Anyone watching this, I like Suranne Jones so I'm hoping it's good, but she is one paranoid woman, maybe she has good reasons, we'll wait and see Smile

I think this will be one of those unreliable narrator stories. The Radio Times says it's a story about how suspicion can destroy your life, so it's not about whether he is having an affair but how the suspicion destroys her marriage and her friendships.

Everything so far has been from her point of view except the kiss between the husband and the girl, which was from Carly's pov. I think you can see what you think you want to see sometimes so it may have just been a hug, but Carly thought she saw a full blown snog so that's what the viewers saw.

In the same way that we get flashbacks to specific events, I think we'll get the same in the last episode of the true events rather than what SJ thought she saw.

Hubby has a secret - a secret phone with secret pictures of a woman (susies daughter) and their Friends on it - plus their friends know what is going on

Even if all turns out to be innocent the trust has gone from Their relationship and possibly friendship with others

PantryofWhoGivesAFuck · 12/09/2015 11:17

I am not sure about the daughter thing - it may be true. But the iplayer on pause clearly shows a prolonged kiss with her hands on his face and his hands on the upper side of her body. Not sure you would kiss your adult child like that?!

The unreliable narrator stuff is interesting though.

I just watched it again (time to kill at home today).

I think he is a sociopath - all his interaction with his wife are completely about him. The way he doesn't blink or miss a beat when she shows up at the care home, when his wife asks about the lip balm etc. He talks about all she does form him at his birthday but doesn't say I love you. Either he is entirely innocent, which we know he isn't, of he is a mastermind of deceit.

He mentions how much his W supports him, enabled his career etc. He is "about to be successful" but isn't yet. I think she has funded their lifestyle for years, all the while he has been betraying her. And she has believed him and believed in him, and loved and supported him. And she is about to find out that everything she thought about him and their life was a lie.

He's a "charmer" who has used a successful woman to support him financially, in a nice life, all the while he is living a secret life.

What was the dinner party comment about the red hair, and then the proposal and the friend says "oh so she was ..." or something - what was that about?

ATM I'm in agreement with the theory upthread that he is sleeping with lots of OW.

But I don't get why all these people are colluding with him and keeping DrF in the dark about secret holidays etc.

Roll on next week.

NoelHeadbands · 12/09/2015 13:25

I enjoyed it, in a wtf Confused kind of way. Actually can't wait to see the next one.

Me and DH had a bit of a chuckle over the scarf thing- in our house it would have been

'Here take my scarf'

'No thanks, it's black and I'm wearing blue'

End of conversation. DH goes off to continue whole secret life undiscovered.

Egghead68 · 13/09/2015 22:28

Over acted tosh but I am hooked.

Hair dye seems significant. Dr F went from redhead to brunette; the secretary dyed her hair blonde in the past year...

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/09/2015 14:39

I didn't even notice the hair colour change

LovelyFriend · 14/09/2015 15:18

Not in the episode Blondes :)

She was talking about having red hair on when they first met and were on holiday in Greece, and then dinner party friend made that weird aside to DrF's H - "Oh so that must have been when...." or something.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/09/2015 20:27

I'm blonde Grin

cheapskatemum · 14/09/2015 20:42

Dr F was at pains to point out that it wasn't redhead red, though, it was bright pillar box red or some such, if I remember rightly. Then wasn't there a comment made about her going through a phase, or was that my interpretation of what was actually said? I haven't got time to watch it again, sadly!

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 14/09/2015 21:59

It was quite batshit. But enjoyable, bollocksy batshit. It was actually like an MN "Is my husband having an affair or am I paranoid" thread.

The writers must have come here for ideas.

TheCraicDealer · 14/09/2015 23:50

Just watched this tonight, not bad for a mid-week drama. I thought the affair bits were quite well observed; how she took him as his word when she asked him about the lipstick because she trusted him, then the "what the fuck" moment when she found the hair. To be honest I probably just would have thought, "probably picked it up in a cab/cloakroom/restaurant", even though I'm suspicious about pretty much everything.

Felt so bad for her when the complicit pals were revealed, can't wait to see where they go with that. When the patient was in the car by then I was wondering if she was secretly cray cray/delusional and ~iT wAs AlL a DrEaM~ or some shit. Now I'm hoping she's going to go on a revenge rampage. And that defo not his DD- if my dad wanted to spend like 2.5hrs with me three times a week I'd be telling him to get a hobby and I'll text him at the weekend.

iwantgin · 15/09/2015 07:14

Aah.. Is it a Monday night show? Missed it if so.

saveforthat · 15/09/2015 07:58

I thought it might go a bit like she devil. Anyone remember that?

Clawdy · 15/09/2015 09:21

Yes! The book and tv series were great and the film version was a travesty. ....

LovelyFriend · 15/09/2015 10:19

I rewatched She Devil fairly recently - they repeated it late at night. Very dated, but great. I remember the sensation when it was first out.

iwantgin it's on Wednesdays after BakeOff I think.

squoosh · 16/09/2015 16:22

GBBO and Doctor Foster, happy days!

TheSpottedZebra · 16/09/2015 16:31

Yes!
Wednesday is the new Friday.

LovelyFriend · 16/09/2015 16:41

Yes I am a bit excited

MorrisZapp · 16/09/2015 16:54

Wooo it's Dr Foster tonight! Hope we're spared her husband's arse, I think we get the message on that one.

squoosh · 16/09/2015 16:55

At the start of the programme I thought he (and his bum) was quite attractive but by the end when he was getting on my nerves I was turning my nose up at him Grin

southeastdweller · 16/09/2015 18:57

I rewatched bits just now and the meaningful looks the daughter was giving at the party made me think it's her he's having the affair with, so maybe not his daughter...but I don't know if it was her that he passionately kissed outside the house. I know the actress who plays the daughter is 'up and coming' so whoever she is to hubby, I suspect she has a large part in future episodes.

I'm predicting the writer will rip-off pay homage to Gone Girl and not have Dr F confront cheating hubby until the last episode, and by then he'll know she's onto him.
