Any Buffy fans around to discuss some things that have annoyed me on rewatching?

Posting in Chat because this doesn't warrant a permanent thread. I fully admit to overthinking the issues below, I've been binge watching and may have lost perspective.

  • Faith was made a slayer when Buffy died the first time. When she dies in Season 5, no mention of a duplicate Slayer, correct?
  • The Principal in Season 7 talks to Buffy about how he's looked through her file, why is her response not, 'you creepy fuck, what a breach of privacy, I left school 5 years ago'?
  • Neither Buffy or Willow have regular jobs (Willow is never seen in employment). Who pays for Willow's flights to England for rehab, their weapons, various house repairs (don't tell me Buffy could get insurance for accidental damage / civil unrest with her claims history), Dawn's school books etc.?
  • When Spike goes to get himself restored to his former self: why exactly does that Demon con him and actually give him his soul? If it was a good demon I could understand it's ultimately setting him on the road to redemption, but it's not.
  • Why did Joss Whedon make Angel Irish, when it must have been obvious within 5 syllables that David B's Irish accent was the worst thing in the world?
  • Kennedy: I was all for Willow finding someone else after Tara, why on earth did they make that person such an utter knob? Is she meant to have some redeeming features / be perfect for Willow and the actor ballsed it up?
  • After Joyce died, why didn't Buffy's dad make a single appearance, surely they could have found some reason / decent plot to make this happen, it's so clanging for me that a parent, no matter how absent, wouldn't even stop by once after his childrens' mother died suddenly.

Was an amazing episode. Seemed almost too good to be buffy writing wise

tilder · 26/07/2015 22:17

Now I really want to watch it, but most of ours was on VHS and they went in the last house move.

We don't have netflix either. I can feel an amazon splurge coming on.

Am trying to remember my favorites. I do have favourite quotes.

There's going to be violence, strong language

And

What's your childhood trauma

Still get used Grin

Buffy is very quotable. I always think that if someone get the quote, they will be a fan. So not too Blush ! Cordelia had some great lines.

HopefulHamster · 26/07/2015 22:23

I called Spuffy Spuffy when it was airing (WAY better than Bangel, come on!). So don't think it post-dates the show.

For a start I pretend season 7 doesn't exist when I re watch it.

I've never got why hush is so highly thought of. I'd happily skip that episode.

I'm on season 4 atm and Adam is def the least charismatic of the big bads.

The mayor was so good. Such pleasant manners on the outside. So smart- the only person to tell buffy and angel they were doomed. He even saw his own demise and left that tape for faith.

I think buffy was overly harsh on faith. It didn't bring out the best in her, yet no one picks her up on it.

Imo drusilla was the best vamp- buffy faced her numerous times but never defeated her- unlike every other vampire. She never gets the credit she deserves.

I assumed slayers don't get paid because they are young girls who would still be living at home and going to school. Really buffy should have died at the end of season one, like all the other slayers- dying young. I don't think anyone expects them to get much past 18 at the most.

Irl Giles left becuSe ash had a young family in the UK and he wasn't seeing much of them when he was in LA filming. He obviously never expected the role to go on so long!

SMG was tremendous as Buffy and so funny in Hush and as Buffybot.

Why did they kill Tara?
To torment good people. It's the non-vampire equivalent of having your soul restored and having to suffer for eternity.

'Bored Now' is my most oft-used quote IRL, but as far as quotable script goes, 'cup of tea, cup of tea, almost got shagged, cup of tea' is my favourite.

I so do "bored now" Blush

"out for a walk, bitch" is also a favourite quote

thatstoast · 26/07/2015 22:35

Spuffy was definitely spuffy when I was on live journal in 2001. Although my thing was spillow and wangel. Non-cannon stuff was always more fun.

Favourite episodes: Omwf, tabula rasa, hush, becoming 1&2, fool for love,The wish..

Top Quote: That'll put marzipan in your pie plate bingo!

Another one who does "Bored now" here.

I've also been known, on occasion, to use "if the apocalypse comes, beep me" but it's a tad dated now Grin

CrapBag · 26/07/2015 22:49

Ha ha mrsbert. Love that video with Buffy's miming a slayer. Grin

TheseSoles · 26/07/2015 22:49

Spuffy's been aroubd for ages but I think it's one of those things that very specific to certain boards, like apparently some people used bangel. (which does sound incredibly pants!) but no one ever did in the massively pro-BA forums I was in!

I have said this loads of times on Buffy threads but anyone who has only watched Buffy missed out on Angel actually becoming a really awesome character in his own show. And Wesley! He was amazing. They also missed out on series 5 which has Spike as a series regular and is very funny.

They killed Tara to be mean as mean, mean mean. Total leaf on the wind moment. Especially because she'd only just gone on the credits as a regular!

JeanneDeMontbaston · 26/07/2015 22:50

'Good lord, man, she's eighteen. And you have the emotional maturity of a blueberry scone.'

I love that - not for the blueberry scone (WTF?), but the tone of voice.

JointheJoyride · 26/07/2015 22:55

I take no pleasure in popping up on these threads to say that my sister met James Marsters on holiday in Florida in 2001/2 ish. She had photos and everything....She called me to say, "just met that fake English vampire you love".I'm still bitter.

Is it just me or was Willow never very convincing as evil Willow? Or, was that the whole point? Hmm....
