor was the sleazy pisshead, wasn't he?

MissBattleaxe · 30/12/2015 09:32

Yes Barry was the sleazy one. I don't think viewers care enough about the Connors to bring any more in. The new family is particularly dull. Shayne ward isn't bad though although the missing sock storyline had me gripped.

Fantasyland · 30/12/2015 10:26

How on Earth did Rob find out ? And why has he kept it secret until now, surely considering he was close to Carla he would have told her before!!!

eddiemairswife · 30/12/2015 10:40

Don't forget Little Liam.

cleanmachine · 30/12/2015 11:01

Urghhhhh Jay caught up on the xmas episode. Couldn't be bothered to watch any earlier.

What a farce. Bars and pubs fill on xmas days with people abd bands. Who does that on xmas day? Most people stay at home eat go for a walk nap. The xmas scene was cringe and looked like it cost about £30,000 to organise! Ridiculous considering last month he had to pay his sky bill with a defunct card. Him and fizz really get on my wick.

Such a dull episode. And why has Tracey been in every major plot line for the last 2-3 years? Her and amy are annoying. Miss the old days of corrie when it was all about families sat around tables at home grumbling arguing and funny one liners. Now it's all blackmail, new characters we don't give a shit about and ott stories and sets.

Fantasyland · 30/12/2015 11:14

Yes we never see little Liam , and why doesn't Michelle ever see him or mention him as part of her family as she is his Auntie!

absolutelynotfabulous · 30/12/2015 11:34

Quite, fantasy.

That's the trouble with Corrie now. There's no consistency and people don't behave as expected from day to day. It's not realistic and viewers can see through it all. It's supposed to be quality drama, and is silly and sensational.

I'm surprised anyone watches.
