First up is James Ward v Gilles Simon, followed by Andy Murray V Jo Willy Tsonga.

I think the French team are collectively stronger- although it seems an odd decision to leave Gasquet out of the opening matches, when he had such a good Wimbledon. GB are in the semi finals for the first time since 1981.

Here are the squads

Great Britain
Andy Murray (world number three)
Jamie Murray (world number 20 in doubles
James Ward (world number 89)
Dom Inglot (world number 40 in doubles

France.
Gilles Simon (world number 11)
Richard Gasquet (world number 13)
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (world number 12)
Nicolas Mahut (world number 22 in doubles)

All at the lovely Queen's club. Fingers crossed the weather is fine.

I've just discovered this is on BBC2 today.

Gilles Simon a break up against Andy in the first set.

GrouchyKiwi · 19/07/2015 12:59

And whoever mentioned about the noise earlier in the thread: yes, it's incredible. I've never seen that in a tennis match before. It's weird. Grin

Raahh · 19/07/2015 13:14

I've just switched on to see Simon fall over.Sad

Why are they booing?

OP posts:
hugoagogo · 19/07/2015 13:21

Cause he knew Simon wouldn't be able to run for it. What's he supposed to do? Make it easy?Hmm

Raahh · 19/07/2015 13:24

I went into the kitchen and suddenly it all got noisy. Grin. I have to go out nowSad

Simon is playing so well. It was worrying when he fell over so I'm glad he's back on it.

Andy needs to step it up, find the shots. He was close on Simon's previous service game so should have the confidence.

GrouchyKiwi · 19/07/2015 13:59

Simon looks like he has recovered completely.

Disappointed by the amount of booing.

hugoagogo · 19/07/2015 14:02

Murray looks tired. Really not sure he should have played the doubles.

GrouchyKiwi · 19/07/2015 14:24

He does look exhausted.

Kind of proud he managed to claw those games back. 3 in a row will help his resolve.

hugoagogo · 19/07/2015 14:51

Wowee! Andy does have ballsGrin

GrouchyKiwi · 19/07/2015 15:11

Gilles losing it a bit. Normally I'd want a strong contest but I'd prefer it to be over sooner for tired Andy's sake.

GrouchyKiwi · 19/07/2015 15:12

And of course as soon as I say that, Gilles breaks back.

hugoagogo · 19/07/2015 16:12

Great big enormous Tennis

GrouchyKiwi · 19/07/2015 16:14

Huzzah!

Shame that Gilles feel again, though.

GrouchyKiwi · 19/07/2015 16:16

Or fell, even.

I read this thread with interest though I don't often post. I think it is interesting that the French said they did not play Gasquet because he was tired after his semi-final at Wimbledon. Poor lamb. Murray though also played a Wimbledon semi-final and then three back to back matches this weekend.

He was so weary he was running on fumes. Yet he came back from losing the first set and being 4-1 down in the second to take a tie break and go on to win (not withstanding Simon sadly hurt himself).

Murray is the best player Britain has had for decades by a country mile with a never say die attitude: I wish that those who don't like him because he can be a bit grumpy don't appreciate what a fine player he is and how he gives his all when he represents his country (whether that be Scotland or Britain). And that's without mentioning what he does for cancer charities etc.

"could appreciate" not "don't appreciate" Doh Blush

Raahh · 26/07/2015 09:58

Ooh!!!

I have just read that Dimitrov and Shrieky have split up. A bit sad, I suppose, but I always thought he could do betterGrin .

And Rafa is playing in Hamburg next week. That must be a late decision, it wasn't on his original schedule. So, Vamos!!! hopefully he will have a good week.

Rafa a set down already in Hamburg :(
Vamos!

Mama1980 · 28/07/2015 15:39

But just got a break so 2-0 up in the second, playing slightly better....

Raahh · 28/07/2015 15:48

I saw the score earlier- and have just looked again to see he is 4-0 up. Vamos! Was always going to be a tricky opener.

Raahh · 28/07/2015 16:33

phew! the next two sets much betterGrin . He just needed to warm up. I wish he didn't need to warm up. It is bad for my nerves. He really needs to do well this week.

OP posts:
Mama1980 · 28/07/2015 16:52

Definitely phew! He looked half asleep in the first set thankfully he woke up in time.
Agree he really needs to do well he needs the points ahead of the U.S.

Raahh · 28/07/2015 16:59

I know- or for half the top 10 to pull outGrin or he will be in the same dodgy position he was in at Wimbledon.

Of course, he is going to win in Montreal and Cincy- so he should be fine Grin
