DAVIS CUP TENNIS- GB v FRANCE- Starts Friday 17th at 12pm

Raahh · 17/07/2015 09:54

First up is James Ward v Gilles Simon, followed by Andy Murray V Jo Willy Tsonga.

I think the French team are collectively stronger- although it seems an odd decision to leave Gasquet out of the opening matches, when he had such a good Wimbledon. GB are in the semi finals for the first time since 1981.

Here are the squads

Great Britain
Andy Murray (world number three)
Jamie Murray (world number 20 in doubles
James Ward (world number 89)
Dom Inglot (world number 40 in doubles

France.
Gilles Simon (world number 11)
Richard Gasquet (world number 13)
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (world number 12)
Nicolas Mahut (world number 22 in doubles)

All at the lovely Queen's club. Fingers crossed the weather is fine.

Angry I have been reading that Kyrgios has been at it again. Obnoxious man. Angry He is not a breath of fresh air, or a character , or any of the other rubbish his fans want to spout. He is a disgrace.

Hope Stan's back isn't too bad.

Raahh where did you read this? What happened? Just seen Stan having a rant on Twitter about Kyrios but can't find what happened so I came to MN Grin

Raahh · 13/08/2015 10:15

I saw a comment on fb, as I follow the Atp tour on there.

Stan was injured, and at one point Kyrgios made a comment that was picked up by the Mic that Kokkinakis had 'banged' his girlfriend. Stan is understandably not at all happy.

Glad to see he lost to Isner.

But there are still people defending him- he is 20, ffs. He is not a young kid. There is talk of him being banned- the fact he thinks it's all over, he's apologised and it should all blow over just shows what an arrogant man he is. Tennis will survive if he never plays again, even if his entourage are telling him otherwise.

(he makes me Ranty, can you tell?)

and wtf is all this 'sledge' business? is it 'yoof' for insult? < feels old>

His brother is a nasty piece of work too. Charming family he comes from. Hmm

I hope all those Commentators who were saying how good he is for tennis during Wimbledon have learned their lesson too!

BeckerLleytonnever · 14/08/2015 17:36

Between Kyrgios and Tomic. Aussies aren't having a good rep.

hope Kokinakis (LOVE that name!) isn't in that gang.

But look how many years Macenroe got away with obnoxious behaviour, NEVER AFAIK got fined/suspended.

Glad theyre doing it now though. and glad Isner won.

Tou doint need to be a brat to be an interesting successful player. look at Edberg. and Feds. and a couple of the women.

BTW listening today to a Cat Stevens song and we started to sing a tennis players name instead 'Lady D'arbanville' we ALWAYS sing 'David Nalbandian'. go on, try it Grin.

He was a character wasn't he? Tennis.

Raahh · 15/08/2015 09:37

Sad Nadal lost to Nishikori. I've never liked him....

Saw a lovely interview with Rafa talking about the Kyrgios incident where he was saying, actually, age isn't an excuse: he was on the tour at 16, Djokovic at 17 (unspoken implication: and we weren't such utter twats) and Kyrgios needs to show a bit more respect to other people. It makes me Grin - Rafa et al are only 8 or 9 years older than Kyrgios but sound about a thousand years wiser!

Thought Wawrinka handled it with a great deal of dignity actually; he's come out of it well. Did you see how badly Kyrgios got booed when he went out for his next match? It hasn't gone down well with anyone at all. Hewitt's got a job on his hands if he's getting involved in the Kyrgios camp.

BeckerLleytonnever · 16/08/2015 17:28

dh thinks I have lost the plot. Grin He spent ages yesterday setting up this chrome cast thingie so I could watch on BT sport; only to find it was wta only. Sad Stupid BT sport. I suppose sky has got the US open as well?

It did seem like it was good match and a great day for the Murray team.

There is a brilliant photo on the bbc website with Andy looking so fierce. Grin

Raahh · 18/08/2015 21:52

Have been catching up with Cincinnati- and am delighted to see Gasquet comprehensively beat Kyrgios.

I can't believe how quickly this year is going- it will soon be the US Open! Shock

Sad to see Ferrer still out of action. it's been ages. I hope he doesn't end up being a long term casualty, like Del Potro. Sad

Raahh · 20/08/2015 20:36

Djok had a bit of a scare in Cincy- lost the second set against Goffin, and was 3-0 down in the 3rd.

Came through in the end though.

Nadal up against Verdasco later- I'm a bit nervous about that one.

Well, it was Lopez, not Verdasco, obviously.

And I was right to be nervousSad

Being a Rafa fan is not much fun at the moment Sad.
