I didn't watch EE at the time of his leaving so I looked up Wiki

It basically says he went to stay with his aunt for Christmas and then allowed to stay into the new year

I just find Claudettes accent annoying, it's like she suddenly remembers she's a cockney at the end of a sentence.

I'm sure that the donkey Dot "knitted" for Matthew was crocheted...

The problem with EE is they have all these mysteries but when they're resolved it's never that interesting.

If that's the case with Claudette then:

She was probably a colleague of Gavin's mother, as implied by Dot she was a prostitute

Possibly a colleague of Pat Harris. When Les first arrived he hinted that he had known Pat previously

But Claudette is far, far younger surely than Gavin's mother, Pat Harris, Aunt Sal and Peggy et al. When they were younger women 'back in the day', Claudette would have been a child.

It'll be another story that doesn't stack up, I expect.
