US OPEN tennis thread- it's the last Grand Slam of the year- who will win?

Obviously, my heart wants Nadal to end a shit year, with a massive (if pretty unlikey) win. But hey, the defending champ is Marin Cilic- so who knows what will happen.Grin But he will face Coric in the first round, which might be tricky.

And Murray has Kyrgios. For a one-time only deal, I am firmly team Murray. The arrogant little Aussie needs to end 2015 with his tail between his legs- and come back next year more contrite. Of course, it has the potential to be as messy and sweary as their other encounters- which will trigger Nick's suspended ban. Here's hoping Grin

Vamos indeed.

I was hoping for an easier next round- but it is Raonic, another tall big server.Sad Come on Rafa!!

even though I like Milos

ooh- good result for Kevin Anderson, beating Nishikori (this is good, as it may effect Rafa's ranking later on). And Rafa is 1 set up against Raonic.

Rafa looked good today WinkGrin hope he can do well this week. Rankings looking not too bad for London, fingers crossed.
How's everyone? (Have had a nightmare with the hacking thing that got sorted this morning :))

Raahh · 15/10/2015 21:40

Hello Mama- hope everything is ok with you.

I've just seen Rafa has Stan next roundSad. Vamos !!

Mama1980 · 16/10/2015 09:45

I'm good thanks Raahh, how's you?
Vamos Rafa, this is gonna be a tough match

Raahh · 16/10/2015 10:03

I'm fine- have been trying to get the new fangled gadget thing (that dh promised would let me watch the tennis) to work. it isn't. Angry, so I am flexing my refresh finger. Grin

He needs this win- I am sure Raonic is the first top 10 player he has beaten this year, (and he doesn't really 'count' when it comes to the big results, sorry, Milos)- so to beat Stan would be a step in the right direction.

Vamos !

Excellent start Rafa! Vamos!

Whoop! That's the way to do it, Rafa! Grin

I am not going to listen if anyone tells me that Stan was injured, or playing blindfold

And it means he has officially qualified for London, which given the way the media were talking about him a few months back, is brilliant. Vamos Grin

And he plays Tsonga next- which of the potential semi finalists is probably his best chance.

(I'll shut up now) Grin

Vamos indeed! That's great news.

Raahh · 17/10/2015 11:27

EEk! The Tsonga match not going to plan. But at least Rafa got a bagel in the second set.

Vamos !

Poor Rafa.

Hoping Murray can beat Djok this afternoon.

Raahh · 17/10/2015 12:12

Oh bollocks. Sad.

As a fan, I am the kiss of death.

Mama1980 · 17/10/2015 12:53

Aw crap just got in and saw the score. Sad

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/10/2015 13:45

1st set not going well for Murray/

Raahh · 17/10/2015 14:43

Heres hoping Jo Willy can pull out all the stops against Djokovic.

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 17/10/2015 15:02

Oh dear Sad. Not the results I was hoping to see today.

Allez Jo-Willy for tomorrow.

Mama1980 · 17/10/2015 15:43

Allez Jo!
I don't mind Djokovic but this is getting boring, need someone else to win something

Raahh · 17/10/2015 17:07

That's the thing, isn't it? I have grown to like Djok more over the last couple of years- but when someone is on this sort of form, it does get dull.

(Although, I wasn't complaining in 2013, when Rafa was the one doing the winningGrin).

OP posts:
Mama1980 · 17/10/2015 17:35

Me neither Raahh WinkGrin but it is more interesting when things are a bit more mixed up.
Sadly don't think Jo is going to challenge much tomorrow. Hope I'm wrong though.

carabos · 17/10/2015 19:58

Love Jo-Willy but fear Djok is going to go through him like a dose of the proverbial. He's on fire this year.

Raahh · 17/10/2015 21:10

carabos- he really is- this is his best year by far. And the thing with Djok is there is no sniff of injury, or weakness - he could go on like this for a while.

OP posts:
Raahh · 18/10/2015 11:36

And Djok win.

Oh well.

OP posts:
Raahh · 18/10/2015 11:37

or even wins.Grin
