DAVIS CUP TENNIS- GB v FRANCE- Starts Friday 17th at 12pm

First up is James Ward v Gilles Simon, followed by Andy Murray V Jo Willy Tsonga.

I think the French team are collectively stronger- although it seems an odd decision to leave Gasquet out of the opening matches, when he had such a good Wimbledon. GB are in the semi finals for the first time since 1981.

Here are the squads

Great Britain
Andy Murray (world number three)
Jamie Murray (world number 20 in doubles
James Ward (world number 89)
Dom Inglot (world number 40 in doubles

France.
Gilles Simon (world number 11)
Richard Gasquet (world number 13)
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (world number 12)
Nicolas Mahut (world number 22 in doubles)

All at the lovely Queen's club. Fingers crossed the weather is fine.

Think I'm going to miss this as DS has a hospital appointment this afternoon.

Raahh · 17/07/2015 10:01

oh, and lovely picture of Del Potro with his poorly wrist. I do miss him - it's so long now since he played Sad

Thanks for the lovely, shiny new thread Raahh Star

Looking at the squads, France have clearly picked a team who perform well on grass. GB are going to have their hands full, but hopefully home support will carry them through.

As usual, I won't be able to see much of it, but will check in now & then.

Good luck GB! Tennis

And in other tennis news, I've just been reading that both Rosol and Berdych got married this week. (not to each other) Grin

Popular week to et married, just after Wimbledon. Although for Djok, it has now worked out that his anniversary is during it Grin

Aww, congratulations to them both.

hugoagogo · 17/07/2015 10:13

Is it just best of three for davis cup? I need to go out at 7.

What has Tomic been up to?

Raahh · 17/07/2015 10:38

They are best of 5, hugo

I think Tomic was arrested for an incident in a hotel. He's his own worst enemy, is Tomic. Though he probably gets it from his fatherSad

Thanks for the thread, Raahh!

Looks like an interesting match up. Totally agree the French team looks strong.

hugoagogo · 17/07/2015 12:25

Best of five is more fun really, but i do hope they get the job done in time.

hugoagogo · 17/07/2015 12:49

The crowd are gonna wear themselves out getting so hyped up already Shock

Raahh · 17/07/2015 12:52

Thanks for the thread Raahh Thanks I was worried I had lost you all Grin
Not going well for ward at all, though his shirt is the top image on Twitter right now apparently!
I agree think France have the edge but it could be close and if everyone plays well....no doubt ward winning here would have helped though.

Raahh · 17/07/2015 14:29

1-0 France.

Afternoon mama

AC is confusing me- really biased during Wimbledon, yet here( where he should be expected to be partisan), he's actually pretty 50/50.

it's like Fleming is the British supporter, and AC has drawn the French strawGrin

this is a pretty close match.

but Tsonga is making too many errors.
