US OPEN tennis thread- it's the last Grand Slam of the year- who will win?

Obviously, my heart wants Nadal to end a shit year, with a massive (if pretty unlikey) win. But hey, the defending champ is Marin Cilic- so who knows what will happen.Grin But he will face Coric in the first round, which might be tricky.

And Murray has Kyrgios. For a one-time only deal, I am firmly team Murray. The arrogant little Aussie needs to end 2015 with his tail between his legs- and come back next year more contrite. Of course, it has the potential to be as messy and sweary as their other encounters- which will trigger Nick's suspended ban. Here's hoping Grin

amithatbloodywet it was nice to put a face to a name today Wink

Another fabulous day at the Davis cup and a fantastic win for GB!!!

AmIthatbloodywet · 20/09/2015 23:30

yy *trixy. Small world, I've never met a RL MNer before Grin. Am hoarse, stiff and knackered, but watching highlights before bed

I bloody love Davis. Cup

RipMacWinkle · 20/09/2015 23:35

Wish I'd known yesterday there were MNers there. Could have had a mini meet up Smile

AmIthatbloodywet · 21/09/2015 08:44

I've never seen live tennis at that level before. It was fantastic, the whole team played brilliantly. I'm still on a high, and have just caught myself humming No Limits. Wink

Just got tickets for the ATP world tour finals at the 02. Don't really mind who I see as they are all top players but a bit disappointed that it probably won't be Andy. According to the Beeb today he may have to pull out if the Davis Cup finals just after the week are on clay in Belgium Sad. Don't blame him though as he will need time to prepare on clay.

trixymalixy · 22/09/2015 09:31

I'm still on a high too! I'm also still quite stiff!!

There's some great photos on Facebook Amithat. I can email you some if you don't do FB.

Just picking up the thread, since I lost it due to being laid low since Saturday with a migraine. First one for a year, though, so I feel I shouldn't grumble. Except, a week on, I still feel dreadful. But c'est la vie Grin

I cannot believe it is officially Autumn, and the summer of tennis seems ages ago nowSad

It was Del Potro's birthday the other day. It would be great to see him come back- I do wonder how the top 10 would be looking if he hadn't been injured. Sad

Great result for Konta -she has had a great run this year.

be great if she could beat Serena.

Konta plays Venus next. She is playing brilliantly at the moment.

Raahh · 30/09/2015 18:44

Ahh, well that's even better- stands a pretty good chance against Venus.

Catching up- Rafa through his first round match in Beijing- I am really hoping he can claw something back at the end of the year.

Can't believe it is October- Aussie Open will be upon us before we know itGrinGrin

Don't, Raahh. Was just wondering where this year had gone.

Was just about to bump this thread because it had fallen off TIO.

Raahh · 06/10/2015 20:50

I am really hoping Rafa makes it to London- tricky decision for Murray though. He is obligated to London, but Davis Cup is the week after- on clay. Since GB are pretty much a one player team, it isn't ideal.

Would look very suss if he was 'injured' for the WTF, but ok for Davis Cup...

Arghh! Rafa through to the SF- and is playing Fognini next- AGAIN!! I think he has lost to him each time they've played this yearSad

Vamos indeed! And best of luck to Rafa for tomorrow. He'll need it with Djok in such ominous form.

Raahh · 10/10/2015 18:51

It will be the first time he has beaten a top 10 player in ages. It would be a massive boost if he could do it, though.

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 10/10/2015 19:26

It really would, wouldn't it? Am I right in thinking it's the first final he's reached this year?

Vamos!

Raahh · 11/10/2015 13:32

he has won a couple of 250 tournaments, and has reached at least one other final ( lost to Murray in Madrid).,

It's not going well though...

OP posts:
Raahh · 11/10/2015 13:42

Vamos come on- give him a match.

Not that I am actually watching- could be slugging his guts out for all the scores are telling me.Grin

Raahh · 11/10/2015 13:59

Sadhe has been broken in the second and it is now 3-1.

come on!!!! Vamos. Even Raahh dog is looking defeated .

Oh dear, that was a bit of a hammering Sad.

I only saw a bit of the match as DH is hogging the TV for the rugby, but what I did see wasn't pretty if you are a Rafa fan.

Raahh · 11/10/2015 16:22

I had to go out.

Sad

I'm trying to be positive that at least it was a final- but it is proof he is really coming up short against the top players. it happens to all the best players eventually,- unfortunately for him, he's playing when Fed the Robot is, and is expected to carry on.

I don't want him to retire- but I hate how gleefully the media write about his decline- ignoring all the records and titles that he has.

Shanghai next... Hope he can put this out of his mind to progress to the latter half of the week at least!

Raahh · 14/10/2015 16:10

Phew! Tough match for Rafa against Karlovic- but he scraped through.
