Corrie Thread - you know it is bad when the best storyline is about a dog

Time to start a new thread. Hopefully by the time this one has finished there will have been a terrible disaster and half the current cast will have disappeared.

At least Jazz-hands-Andrea is on her way out. I'd be grateful if she would take a coach-load with her.

OP posts:

People on here were speculating about that a few weeks ago.

WanderingLily · 29/08/2015 10:54

I've been watching Corrie since it started. Like you, southeastdweller, I missed a fortnight while we were on holiday and couldn't be arsed to watch the recorded episodes. Just deleted them.
It's the slackness of the writing (e.g. they forgot Kevin had a deceased child) and the continuity gaffes that annoy me the most; followed closely by the cack-handed tackling of ishooz, and the need to chuck a big-budget disaster in every now and then. Soaps are domestic. They should stick to little things and let the personalities of the characters lead the action.
I hadn't known it was on on Thursday but didn't feel as if I'd missed anything when I watched it yesterday.
It's like watching your dear old Aunt slowly lose her marbles.

BoGrainger · 29/08/2015 11:38

Hilda's link says it all. 'Corrie scriptwriters will be cobbling together a love story'. Cobbling together stories is all they do now! No proper writing at all. Gah!

Gingermakesmesick · 29/08/2015 12:56

I am dreading Hope with leukaemia.

Actually dreading it.

AnguaResurgam · 29/08/2015 13:02

Thursday's did contain one good line (this may not be verbatim):

Tim (to Craig): "Bruce Lee had his nunchuckers. I've got my squeegees"

I've seen an account of an interview with the director, which hints at a spoiler for the live espisode. Sounds as direly unwelcome as everything else atm.

ClaudiaNaughton · 29/08/2015 13:20

Like SE dweller and Lily, I think after decades I'm going to stop watching. Hope is the final straw. So depressing. We don't need that. Hayley's departure was bad enough.

WanderingLily · 29/08/2015 13:27

Is it wrong to start calling her No-Hope?

ClaudiaNaughton · 29/08/2015 13:32

And I think the dog "story" has run its course.

Gingermakesmesick · 29/08/2015 13:51

Ruby is very dark for a child born to light skinned Kirsty and Tyrone!

Wishful80smontage · 29/08/2015 14:49

Interesting others are giving up watching at the same time as me- I deleted the ones from this week and cancelled my planner. Its completely awful and the thought of the Hope storyline coming up too is just not good.
I'm glad I started watching Emmerdale a few weeks ago now that will be my soap fix hopefully Corrie will sort itself out and I can start watching next year but its rapidly downhill ATM- the boss has got to go and major changes needed..

AnguaResurgam · 29/08/2015 14:53

Agree, Wishful89smontage especially as MIL watches Emmerdale so I've seen a bit over the summer and have some idea who's who.

desperatehousewife21 · 29/08/2015 15:14

Yuck yuck! Liz and Lloyd YUCK!

EdithWeston · 29/08/2015 16:00

Not new between Liz and Lloyd though. They were at it over Christmas 2008.

It shows - once again - that the scriptwriters don't bother to check the history of the characters. Because (OK, I was only half-watching) I didn't spot a single 'not again' from Steve. Or signs that the couple concerned remembered their previous at all.

ajandjjmum · 29/08/2015 17:30

Liz did actually make reference to Lloyd about the fact that they'd been together before - then they ran upstairs without thinking of the implications of what they were doing!

thenightsky · 29/08/2015 19:13

I quite liked Liz and Lloyd together last time. Perhaps they'll become an established couple this time round.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 29/08/2015 19:17

Can't bear Fiz's half crying face , it's going to be worse than her in prison isn't it ?

WanderingLily · 29/08/2015 19:37

It's that Theatrically Mournful voice that does me in.

Jo4040 · 29/08/2015 19:57

It's like she's actually comedy acting crieing. That bloody face. I also agree about the voice.

Hasn't Fiz also had a personality transplant? Wasn't she once a bubbly 'Fizzy' character? Now she's boring as hell . I couldn't imagine her getting her tits out on top of Underworld now. I know you Mature as you age but come on corrie...

Squooshed · 29/08/2015 20:00

Oh Fizz doing 'emosh' is painful to watch. The crumpled face is laughable. And a bit creepy.

Forgot she was a bap baring wild child once upon a time! They've turned her into such a humourless drudge.

Rachel0Greep · 29/08/2015 20:13

Another long term viewer here. I did take a break before, but looking back it was way better then, at the time I took the break, than the dross it has become.

MrsUltracrepidarian · 30/08/2015 18:09

Been away a week and doesn't seem like I missed much.
Any episodes with a Sal/Tim story - they reall are the only ones I can be bothered to watch. And Craigie - was so pleased he got good GCSEs Grin

Rachel0Greep · 30/08/2015 18:58

I'm the same MrsU, there are just a handful of characters that keep me watching.
Tim had a few funny scenes with Craig, during the week, and he also had Baby Miley for an afternoon, aww.

eddiemairswife · 30/08/2015 22:51

I thought I was warming to Mary but she was so over the top about the Art Class that I've gone off her again. Incidentally the camper-van story has just fizzled out.

mollie123 · 31/08/2015 09:01

do agree about Mary - she was always a bit eccentric/talkative originally but now they have made her extreme and quite ridiculous. Where does she work as she seems to be in Roys and Dev's and looking after Dev's family and where does she live now campervan has gone
in fact they (whoever decides the script/stories) seem intent on making everyone so much a 'character' that they end up being ridiculous
think of Liz (her voice and language is getting more extreme),Gail, Tracy, even Steve (and his gurning faces) have all developed certain characteristics to make them 'eccentric or interesting' that they end up not being interesting at all. just my opinion of course.
