I think Nancy is going to convert, which would be interesting as I don't think I've ever seen that story done

I thought the bit with Linda's mum was (unfortunately) quite realistic. I was expecting Nancy to say 'believe everything you read in the daily mail' but they chickened out with newspaper!

Elaine is a cowbag but yeah her saying what she did isnt unrealistic sadly.

I agree that scene was realistic but I don't find Maria Friedman at all convincing as working class cockney Elaine.

Why is Elaine such a cow to Whitney about pulling her weight and working behind the bar? Whitney and the Vic has nothing to do with her. At first I thought she was quite fun but she's getting on my tits now. Her and Babe, it was a shame they let her come back.

Elaine had quite a few scenes tonight -

She spoke to Tamwar with regards to the wedding and referred to Muslims as "them" and was ignorant/racist towards islam (can't remember exact wording sorry). Nancy quite rightly was highly offended and refused to speak to her.

She also went mental at Whitney for going out even though Whitney had worked 6hrs straight with only a 15 min break.

She also was rather rude to Shirley (although Shirley gave as good as she got)

Elaine said she thought saris were pretty but not at a wedding & made several comments about "them" having weird traditions. Nancy told Mick she'd been rude about Islam & Elaine insisted she'd not said anything against Islam. Nancy's now refusing to have anything to do with Elaine until she apologises to Tamwar.

I love Nancy

Nancy is great and they'd better not fuck up her relationship with Tamwar. I think an Islam conversion storyline would be interesting, especially since her brother fought in Afghanistan.

Elaine mocked Nancy's wedding outfit (looking at a photo of Shabnam and Kush's wedding). Nancy happily got Tamwar's help in pronouncing shalwar kameez properly, but Elaine referred to it as a sari anyway, made a disparaging remark about 'them/those people and their weddings' in front of Tam and his little brother, and Tam left awkwardly. Nancy was furious.

Both Whitney and Nancy told Mick they weren't helping Elaine at the bar.

Nancy wants Elaine to apologise to Tam.

It was I suppose a pretty good depiction of the casual shitty racism that sadly exists in places all over the country - my home town and where I live now included.

Nancy converting would be a good story and, done properly, might help people understand a bit more about the Muslim religion and what it takes to convert. instead, they will just do something silly with them no doubt and it will fizzle out, or they will split up. Was Tamwar married once before and she left on a motorbike?

Tamwar was marries to Afia and she left him on a motorbike after he ran in to the fire because he thought she was in the house.

Mrsjayy, I think what pissed Nancy off was Elaine's attitude to being told some new facts about her boyfriend's family and culture - dismissive and rude. In front of Tamwar, who had brought his little brother over to meet everyone.

I think Elaine's comments, while horrible, are quite a realistic portrayal of how some people react to relationships between cultures/races. Her reaction was probably very mild compared to stuff that is said in real life.

Nancy75 agree with you on that one. A person like that in RL would say stuff they just won't put in EE. So the writers have to get the tone of it right, reflecting realism, yet not be true to how people like that actually talk.

I hope the writers are up to it.

Yeah liney Elaine was dismissive and really nasty about it she didnt stop her racist drivel once Nancy corrected her on and on she went.

They don't really have racist characters on EE now do they? I know Jim Branning was unhappy about his daughter marrying a black man, but that's the last storyline I really remember where someone was outright racist.
