No they don'y have racist characters, and while i'd rather not watch people being racist it's not very realistic.
I think a Nancy converting storyline could be interesting, you could see how her family feels about it, how other Muslims feel about it and also what she would go through herself.

I think it’s a mixture of not getting away with casual racism at 7:30 like they could 10 + years ago and actors not wanting to be portrayed as bad in long term roles. Like when John Brandon joined the cast permanently. The same thing happen to Billy Mitchell he was introduced as a horrible child abuser, then when he signed up for the long term they forgot it and made him likeable.

I was a little worried when Shabnam's relatives turned up & looked horrified at Nancy that they were going to do an insular Muslim-boy-can't-date-white-girl thing. So pleased when they were just shocked at her outfit! I love that they've managed to include a religious family with genuine beliefs without turning them into psychopaths/extremists/busy-bodies like they do with every Christian family.

I think they did the muslim disapproval thing with Saed being gay.

Didn't Phil steal some of Roxy's money at some point? She seems to have been living a pretty extravagant lifestyle - apparently £3m is an unending supply of money. Not sure who owns R&R anymore. I think both Ronnie & Roxy sold their part in it - weren't Phil & Janine co-owners for a while? There was definitely some angst caused by someone selling their half to someone the other owner didn't get on with.
