Can't see a thread for this which started last night on BBC one , 9pm. I haven't seen the actress who plays Claire Church, the ex detective before, but she was in the Virgin Queen and Shameless. Set in Manchester and West coast of Scotland.
I thought it was based on a book ( possibly Nicci French or an author like that) but its not. Slow start, but the detective leading the investigations now was quite handsome and there is history between the two of them. The scenery for the west coast of Scotland was stunning.
Trouble is, I just felt it was cobbled together from other thrillers.

Signing in, I just watched episode one on iplayer. It was ok, I'm not usually one for crime drama but then I enjoyed Broadchurch so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm watching Unforgotten as well now.

I didn't even notice a lorry driver, I'm so unobservant! I never figure out the plot of these things.

BelindaBagwash · 11/10/2015 13:44

Found it a bit slow and fell asleep half way through so had to rewind. Will stick with it as it's only 4 parts,

A bit dull for my liking and the bleakness of the Western Isles scenery doesn't help. Just makes me thankful I don't live there.

wowfudge · 11/10/2015 14:19

Oh and did anyone notice that when her other half was sorting out stuff outside the cottage, he tied something with a length of red rope?

deadwitchproject · 11/10/2015 16:01

lizziemacqueen and wowfudge now that's the sort of twist I like. It would be amazing if it was her originally and this is a copycat.

2rebecca · 11/10/2015 21:01

Here's hoping the main character is either going to decide to help and stop being moody and pathetic or will stay by the sea side and let the rest of them get on with it. Make your mind up and commit to your choice girlie.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 11/10/2015 21:32

Why do the two main characters keep suddenly SHOUTING AT EACH OTHER, FOR NO APPARENT REASON?

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 11/10/2015 21:39

We've given up with it. Just too slow.

Shame really, it looked promising in the trailer.

Was the picture of her daughter at the end? Why did she faint ? is she taking anti ds? Is the young girl her daughter or step daughter?
Someone is stalking her, i think its the boss lady ( not sure why i think this? ) ? Confused.

I am finding it incredibly slow and tedious. Just as something starts to happen they cut to some grey scenery or a flashback scene. And everything is just so damn sloooooow. I bet they could have made one or two decent episodes if they had simply cut out all the useless atmospheric scenes. It's like they only had enough script for an episode or two, so they decided to go all Nordic.

And yes, that was a photo of her daughter. How did that envelope even get on her table? Are randoms allowed in the rooms where they do their jobs? Or was it someone from the inside?

Yes, those looked like antidepressants.

MyNameIsAlexDrake · 11/10/2015 23:33

I thought the picture at the end was the woman who gave the DNA sample, mimi's sister.

She didn't faint, just pretended to to get out of danger (she told the DS guy this is what she did).

I'm thinking it is her daughter but with the DS rather than Norrie (she contemplated abortion so one of the prostitutes gave her clinic card but she didn't go through with it).

Other than that, not a fucking clue what's going on!

fuzzpig · 12/10/2015 01:18

I think Megan is (secretly) the DS' daughter too as she seemed to hint at that 'I didn't use the clinic' etc.

I really don't like Norrie.

I thought the photo at the end was Megan, and they (whoever that is) want revenge on Claire so they are going to try and get her. In a remote Scottish island. Not sure how that'd work!

Agree it's quite slow but as it's a short run I'll stick with it.

The80sweregreat · 12/10/2015 08:25

oh, the abortion clinic , she said to John ' I only got a leaflet there', so Megan could be his daughter.
it could be John's wife stalking her then, usually the ones not in it much turn out to be important. Or the boss lady, still not convinced about her. Am not keen on Norrie either, despite the lovely house..! seems a bit controlling.
At first, I thought she was admitting to still taking the pill as he wanted a child, but that was wrong. I was trying to pay attention!

Found episode 2 better.

It does seem to suggest Megan could be DS & Claire love child. Although relationship between Claire & Megan not very convincing, I too first thought step daughter.

Interesting obs about red rope Wow and Norrie shouting at Megan in changing room.

At the moment they seem to be indicating two killers , one possibly a woman/ ex- victim..

Something about Claire's mental health, did she get depressed after being unable to finish the case in the 90's and has she got PTSD, did she have a traumatic experience on the case?

fuzzpig · 12/10/2015 11:58

Did they say in the first episode that she'd gone undercover? So does that mean she was pretending to be a prostitute?

I'm not that keen on the DS really but he keeps looking at Claire like he wants to kiss her. Sure it'll happen at some point.

2rebecca · 12/10/2015 12:26

Episode 2 was better although it was highly unbelievable that she'd go running in to a dark tunnel alone after a potential killer when she freaks out if shown photographs. It was stereotypical TV crime cop idiocy.

2rebecca · 12/10/2015 12:29

Also is husband meant to be coming across as increasingly controlling. Telling her whether she can or can't take medication and checking up on her sounds creepy. She doesn't seem very attached to him either. I'm not getting any real affection between them just power games.

The80sweregreat · 12/10/2015 13:34

John is still really in love with her, he gets too close to her and just looks frustrated all the time! She doesn't seem that into Norrie and his biscuits. all very odd - who left the envelope for her? She is a bit unhinged I feel.
oh well, will stick with it, hope it has a clear ending.

I got bored of AMD looking angst ridden and wanted them to get on with the fecking story.
Yes, indeed: as slow as sludge AND I was doing the ironing at the time so it must be very slow indeed.

Have way through Episode 2 on iplayer and debating whether to find something else...

deadwitchproject · 12/10/2015 18:03

dear god this episode was so slow and full of clichés. Must persevere and find out whodunit.

Narp · 12/10/2015 18:10

I thought it was a bit tedious. Too many facial close-ups. Trying too hard to be meaningful

I like Anne-Marie Duff though

foragogo · 12/10/2015 18:54

I found it quite watchable BUT would they really let an ex police officer from 15 years ago, with no current and up to date qualifications, certifications, licence etc be alone in a police station, at night, with full access to all evidence and public CCTV? would they even let them interview people? she's just a civilian!

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2015 22:37

Enjoying :)

I thought was her daughter as sure she said mum as got off the train when visiting - watching on iplayer and was anoug 36 mins so can someone check

Tho she looks about 14/15 and thought murders were 19/20yrs ago so can't be her and ds daughter

Her partner is very possessive and controlling and yes I noticed that he was tying /had red rope in his hands Shock

Surely someone can't just walk into a police hq /crime scene and place an envelope

And what did she lie about?

wowfudge · 13/10/2015 09:35

Didn't the guy running away look like Norrie? Plus wasn't the 'you lied' in lipstick in the photo that appeared on her desk on the mirror in her hotel room?

The second episode was much brisker than the first.
