Here - scroll down a bit.

There's Quinn. There's Saul. There's the old bag-over-the-head routine. It's in Berlin. I am ridiculously excited.

Hmm I found it a bit slow to be honest. And a bit clunky.

I'm a bit gutted - Quinn used to be my favourite TV crush, but I recently read an interview with him in the Guardian. The interviewer tried hard to say nice things, but it was really clear that Rupert Friend was a total arse and the interviewer really didn't like him. He came across as totally up himself.

Ruined Quinn for me!

GypsyFl0ss · 12/10/2015 20:44

All caught up here. Still in the Baddie Saul camp though Grin

Archfarchnad · 12/10/2015 20:53

Hmm, I've never watched this, but as a longstanding Berliner it's always fun trying to spot where something's been filmed. Is it worth trying to catch up after missing so many series, or will it be frankly incomprehensible?

UnGoogleable · 12/10/2015 20:59

Archfarchnad (enw da, gyda llaw ;)

I think you could pick it up, because each season's story is new. It's just the underlying relationships that you might not know about. But I find Wikipedia great for that, you can get plot synopses on there to catch up quickly.

And all you need to know is:
Carrie does an epic cry face
Quinn is hot
Saul is GOOOOOOD!!!!!
Dar Salieri is unknown and unknowable!

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 12/10/2015 21:01

I thought Quinn wanted out last series? I know he got sucked back in because of Carrie but I can't understand why he's suddenly reverted to killing machine mode again? I might have a slight gap in my recall on last series but his switch seems more like a plot device to set him up to (possibly) have Carrie as a hit somewhere down the line.

ThursdayLastWeek · 12/10/2015 21:10

Ok I caught up.

I really feel my enjoyment of this episode would have been enhanced if I could remember more of the latter stages of last series. I looked a lot like this --> Confused

But THANK YOU this thread for telling me that lady in Eowyn, I couldn't put my finger on who it was. And I agree, her hair is fabulous

Lweji · 12/10/2015 21:14

Maybe this series will slowly fill in the gaps for the last 2 years?

I think it's watchable on its own. Unless a certain ginger male suddenly appears. In which case you may need a bit of background.

GypsyFl0ss · 12/10/2015 21:20

Archfarchnad if you can watch season one it's very well done and incredibly nerve wracking at times. It also explains Carrie's obsession with gingers!

ThursdayLastWeek · 12/10/2015 21:21

Yeah, I hoped that's what they were be aiming for Lweji - almost stand alone. I'm glad, because otherwise my memory is shot to shit!

DH did joke that Brodie was going to walk out of the darkness in that underground scene Grin

Archfarchnad · 12/10/2015 21:29

ooh, thanks, OK, I'll see if I can find season 1 on YouTube etc and get some background.

"Unless a certain ginger male suddenly appears." Man or cat?

UnGoogleable, diolch!

Lweji · 12/10/2015 21:33

A Brodie. Grin

oneowlgirl · 12/10/2015 22:01

I thought this episode was quite dull & clunky really. Hope it gets better!

HalleLouja · 12/10/2015 22:02

I have to say I really enjoyed yesterday but am missing Zaf. He was proper totty. Though Carrie's new brodie man might fit that hole.

I too have completely forgotten the last series. I remember there was a boy Carrie seduced and Zaf. Plus the ambassador and her dodgy husband. Plus the hot female spy trying to bring down Carrie....

MrsJorahMormont · 12/10/2015 22:13

Yeah I wish I had rewatched the end of last season as I feel like I missed out on the politics between Saul and Salieri.

Quinn certainly had a lean and hungry look about him. He needs to go back and live with that nice fat lass again, she'll feed him up. Better yet he can come and live with this fat lass right here and I'll feed him up unless it's my Haagen Dazs in which case he can fend for himself :o

Roll on next week!

Hassled · 12/10/2015 22:58

I'm feeling the need to re-watch Season 1 again - that was the best season, I think. And it's been long enough now that I've forgotten enough, IYSWIM.

Travelledtheworld · 12/10/2015 23:42

Signing in here for another season.
Excited to see Quinn in window sill climbing murdering glory.
Brodie baby is cute.
Saul looking very sharp and quite sparky.

Carrie still gets on my nerves and why doesn't she get a less dangerous job ?

I agree with you Google. I also read that Guardian article and Rupert does seem to be a total dick head IRL.

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 12/10/2015 23:55

Saul looked like an angry man. The beard no longer equals niceness IMO. He was quite cutting with Carrie. I think he'll lose it at some point.

Fiderer · 13/10/2015 05:39

Saul is frequently angry with Carrie for her own good.

The CIA head is as much a political appointment and I reckon Salieri plays the game better than Saul. Clunky though cos it seems like they demoted him (unrealistically) just so he has a valid reason to go to Europe Hmm Salieri must have been riding high after his deal with the baddie in S4.

Series 1 was really very good. It was the 1st time I'd watched anything compulsively with back-to-back episodes.

GypsyFl0ss · 13/10/2015 05:55

Season one is on Netflix. Everytime I open it I seee the photo of Brodie, Carrie & Saul and my heart speeds up a little. Perhaps we need a group rewatch? Grin

ihatethecold · 13/10/2015 07:01

I seem to remember that last season took a while to get going.

deadwitchproject · 13/10/2015 10:50

Oh no I thought I spotted Max Beesley too in the trailer. I cannot stand him. Go away.

Much prefer Saul with his beard nicely trimmed although tbf he'd couldn't keep up with his ablutions when held prisoner in Pakistan So Saul is now head of European operations and Dar has the top seat...hmm

Quinn looks burnt out. He's combat weary and probably slightly mad so is willing to kill anyone on Saul's shit list.

Carrie loves her red heads and Brody baby is still scarily like Brody. I just knew Carrie was going to get bundled into a van when she went after the bike lock woman and sure enough...

Hot boyfriend, stupid journalist, all in all a good opener, can't wait for the rest.

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 13/10/2015 11:54

You'd think from all Carrie's experience she'd have realised straight away the bike woman was up to something. No wonder Saul gets pissed off with her Grin She's supposed to be trained to spot dodgy shit. Yet she shouted at bike woman twice about her 'mix up'.

Duckdeamon · 13/10/2015 14:18

Constant vigilance must get tiring after a while though, especially when combined with life with a toddler and a hot redhead bf!

Agree that if she'd really wanted out of danger, family life etc. she wouldn't be still working in this kind of thing and agreeing to visit a dangerous place at 3 days' notice, although it's plausible that she wants to please her boss and hang onto the job since she has a good set up in Germany and presumably no visa apart from through work.

Cocolepew · 13/10/2015 20:38

Hooray! Just caught up and I loved it. Never understood a bloody thing but thats usual for me.
I still want to slap Carrie mind you.
Think its just me and you Gypsy in the SIB (Saul is bad) camp.

GypsyFl0ss · 14/10/2015 05:51

Yep but at least we stand true and firm Coco. The day will come , in season 30, when we will be able to nod sagely and say " see, we were right all along!" Grin
