I haven't looked at my FF stats for ages rhu, I must admit I try not to do it too much, it feeds into a rather insecure and obsessive part of my psychology that I prefer not to feed.

Rhubarb01 · 31/08/2015 12:15

You're right it definitely can become obsessive pixie and I do try to curb it too but sometimes I need to give myself a bit of impetus to get going and keep on with it and it helps a bit with that. At the moment the stats stopped working a week ago and I've been ten days on writing a chapter which I'd like to claim needs it but I'm actually just procrastinating and diverting myself onto anything else. I am a bit busy with doing other stuff as well and the guilt factor at doing everything inefficiently is kicking in big time. I think the idea that someone, somewhere and their dog is reading it helps me sometimes. But yes, stats can become obsessive - you know lies, lies and damn statistics!

Rhubarb01 · 31/08/2015 12:33

Ooh just thinking I'd better be careful about FF. We all know what happened when Reviewgate kicked off and I don't want to start a Readergate controversy!!! Let's just say I don't really mind how many people read the story and I include all canine breeds in that and I'm quite happy to keep writing it however long it takes. Enough said.

KellyHb · 31/08/2015 12:50

FF stats?? I've never heard of it. Sounds ominous?? Anyone enlighten me. Confused

Richtea19 · 31/08/2015 12:59

jen I hope your day is getting better. I have a steam cleaner which I used on our dining room chairs where the kids drop food, wipe their hands on them! To be honest I made it worse as not only are the stains there I now have water marks from the steam cleaner!

It's absolutly pissing it down, it's been a washing, ironing and writing names in uniform morning. I forgot to buy name tapes thinking I had some...I've used biro!

Rhubarb01 · 31/08/2015 13:07

kelly when you login to your account on FF you click on the button on the left hand side which says traffic stats and you get a selection of stats you can look at. The one that says story stats shows how many views per day and per story/chapter in the month and interestingly the countries in which your readers are based. It seems to be this that has stopped working. the legacy stats show total reads, reviews etc since the story started. You can have a little play with that. But as pixie says it can become a bit obsessive and geeky so beware obsession!

Richtea I expect an important caveat on the steam cleaner is it depends on the fabric involved. They do usually say test a small area first. My sofa is getting on a bit and seems to withstand most things - small kids, three cats and a dog - I guess I've been lucky. Admittedly suede type fabric probably doesn't work well.

Stlll guilty on the clothes labelling - see I'm putting it all off and I'm heading for trouble with a capital T.

LolaKent14 · 31/08/2015 13:10

Have had to resort to watching miss marple as been raining all day. So we are all crashed on sofas and floor. Family visiting for weekend so pain can't do much today outside.
Very depressing as it makes me realise autumn is on the way!

Onlygirljen · 31/08/2015 13:14

Thanks ladies, have paid a visit to my mum to borrow her steam cleaner so will give it a shot... pixie my sofa is highly inappropriate for a toddler to be anywhere near but when eldest started school and I was told by a fertility doctor that my chances of falling pregnant were between very slim and none, I decided to be a rebel and waste an absolute shitload of money invest in both gorgeous cream carpets and a lovely light fabric sofa, knowing that there would be no more sticky baby fingers.

I was pregnant within 2 months Hmm

Just reporting back in ilove in r/l sat on kitchen floor staring into empty cupboards writing the shopping list as although it is chucking it down here have to go to tesco for supplies. Have had a really frustrating week of seeking out WiFi hotspots, so am now frantically trying to catch up with what seems to have been hive of social media activity!!!

However CJ was amazing on the canals...just sat here reflecting ...leaning on a lock gate, in the warm sunshine, watching the water flow in, his long strong tanned hands winding their way around my waist, his chin resting on my shoulder as he pulled me back into his lean body.. we watched the water in silence our breathing in pure harmony...he then whispered into my ear........ "Any chance of a cup of coffee and a piece of your famous fruit cake ?" But I can assure you all that isn't all he whispered!!! He is was quite wonderful!!

He was his usual assured confident self who fitted in perfectly with the crew, even Mr BK was impressed, and that is saying something!! We did all enjoy the old stag cushions in the pub one night!! [Wink]

Onlygirljen · 31/08/2015 13:18

rhu I just checked there and have no reader stats either. Like pixie I try and stay away from them, although my output is so few and far between at the moment that there's not really much point anyway.

orphan · 31/08/2015 13:26

Cor Waitrose café is crammed today. Clearly it's not just me with nothing better to do. The only way food shopping is bearable is by stopping off for a coffee and snack. If only Pornstar was on offer...

rhubarb I'm expecting dp to huff and puff through the film as he's a fan of the original ( but not quite as big a one as your bil). We're going to a late afternoon showing to give ds and dd time to summon the appropriate enthusiasm ie. get dressed.

orphan · 31/08/2015 13:30

Ooh BK I bet it wasn't just the canal water that was rising when you navigated the locks with CJ!Wink

Rhubarb01 · 31/08/2015 13:33

BK I like the sound of your canal trip and the lovely description. You have a FF story in you - give it a go!

Rhubarb01 · 31/08/2015 13:34

Jen as richtea said, best try the back of your sofa first with the steam cleaner where no one can see in case the fabric doesn't like it!

BK28 · 31/08/2015 13:35

jen can't offer any advice on cleaning as we held off on new carpets and sofas until DS had reached 15!! The old sofa and tatty carpet just coped with the detritus of the toddler/primary school years!! Good luck with the cleaner!!!

Rhubarb01 · 31/08/2015 13:39

Is 'fruit cake' a euphemism BK or perhaps it should be.Smile

BK28 · 31/08/2015 13:41

rhu that is really sweet of you, but in honesty it would be the shortest ff in history!! [Smile]

orph you know him so well GrinWink

BK28 · 31/08/2015 13:43

Well what do you think rhu ?? [Grin]

Rhubarb01 · 31/08/2015 13:44

BK Now surely CJ would be very upset to learn that it was a very short story - really that short!!!

BK28 · 31/08/2015 13:53

Oh i don't think either of us were disappointed, rhu it is just that my creative writing skills don't want to sully the beautiful experience!!

Rhubarb01 · 31/08/2015 14:01

That's very honourable of you BK and after all a lady never tells. Clearly six figure sums offered by tabloid newspapers puts that old adage to the test on a daily basis.

I read a little quote from Oscar Wilde the other day that made me smile.

"A gentleman is one who never gives offence unintentionally."

I'd like to think that CJ would fall into that category.

pixieg1rl · 31/08/2015 14:15

My friend is currently struggling to conceive a second time jen, I was going to suggest the time honoured booking a skiing holiday method of tempting fate, but a new inappropriate sofa may also work. Either are going to be cheaper than the eye watering sum she reckons a course of IVF is going to cost them.

BK28 · 31/08/2015 14:15

Oh most definately a gentleman he is!
But there is also the need for something to keep you warm in those dark cold winter nights!!!

Just had a shock statement from DH...he is quite happy to join the watch along and partake of the prossecco!!! Am I a lucky girl + he knows i am bonkers and obsessed!!

icemistOBE · 31/08/2015 14:36

That's good of him bk mine is still oblivious to my obsession fondness for all things Our Girl

Hammering it down here too. Very productive morning though: baked plums in wine, stewed plums, plum sponge puddings and pasta sauce. Kitchen a bit of a tip though.

BK is CJ back in Bath now for a rest? Sounds like you had a great time!
