Anyone watching this, I like Suranne Jones so I'm hoping it's good, but she is one paranoid woman, maybe she has good reasons, we'll wait and see

Both Simon and the secretary had photos of the holiday on their phones. I don't think it's that odd that they would each have their own photos or have shared them? Gemma saw Simon's on the phone in the boot of the car and then the secretary's in the office. And she asked her to email them to her.

Why/how would Gemma have got hold of the secretary's phone to see the photos though? I have loads of photos on my phone but even if someone grabbed the phone and the screen lock wasn't on they'd have to go to the menu, find the gallery and scroll through loads to find a specific one. If I hadn't just taken the phone back from them and told them how rude they were.

in the fourth episode, the secretary gave her the phone to look at after Gemma asked to see the photo's.

I was out running this morning, which always clears my head. I was for awhile running behind a very shapely late teenage girl in leggings. The combination gave me a brilliant new theory about Dr Foster denouement.

We have been shown Simon and Gemma making love twice I think (I haven't watched every bit). But have we seen Simon and Kate actually making love or being physically passionate? ...... I think not.

So my brilliant theory is as follows: Kate is Simon's daughter and THEY BOTH KNOW IT. There is no affair of Kate with Simon. Kate's mum knows the situation (obviously), but not the Dad. It's kept quiet to spare the Dad's feelings and Gemma's too, as she's known to be fragile and erratic (viz attempted drowning).

Simon is not lying when he says he loves Gemma (and that's why he can actually make love to her) and that there is no affair. Shame on us all for doubting Simon!

It's the neighbourly accountant who made Kate pregnant on the holiday together. He couldn't believe his luck to get lucky with Gemma too!!!

Simon has told Kate of the money problems at work and so she's forged or worked with her Mum to get the money loans.

oh, and Roz is just a typical confused not too sharp loser.

I like your theory Ozfan but it doesn't tally with Simon's mum admitting to Gemma that Simon was having an affair and the affair had gone on for 2 years. Actually, thinking about it, was Kate mentioned by name when they were having that conversation? Perhaps he is having an affair, but it's not with Kate, his daughter?

Or perhaps we are making this WAY more complicated than it actually is !!

nicknamenoname, I have options about the mother:

• as you suggest, the affair is actually with someone else (e.g. Roz), but this seems unlikely, or
• Mum was jumping to conclusions about his closeness with Kate because of her own experience with his Dad, or
• Simon found it easier to pretend to Mum it was an affair rather than being her unknown grandaughter at this late stage of her life

I thought the affair with Kate would turn out to be either all in Gemma's head or with someone other than Kate but there have been at least two, possibly three scenes of Simon and Kate snogging so there's no doubt they are having an affair.

Simon is going to drown I think. He can't swim, Gemma nearly drowned herself but then thought "no" ...as in "no, why should I drown?" Plus all the stuff in water in the opening credits.

All will come out over dinner, the family will want him dead for messing with their darling daughter, so they're all in on it.

My husband doesn't kiss and cuddle his 20 year old daughter like that, plus why would Kate look daggers at Gemma and Simon when they're pubically affectionate in that case and why meeting her every night for 2 yours, I struggle to get my 19 year old son to facebook message me and if I suggested cuddles on a bench like they were last week he'd run away!

How convenient for Carly that Simon broke up with Kate in the bar she was serving in.

Dr.Foaters spy ( is that Carly?) going around to husband's lover ( is that Kate) and saying she lived around the corner and Kate? Accepting all this and suddenly they are almost best friends. Utterly daft. The series is an insult to our intelligence

It is entertaining though

I'll probably watch the whole series despite my intelligence being insulted

After Dr F found the phone in the boot of the car she searched for Kate online and found her on social media, that's when she saw the photos again.

But the pics of them together weren't on social media.

Pics were never on social media. First time she saw them was on Simons second phone she discovered in boot of his car.
Second time was asking his PA to show them to her and then having her email them to her.
Suranne Jones was on tv Saturday said Kate has been imploding so far ep5 she explodes!
Cannot wait...

Well at least the writer has promised us a proper ending, which is what most were hoping for but secretly thinking it wasnt going to happen!

A few random observations:
Simon reminds me of Will Young.
The accountant's wife reminds me of Annabel Karmel
One of Ros and Carly will be good.
The photo on the phone during the holiday looks photoshopped to me.
But then why would it be on the secretary's phone too if say Ros had faked it.
Is Tom being an only child significant as it (sadly) is not the norm in dramas unless there is a reason. There is always a default to 2plus children.
I think both her parents having died young is meant to have shaped her character.

Some of the theories below are too far fetched for a one hour episode denouement I'm afraid.

To work it out, we have to think what the premise of the whole series is. Strong GP under pressure falls apart a work due to personal problems and childhood bereavement?

Secretary had the photos on her phone because she was there, I think she went on the holiday because it was made to look like a cover for a business trip.
