ITV’s six episode thriller series Unforgotten from former ITV drama executives Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes’ fledgling indie Mainstreet Pictures will premiere on Thursday October 8th at 9pm, it has been announced.

Penned by Undeniable scribe Chris Lang, Unforgotten tells the story of an 39 year old cold investigation into the murder of a boy who was killed in 1976. The modern day investigation is run by DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan, who must re-examine the evidence and investigate the key suspects – Robert Greaves, Frank Philip Cross, Lizzie Wilton and Eric Slater – in order to close the case. The series utilises a multi-stranded narrative, set in different parts of the country, which explores and connects each of the principle characters.

The six-parter is produced by Mainstreet Pictures and features a large cast that includes Sanjeev Bhaskar (The Kumars), Nicola Walker (Last Tango In Halifax), Trevor Eve (Waking The Dead), Bernard Hill (The Grid), Ruth Sheen (Our Girl), Tom Courtenay (The Dresser), Gemma Jones (Marvellous), Brian Bovell (Death in Paradise), Cherie Lunghi (Casualty), Hannah Gordon (Hustle), Claire Goose (Mount Pleasant) Tamzin Malleson (Midsomer Murders), Peter Egan (Downton Abbey), and Frances Tomelty (Catastrophe). Ripper Street helmer Andy Wilson was the director.

I think as far as matt was concerned being an accessory was as bad as being a murderer. Particularly as there were at least 2 men killed and one seriously assaulted.

Re Clare being guilty and Eric a meek and mild mannered gay man trapped by the law of the time...have we forgotten that the man he assaulted said nothing of Clare to his sister and said if a policeman hadn't turned up Eric would have killed him - that is another reason why I believe it was Eric.

lorelei9 · 12/11/2015 22:13

I was sorry for Sir Frank too.

I was thinking by about 9.20 there must be a second series because that's why the ending is woolly. Seems a shame to me.

Agree Nicola Walker is excellent, love the portrayal of the working relationship with Sunny.

again re Thea, if I recall correctly, JoJo was blonde, yes...? So why wouldn't Thea be? I also come from a rainbow family but I am confused as I thought JoJo was a white blonde girl anyway.

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 12/11/2015 22:14

I assumed that the implication is that Matt is a nasty shit; it's always been him hurting her. Black eye/burn on hand etc. We were meant to think it was Eric.

lorelei9 · 12/11/2015 22:14

I also think they'll pull a Broadchurch - I don't think Clare did it.

Good point baconyum

Fenwick was just the smokescreen of the series.

Very sad re Claire even if she had done it and Im not convinced she did. No one deserves to be tortured to death slowly.

Jimmys mum at the grave reminded me of my granny and ladies of her generation who would tend the graves of their loved ones every Sunday after Mass. And for some very strange reason it reminded me of when we had to bury the wee one who was my first grandchild after a pregnancy of 20weeks. I can recall being told we had to bury him and running up the hospital corridor to my daughters room where everyone was shouting 'we can take him home, we can take him home'. Its bloody daft the thing you think about at times. Oh and Im not upset, really, this was just to illustrate I can well understand Jimmys mum lying on his grave the way you would lie on a sons bed when tucking him in.

Jo-jo white but not blonde. Fr rob was not blonde as a youngster either if we base him on Bernard hill. A 3rd possibility or a blonde ancestor or good dye job or possibly Jimmy's with him having a blonde/fair ancestor seeing as he was half Irish?

No sympathy for SIr Phillip. Can see him using his daughter to get as short a sentence as possible! He hasn't changed, still a gangster just in an expensive suit these days!

Fr rob may be redeemable but wouldn't have changed if he hadn't been caught out. Left to him his wife and her daughters would have discovered his affair and Thea at his funeral!

Eric I don't believe as I've said.

Lizzie has at least without being pushed by others or external circumstances tried to redeem herself by helping others. Also seems to feel genuine guilt and remorse for her past actions. Is she due to go to trial for her past?

SweetestThing · 12/11/2015 22:28

Didn't Sir Frank kill himself, or are we supposed to think he might not actually have died?

lorelei9 · 12/11/2015 22:29

Bacon "A 3rd possibility or a blonde ancestor or good dye job or possibly Jimmy's with him having a blonde/fair ancestor seeing as he was half Irish?"

sorry, what has Jimmy to do with the child of Father Rob and Jo Jo? I apologise if I've missed something crucial - I also remembered the photo of JoJo as being a blonde girl so maybe I've got mixed up.

I don't recall any pics of Father Rob as a youngster but even if he was dark, Thea could still be blonde? But after all that, it looked dyed to me.

Sansoora · 12/11/2015 22:33

Is she due to go to trial for her past?

I really do hope not.

Baconyum · 12/11/2015 22:35

Jimmy was also sleeping with jo-jo and was a possible father of the child or at least he thought so.

I think it's possible there was at least one other possible father of Thea. Jo-jo was very guarded and secretive about the whole thing. Jo-jo's hair could have been dyed blonde when photo taken but when we saw her in the series and the actress is brunette. Wouldn't be surprised if jo-jo was taking money from yet another man/men as blackmail/maintenance.

And we don't really know Thea either. She could be just as deceptive.

Can anyone tell me why a woman would fear losing her child if the married man told his family about the child?

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 12/11/2015 22:37

JoJo had dark hair when she was interviewed. I think Thea looked exactly like her half sisters - so v likely she was Father Rob's.

Yes, Sir Frank killed himself, presumably rather than face the rest of life behind bars. But could have been that he felt guilt because he was more involved. He certainly acted 'guilty' - could he have been more involved, but Eric too scared to squeal on the gangsters? Hence framing his Alzheimer's wife. They never explained the nail through Jimmy's finger. (Or did they? DH kept chatting to me Hmm )

Claire had a memory flash of Jimmy being hit - so she was there, but might not have been the killer.

But I just can't get over how they left her - being tortured by her son like that. I found it utterly chilling. Was he meant to be her retribution or something?

Sansoora · 12/11/2015 22:38

ok, so the hair could have been dyed but there is no getting away from the fact Thea could have 'passed' as a white person.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 12/11/2015 22:39

Though, wouldn't it be a twist if Fr Rob turned out not to be Thea's father? He ruined his whole life supporting her, raising her as his own, sacrificing his family for her??

Sansoora · 12/11/2015 22:41

But I just can't get over how they left her - being tortured by her son like that. I found it utterly chilling. Was he meant to be her retribution or something?

It was horrific, wasn't it? But Im not sure it was meant to be retribution. Im more inclined to think we were meant to be horrified about about the plight of innocent woman.

ateacupofgin · 12/11/2015 22:42

Is sadwidow around tonight?

I just read the RT article... There will be another series but a different unsolved crime, so no more loose ends to be tied up here. I am disappointed in lots today, maybe it will make more sense as I mull things overnight.

Too many loose ends for me, and I am sure that on Eric's flashbacks it was a man who found him not his wife.

Matt, well I think there is much more there. And his cruelty shows Claire is not unpunished.

lorelei9 · 12/11/2015 22:43

oh I forgot that Jimmy slept with Jo jo!

tbh this is making me find it more convoluted with the threads not properly tied up...

Sansoora · 12/11/2015 22:43

I have a feeling Sadwidow is here tonight. Smile

Clawdy · 12/11/2015 22:44

Think everyone is over-thinking the Thea thing, she is obviously Father Rob's daughter, end of story. And Clare was the killer. There were far fewer twists than we were expecting. Slightly too many happy endings and a bit of a letdown. Will watch next series though.

Sansoora · 12/11/2015 22:45

ateacupofgin - so really we've been given enough to make up our minds how it all panned out. We can chose our own ending. Smile

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 12/11/2015 22:45

You're right Clawdy - that was the end. I've just read that series 2 will be a brand new story, with the same two detectives.

Sansoora · 12/11/2015 22:46

Think everyone is over-thinking the Thea thing, she is obviously Father Rob's

Yes, I agree.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 12/11/2015 22:48

I didn't find it a letdown though, I thought it was brilliant.

Sansoora · 12/11/2015 22:48

And now its time for the Cube!!

And Im still wide awake and wondering shall I go downstairs and have a very early breakfast or shall I wait a couple of more hours, start my day as usual, then go back to sleep till its time to meet friends for a weekend brunch.

You're a terrible influence, all of you!
