Can't see a thread for this which started last night on BBC one , 9pm. I haven't seen the actress who plays Claire Church, the ex detective before, but she was in the Virgin Queen and Shameless. Set in Manchester and West coast of Scotland.
I thought it was based on a book ( possibly Nicci French or an author like that) but its not. Slow start, but the detective leading the investigations now was quite handsome and there is history between the two of them. The scenery for the west coast of Scotland was stunning.
Trouble is, I just felt it was cobbled together from other thrillers.

Hmm. Maybe the fact they didn't explain exactly why she left, had flashbacks etc is a hint that they will do a second series. Like Broadchurch kept alluding to Sandbroook but not really going into it until series 2.

They made it sound like something really horrific had happened while she was investigating the missing prostitutes didn't they.

I didn't like the flashbacks either, the way they tried to make them both younger was embarrassing.

I'm also kind of annoyed that the person who met Megan actually did turn out to be who he said. It doesn't feel like a very good message to put out there - yes, meet some random off the internet and you'll meet and have a lovely kiss before your stepmum comes and ruins it.

Didn't they show Claire in an earlier episode with burns on her arm/shoulder?

She didn't "lose" her baby. She chose to have a termination without even telling the foetus's father she was pregnant.
OK some women regret having TOPs but not usually to the extent here and I agree that then she should be getting upset at pictures of babies not crime scene photos and tunnels.
I felt it was very anti women who choose to have terminations implying they get scarred for life one way or another.

yes she said she attempted suicide while she was pregnant which is why she lost the baby

I'm kind of hoping now that that there is a sequel! There's a lot of questions that need answering ..

This is my theory. Claire attended the clinic considering a termination but didn't go through with it. However her details were on record so she was also attacked (hence the flashbacks etc) this led to her attempting suicide and losing the baby. I reckon this will all come out in series 2 and she will get off shooting Lucy because of it. All sorted!

Northernpowerhouse · 27/10/2015 14:20

And she has blocked it all out which is why she didnt recognise dogman etc.

I've just watched the last episode. WTF was this all about then? I feel like I've read a book but skipped vital chapters. Very disappointing.

LumelaMme · 30/10/2015 21:29

Just watched the last episode.

Lots of illogical actions. Bloody stupid. Waste of time.

hollyisalovelyname · 31/10/2015 16:50

Finished watching it.
Far too atmospheric, camera dwelling on Ann Marie Duff's face.
Confusing.
Probably the series looked good on paper with storyline simplified.

Sometimes writers are so up their own backs**es trying to be enigmatic they just end up losing their bewildered audience Smile
