Can't see a thread for this which started last night on BBC one , 9pm. I haven't seen the actress who plays Claire Church, the ex detective before, but she was in the Virgin Queen and Shameless. Set in Manchester and West coast of Scotland.
I thought it was based on a book ( possibly Nicci French or an author like that) but its not. Slow start, but the detective leading the investigations now was quite handsome and there is history between the two of them. The scenery for the west coast of Scotland was stunning.
Trouble is, I just felt it was cobbled together from other thrillers.

I thought the end of episode 2 was quite scary, the deserted building, late at night.

I think it was Julie Hind (the DCI's wife) who left the envelope with the photos on her desk, trying to scare Claire off so she went back to Scotland.

I agree about Megan being the daughter of DCI Hind, the line "I didn't have an abortion" was a giveaway.

At first I thought the hooded runner might be also Julie, but not sure now, not sure about it being Norrie either, how fit is he to get away from Claire who runs daily?

fuzzpig · 14/10/2015 01:18

I don't think Julie could've left the envelope - that was left on her desk when Claire was phoning Hind, and that showed her leaving a voicemail on his mobile while Hind and Julie were quietly shagging away in the background.

Even though he blatantly only woke Julie up because he was all fired up from his dinner with Claire. Ick.

NotQuitePerfect · 14/10/2015 07:23

foragogo that's exactly what DH and I said! How could AMD character possibly interview suspect? Surely that would completely invalidate the case if it ever came to court Confused

dillite · 14/10/2015 10:27

Norrie would be too predictable. Who wants to be it will turn out to be her daughter?

Her interviewing the suspects was ridiculous. Just as being this closely involved with the case at all.

fuzzpig · 14/10/2015 10:51

I agree it would be too predictable if it's Norrie. I will roll my eyes at the screen in an exaggerated fashion if that turns out to be the answer.

gingercat12 · 14/10/2015 14:41

But isn't Norrie meant to be younger? Although if it is a copycat, age does not matter.

fuzzpig I really enjoy this program, but spend half the time "rolling my eyes at the screen in an exaggerated fashion" Grin They do not really care about plausibility.

fuzzpig · 14/10/2015 15:16

I was wondering today if the whole genre of crime drama is actually a giant recruitment drive :o

quirkychick · 18/10/2015 21:25

Anyone watching this tonight? I think the caller looks rather like DCI's wife.

NoelHeadbands · 18/10/2015 21:33

Someone put me out of my misery and tell me what the boss woman actor has been in previously?

quirkychick · 18/10/2015 21:43

I googled her and she used to be in Chef, ages ago. Also, Casualty, I think.

The caller is obviously the student. Lucy.

NoelHeadbands · 18/10/2015 21:44

Ah of course! Thank you Flowers

wowfudge · 18/10/2015 22:03

Can anyone tell me what happened between turning the kitchen tap off and trying to track Lucy's call? I re-wound to see something I missed then it suddenly jumped forward and I missed something potentially bigger!

PooSweats84 · 18/10/2015 22:19

Tonight's episode was all over the bloody place! I have no clue what's going on!

applecatchers36 · 18/10/2015 22:26

Getting much more action packed that's for sure!

So Megan is Norries daughter not Claire's.
Claire aborted Hinds child.
Norrie jealous/ controlling partner.

Claire think's there may be two killers, one possibly a woman (victim) a copycat of the male original murderer.

The young Oxbridge graduate cop is turning out not to be so nice after all.

Claire is preoccupied by the past, the investigation, the past relationship, maybe a traumatic experience on the case in the 90's...

Someone is after Claire?

gingercat12 · 18/10/2015 22:32

I was a bit confused. How did she end up in John's house? Was it after she passed out and they went out drinking?

How on earth could she not have heard Lucy talking from within the empty flat? And why wasn't her hand all bandaged up and stitched up? That was a seriously deep cut. Claire's constant long face is annoying me as well. The wedding stuff was simply painful to watch.

Also, what is that young zombie boy upto? He seems awfully shady.

dillite · 19/10/2015 00:30

Oh, and John admitted to ignoring her all those years ago and if he hadn't, they may have avoided the murders. And what is he doing now? Bloody ignoring her again!

dillite · 19/10/2015 00:32

I feel like demanding three, soon to be four, hours of my life back from the BBC. One year's free tv license will also do.

deadwitchproject · 19/10/2015 10:55

dillite I agree. My god if the finale doesn't have something interesting I will have wasted so many hours of my life.

I think young Oxbridge cop is being played by an attractive journo.

quirkychick · 19/10/2015 11:25

So, Harding did the killings in the 90s and Lucy has copy-catted (is this a word) because she was attacked too, so she killed Agota. Lucy thinks Claire lied to her, did she report it to Claire, why was there no case then, with a witness? So, Lucy is out to get Claire, Claire hadn't told anyone about Lucy, from some kind of guilt, maybe, so she is in danger.

Was Claire attacked, or is she traumatised by the abortion, John has own child and so does Norrie - reminders for her of what she lost. I think they have focused too much on Claire's past anguish, about what we are not sure, instead of the plot. It has been hard to feel sympathy for Claire when we don't really know why?

I would bet my dog on it that that friend request came from Lucy. And she's the one trying to get Megan ro come to Manchester.

The sidekick DCI is so dodgy, it could be a red herring but he isn't that nice. Lucy is after Megan. The scene at the wedding just made me cringe, especially afterwards when they nearly had sex against the wall! ( i really hate any sex scenes in things to be honest, just me i think!)
it was a bit messy this episode and i missed the first 10 minutes too as i forgot it was on.
