Anyone watching this, I like Suranne Jones so I'm hoping it's good, but she is one paranoid woman, maybe she has good reasons, we'll wait and see Smile

Yes I noticed in his big thank you speech that he never said he loved his wife. He sounded more like he was acknowledging a colleague or something.

It was quite gripping, I thought, and I'm expecting some serious twists and turns to keep it going for another four weeks.

squoosh · 10/09/2015 14:40

I was gripped too and I do enjoy a midweek grippy type show!

Optimist1 · 10/09/2015 14:42

Agree with PP that the story belonged on MN Relationships! Very gripping - although one hair shouldn't have sent her into a frenzy of doubt there's obviously a bit of a backstory there. I'll be watching future episodes.

lurkingabit · 10/09/2015 15:04

Agree Suranne's character is clearly unhinged and I suspect there's a huge backstory to her past. I find it hard to believe that the husband is having an affair and all these other people are aware of it and saying nothing. I do think it's linked to this backstory. Or as a pp said, maybe she's dreaming.

Totally unbelievable as a GP tho. Totally.

I probably will watch the next few episodes.

Hobbitwife001 · 10/09/2015 16:18

I loved it, the plot was a bit unhinged, but thought SJ was excellent. Having been in that situation myself I thought she played it very well.

Looking forward to next week, lots of twists and turns to come I think.

iwantgin · 10/09/2015 17:43

Right.

I have just watched it again (didn't nod off halfway through like the first time).

I missed the best bits!

Am now even more intrigued as to what is going on.

Dr Foster is a hard nut - threatening the girl's abusive boyfriend.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 10/09/2015 17:58

Prior to the hair there was the lipsil though wasn't there?

Narp · 10/09/2015 17:58

I love Suranne Jones

Excellent in everything she's in, IMO

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 10/09/2015 18:00

If the idea of him having a daughter is true though as well as there needing to be a reason generally for that fact to be covered up its odd that multiple people would discuss it with him on a different secret mobile number.

Zucker · 10/09/2015 18:12

The pink lipgloss and the hair set her off. The whole show was like one of those live update troll threads on here but I was gripped by it.

Did anyone else notice at the dinner party and Simon was telling how he knew she was the one and proposed. The blonde friend says something like.....Oh so that must have been when........ but stopped herself saying anymore. With a knowing look to Simon. The credits does have water references with a bikini so more to that, there's a scissors shown too!

The photos on the secret carboot phone are very odd. All of the friends and the husband having this wonderful sun filled life while the wife and son are where?

southeastdweller · 10/09/2015 18:58

I think the MIL in assisted living is key - she may know what he's hiding, something like bigamy or/and the girl is his daughter. I expect we'll see more of the MIL in future episodes.

MajesticWhine · 10/09/2015 20:07

A stray hair would never bother me but the lip balm definitely would.

sliceofsoup · 10/09/2015 20:25

I haven't read all the posts, but I re-watched the bit where the patient follows him to the house, and it really is a full on snog between him and the woman.

gossipgirlxoxo · 10/09/2015 20:51

I just assumed he was having an affair with the daughter, but all of your comments really have got me thinking! It all seemed very dark to me - too dark to be a simple 'he's having an affair' storyline.

Very much looking forward to next week!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 10/09/2015 22:15

Where have I seen his mother before? Confused

southeastdweller · 10/09/2015 22:17

I remember her from Chariots of Fire and Call the Midwife.

LyndaNotLinda · 10/09/2015 22:25

She's Cheryl Campbell. She had the lead role in Testament of Youth years ago (showing my age!) but has been in loads of things since.

I thought it was rather preposterous but enjoyable tosh. Perfect post-GBBO fodder

CremeEggThief · 10/09/2015 22:35

Loved it. So gripping, if a tad unbelievable.

What if the daughter IS his daughter, but he doesn't know? ShockSmile

southeastdweller · 10/09/2015 22:39

Incest? I think that would be too dark for the BBC.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 10/09/2015 22:44

I knew someone would know. Grin

KittyMcAllister · 10/09/2015 23:03

Just watched this on catch up. Gripping, if utterly bonkers! I think some sort of mental illness in the SJ character will be unearthed. But it reminds me of that saying - just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you. It seems remarkable that her professionalism hasn't been called into question before now- I'm thinking that dismissed doctor will feature again, as will water, and her MiL.

squoosh · 11/09/2015 10:47

Maybe she'll be sectioned 'for her own good' a la mad wife in the asylum type Victorian gothic tales.

PollyGone · 11/09/2015 10:59

I think that she'll devise ways to destroy all the people who've betrayed her, one by one, and then drown her husband. Gripping stuff!

TheSpottedZebra · 11/09/2015 11:41

Ooh, I does the water thing (which I kissed entirely and only gleaned from this thread), relate to the nursery rhyme do you think?

Dr Foster went to Gloucester in a shower of rain
He went in a puddle, right up to his middle and never went there again

Hmm. Somewhere she didn't go again, metaphorically?

StDogolphin · 11/09/2015 18:22

Someone is going to drown, four seems a lot of episodes to get there though.

Is it set in Gloucester? Grin
