Here - scroll down a bit.

There's Quinn. There's Saul. There's the old bag-over-the-head routine. It's in Berlin. I am ridiculously excited.

OP posts:
ihatethecold · 18/10/2015 22:34

How come the lady that Quinn shot at the petrol station knew his name?

TheSpottedZebra · 18/10/2015 22:48

She didn't - badger had the subtitles on and she said Bitte, ie please, not Peter.
Confusing!

Lweji · 18/10/2015 22:57

The station chief is a bitch, but I don't think she has it in her to be this subtle. Unless she actually acted to let her server be hacked.

I'd be more inclined to Brodie 2. As in a plant and sleeper agent. But on whose orders???

Did we ever find out who blew up the CIA headquarters? And tried to blame it on Brodie? (or did he?)

Impoetantly, why kill her? What does she know? Whose way is she on?

And that's a crap assassination order system. Imagine if it was another Mathison.
Will it become like Brangelina and Mr and Mrs Smith?

PseudoBadger · 18/10/2015 22:59

Did you note the reference to Angelina tonight?

EmNetta · 18/10/2015 23:03

Thanks for all the explanations and theories, especially to Surly Cue of course, but I find it hard to believe that Saul would message Quinn about Mathis rather than Carrie, as they both use first name. It seems more likely to me that someone else sent Quinn the message (although I do like the "code").

SurlyCue · 18/10/2015 23:12

Did we ever find out who blew up the CIA headquarters? And tried to blame it on Brodie? (or did he?)

I think i remember it being explained as some of Abu Nazir's guys.

I find it hard to believe that Saul would message Quinn about Mathis rather than Carrie, as they both use first name.

I agree, i dont think Saul made that drop. So does that mean Saul has been deliberately delayed/detained? We didnt see any of him towards the end of the episode did we?

SurlyCue · 18/10/2015 23:15

Yes i noticed angelina reference. I'm assuming Jolie? How did she manage that? Confused they dont usually name drop celebs do they? Is there A RL connection between beesley and jolie?

Travelledtheworld · 18/10/2015 23:28

Tense episode but that suicide bomber was so predictable.
That Berlin Station chief is jealous of Carrie. Very unprofessional.

I don't think Quinn will kill Carrie either.

Lweji · 19/10/2015 06:09

The suicide bomber was a distraction so they'd rush towards the exit and the other bomb. He wasn't even using a dead man's switch.
But Carrie's spider senses were still on.

Fiderer · 19/10/2015 07:57

The newspaper code was a lovely bit of old-fashioned tradecraft, reminded me of Le Carré's Moscow Rules.

Why go to all that trouble to kill Carrie? Surely whoever's behind it could afford a flight to Berlin and knock her off her bike. Or be there already & lock it like the woman did last week and kidnap her. It would be seen as a revenge killing for her CIA life. And no one would care (I wouldn't) but Quinn and Saul and we'd have more of them and less of her frowny face.

ThursdayLastWeek · 19/10/2015 07:58

I was sure that the person going into The Deutsch Post building was Saul - are you suggesting it wasn't?

I didn't notice the Angelina reference, can anyone illuminate?

As so often with Homeland the more I watch the less I know Confused

NashvilleQueen · 19/10/2015 08:31

You only saw him from behind. Funnily enough I thought the gait was a bit odd at the time. Can't imagine Saul has sent Quinn to kill Carrie. It doesn't make sense. I agree either someone else left the code for him or it means he is to go and help her out. Quite enjoyed this episode.

SurlyCue · 19/10/2015 09:19

Angelina reference: when carrie ane beesley arrived at the refugee camp and were introducing themselves to the security guy he said to beesley that he he remembered him being there with angelina. I'm guessing jolie because she is big on humanitarian issues so its plausible she visited. I'm just not at all sure why they did a name drop. Confused they dont usually do that do they?

xSummerStarsx · 19/10/2015 09:57

Honestly, I know it wouldn’t be a TV show if she didn’t, but when she wouldn’t get on the plane and said she was going to go back, I wanted to scream. Angry Angry It’s SO ridiculous, like you’d go back at all, let alone on your own!

I guessed the Carrie being on Quinn’s hit list thing last episode, it wouldn’t be much of a storyline over the coming episodes if he DIDN’T try and kill her would it? And re someone else planting her name, I admit, I was squinting at the screen to see if it was Saul, however, surely Quinn could just ring Saul and be like ‘WTF, you want me to kill Carrie?!’ and if it wasn’t Saul who planted her name he would say ‘eh, no?’ Though that would be too simple for Homeland. Also, I actually do think Saul could want to kill Carrie. He thinks she gave information to journalist women and is still a liability. They’ve fallen out…why not get rid of her?

Arghhhh….my nerves were all on edge! Grin Grin

Lweji · 19/10/2015 11:09

Yes, because after all that trouble with lockers, burn out phones and coded messages, he'd just ring Saul about it. Grin

Lweji · 19/10/2015 11:19

I think it does make sense for her to get to the bottom of it, even though it will be hard.
Even at that time, assuming they wanted to kill her boss, they'd just go and do the same in Berlin.

SurlyCue · 19/10/2015 11:26

Yes! This is the bit i was cringeing at. It was so badly written. They just shoehorned it in with no legitimate, believeable reason.

xSummerStarsx · 19/10/2015 12:17

Saul knows that Quinn and Carrie had a professional relationship, he may even have noticed that they had developed a soft spot for each other. I don’t think he’d be surprised if Quinn were to somehow get in contact to question this assassination, personally.

Fiderer · 19/10/2015 12:41

I think the boyfriend may be a baddie.

ThursdayLastWeek · 19/10/2015 12:50

I'm sure we saw Saul walking back to the car? It sure looked like him to me, even with a hat on - I was peering!

Thanks, I didn't hear that Angelina ref at all - you're right, it doesn't seem like them Confused

Lweji · 19/10/2015 13:19

I think I'll take a look at the episode again and go frame by frame on whoever left that message.
Which is not to say that if Saul did leave an order, that someone else didn't replace it afterwards.

Lweji · 19/10/2015 13:30

Interesting take from, supposedly, a spy expert blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2015/10/11/homeland-season-5-episode-2-an-intelligence-expert-weighs-in/

ThursdayLastWeek · 19/10/2015 13:33

No, while I'm certain the person I saw going into the building was Saul, I'm far from certain that that was the message he left.
I'm firmly in the Saul is GOOD camp Grin

I'm also a fan of Eowyn too, BTW. I know she was being a sneaky bitch, but I'd like to think that's what I'd do in her situation too. I mean, she's right - Saul would be protecting Carrie wouldn't he?

GypsyFl0ss · 19/10/2015 16:01

Just caught up. Well that was exciting!
How come it took Quinn until the last letter to recognise the name of his unrequited love though?

Cocolepew · 19/10/2015 19:04

Im with Thursday, Im sure it was Saul walking back. He had a beanie hat on but there was definitely a beard.
