Corrie Thread - you know it is bad when the best storyline is about a dog

Time to start a new thread. Hopefully by the time this one has finished there will have been a terrible disaster and half the current cast will have disappeared.

At least Jazz-hands-Andrea is on her way out. I'd be grateful if she would take a coach-load with her.

Has he got depression in rl then? I hope he comes back.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/09/2015 12:03

That's a shame about Steve, he's one of the best in it and one of the few characters keeping me watching. I hope he comes back.

So glad to hear about the new producer - Emmerdale has a history of brutal cast culls (although I haven't watched it for years) so hopefully she will do similar with Corrie. It is criminal that they had the minibus crash and the Victoria Court fire and didn't take advantage to get rid of the enormous pile of chaff they've got.

Think you're right angua it will be new year until changes. I haven't been able to watch it last 4 weeks anyway its completely unwatchable the storylines, characters changing personality traits by the minute, no concept of time at all etc too much focus on callum storyline and I can't bear to even think about the Hope storyline so I will be avoiding like the plague Until next year I really hope new team, a good cull and back to basic storyline that are character led and develop over time naturally not most of the current stories which are so tacked on its untrue. Come on corrie be as good as we know you can be!

Rachel0Greep · 19/09/2015 18:04

Wishful, I totally agree with everything you said. It's going to completely unwatchable, over the next while, especially with the Hope storyline. I think Kate Oates will be a breath of fresh air. I understand that she worked on Corrie before. Stuart Blackburn had, in my opinion, all but destroyed Corrie. The only way is up, in the New Year. I am guessing she will chop some of the deadwood, and hopefully we will see a return to proper characterisation, and storylines, not rushed, thrown together stuff.
I will miss Steve, I read that he and his wife are due a new baby, and hopefully he will be back soon after then. Roy is due to take a short break too, early next year, he is in a play, I think.

AnguaResurgam · 19/09/2015 18:21

I agree, Rachel0Greep, because I think that Liz/Steve is exactly the right combo for The Rovers. Presumably Rover will go with him?

Rachel0Greep · 20/09/2015 09:51

Yes, I agree Angua. I am glad they brought Liz back, she and Steve are good behind the bar, and I liked her with Tony. (Now I did cringe a bit when she made the comment about keeping Steve and Michelle awake, when Lloyd stayed over).
Speaking of Michelle, I hope that doesn't mean she will be centre stage with Steve gone. Lots of arm folding ahead. Hmm
I hope Liz and Tony get back together, he is a very credible character, and Corrie needs all of those that it can get.

Did you read how the cat cheered when they heard the existing producer was leaving? Says it all really...

Blackcloudsbrightsky · 20/09/2015 10:24

I can well believe it!

I'm watching Callum shout at Max. It is buttock clenchingly awful.

eddiemairswife · 20/09/2015 10:54

Earlier this week Leanne said she had just returned from putting Simon on the train. This is Simon who sometimes still has to be taken or collected from school. He would have to change trains at least once during the journey to Portsmouth.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 20/09/2015 11:03

Have they explained why Peter is no longer in Antigua? Or has that plotline been forgotten?

OP posts:
millimat · 20/09/2015 11:57

Ha I've just noticed I put the cat cheered, not the cast!! Wouldn't surprise me though!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 20/09/2015 12:12

I loved it when Jim came back so I did

eddiemairswife · 20/09/2015 12:22

I think Peter's job was on a ship travelling to Antigua and, presumably, back again. Does anyone know what his actual job on board ship is?

MaisieDotes · 20/09/2015 13:01

Grin ken Aye, so did I, so I did.

Was there no Corrie on Friday?

AnguaResurgam · 20/09/2015 13:16

There was no Corrie on Friday, because ITV was showing the World Cup opening match.

There are the usual episodes on Moday (7:30 and 8:30) and then the live episode on Wednesday.

I couldn't find a TV page which gave a nice clear list of when esisodes will be broadcast (had to pick this out from 'preview pic' pages). Which strikes me as a bit silly when we all know it gets shifted around for sport. How about a bit of 'back to basic' with ITV (who are the top hit on searches anyhow ) adding a page that comes top on Google searches for 'when is Corrie on this week'?

MaisieDotes · 20/09/2015 13:25

Oh thanks angua

I never watch it when it's actually on, just on catch up. I sat down to what I thought was going to be two episodes but was only one (Thurs) Sad

Yes I agree they should alert viewers to the change in schedule.

Anne Peter was only meant to be going to Antigua for 6 weeks I think- or as eddie says, the whole trip there and back was a six week trip. Another bizarre plot detail for no reason that went nowhere. Unless he decides to move there permanently with Simon which would be a result.

Rachel0Greep · 20/09/2015 14:08

Ha I've just noticed I put the cat cheered, not the cast!! Wouldn't surprise me though!

I'd say the cat cheered too. Will probably get a better part, when Kate Oates takes over Grin.

Rachel0Greep · 20/09/2015 14:09

I'd say the live episode will be a letdown even though they are trying to hype it. I've read of various characters supposedly going to be killed off, in it, but I don't believe what is being supposedly 'leaked'.

SymphonyofShadows · 20/09/2015 15:04

I saw a spoiler thing this morning, the live episode looks like a load of old crap like the usual ones

Rachel0Greep · 20/09/2015 15:24

That piece they keep airing with David running away from Callum looks downright stupid! I just don't get why the Platts wouldn't have dobbed him in to the police long ago anyway Hmm.

southeastdweller · 20/09/2015 21:34

Been away for a few days and just read the news about the current producer leaving. Possibly the most recent Corrie travails (Sarah Harding publicity, an episode dipping to 4.9 million, and a scathing article in the Guardian) were the final few straws for the ITV bosses. I'm confident Kate Oates can get the show on track after the damage Stuart Blackburn has done, and has the backbone to do a cull, something S.B never did. The wage bill there must be ridiculously high...

Blackcloudsbrightsky · 20/09/2015 21:39

Callum will die in the live ep I imagine.

I can just picture the conversation.

'Paula Lane is going on maternity leave in the imminent future. Shall we have Kylie visit becky for a few months? She could take Lily with her.'

'No. I've got a much better idea. How about we explore her troubled past through max initially - he could have ADHD and Kylie could try to find his dad and slowly get sucked back into the world of drugs. Then on Christmas Day David can throw her out - that'll put everyone in the Christmas spirit! David can spend the next six months looking for her and meanwhile Callum can get closer and closer to max. And then, even better, Sarah and Bethany can come back and get close to Callum. Then when Callum shows his true colours max gets scared. Everyone will be on the edge of their seats.

'Are you sure visiting becky isn't more sensible ...'

Hmm

Stupidest. Story. EVER!!!

MaisieDotes · 20/09/2015 21:59

Grin blackcloud

ProfYaffle · 21/09/2015 06:42

Oh, the thing about messing the episodes around and not telling anyone drives me mad. It's like they want to keep the revised schedule secret. I don't know why the continuity announcer can't say 'a special hour long episode tonight because there's no Coronation St due to the rugby on Friday', or at the end of Wednesday's episode say 'don't forget, there's no Corrie on Friday but make sure you tune in Monday etc etc'

Rachel0Greep · 21/09/2015 09:59

blackccloud I said the very same thing when they were writing out Kylie for maternity leave. Just let her visit Becky, imagine all the rubbish we would have been spared!
I agree prof, and also for the last while, putting on extra episodes of rubbish, on Thursday nights. I would prefer three quality half hour episodes per week, instead of what is being produced at the moment.
