Corrie Thread - Bet Emily is relieved there is one less child for her 24 hour creche

With Miley gone, never to be heard of for the next 15 years until she turns up with a new head, at least Emily won't have to babysit her every day and night for the foreseeable future.

New thread where we can hope the scriptwriters wake up and actually start paying attention to plot lines and character histories.

i agree Agatha about Alya talking down to people. Why would people who've been there years let some young upstart speak like that to them. I really can't see the need for her in the factory anyway.

AgathaChristie01 · 04/08/2015 18:26

Exactly tarashill.
I've noticed it previously, about her, snotty little biddy, IMO.

Presumably she is pregnant, even though she said she wasn't, yawn.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 04/08/2015 21:26

I am beginning to think Corrie's only way out of the mess they are in with characters and lack of plot is to have Audrey wake up and realise the last year or two was a terrible dream.

I'd agree with that Anne haha!

AgathaChristie01 · 05/08/2015 07:12

Oh I'd love that Anne, and as she is waking up, they are shown fading away, never to darken the cobbles again...

Jo4040 · 05/08/2015 07:41

Yeah and Audrey is sat on a bed saying 'And you was there...and you was there..." Like when Dorothy wakes up out of the wizard of OZ Grin

hildasmuriel · 05/08/2015 10:53

Audrey wakes up and we go back to the 70s when women were strong, storylines were focused on characters not ridiculous dramas, everybody drank mild or stout, Tracey lived upstairs and Maria had a personality.

AgathaChristie01 · 05/08/2015 11:32

Just imagining Michael, Callum, Bethany, Sarah, Callum, Alya and family fading into the distance, never to reappear.

I'm sure there are more, but if they disappeared, it would be a great start.

tarashill · 05/08/2015 12:07

Today's scriptwriters should be forced to watch Corrie from yesteryear. Make them sit in a room for a day and watch the likes of Elsie Tanner, Hilda and Stan, Ena Sharples, Annie Walker, Bet Lynch, Deirdre and Blanche......no big dramatic scenes, just ordinary people living ordinary lives, there wasn't any kidnappings, murders, blackmail....or any of the other stupid unbelievable storylines we're expected to swallow, just characters that we slowly got to know who were believable and we cared about them, there was humour, they made you never want to miss a single episode.
Now we get the ridiculousness of Sarah, Bethany, Callum and many more. Corrie really has lost the plot.

AgathaChristie01 · 05/08/2015 12:32

I'm making my way through the dvd of 80's and 90's episodes just now, and enjoying every minute. Believable characters, proper storylines, I'm wallowing in nostalgia, and loving every minute of it.

Mike dealing with Ivy, Vera and the rest, on the factory floor. Bet and Betty behind the bar at the Rovers. Deirdre working for Alf. Mavis and Rita. Phyllis permanently in pursuit of Percy. Gail and Our Brian, and so on.

No comparison to the current tripe.

tarashill · 05/08/2015 13:17

I love to do that Agatha, it does make you nostalgic doesn't it. I loved certain people together, Annie Walker and Bet Lynch, Hilda and Annie, Mavis and Rita, Blanche and Ken.......they were like comedy pairings, today's rubbish just can't compare.

tarashill · 05/08/2015 13:23

Oh yes, our Brian and Ivy who was a bit like the MIL from hell with Gail. So watchable and so identifiable. Always laughed the way Ivy said "our Brian" Smile

AgathaChristie01 · 05/08/2015 13:38

It's so enjoyable, tarashill. Yes, 'Our Brian', and 'the kiddies' were staples of Ivy's conversation. The Gail of that time would make mincemeat of the Gail of now. It's awful to see what they have done to her character. I wonder does Helen Worth cringe, at what they have made her, or just close her mind to it, for the sake of her contract.

Fred Gee was another great character. I watched the episode recently where he, Bet and Betty went off a drive, and ended up in a lake. Mrs Walker wasn't best pleased. Grin

Jack and Vera were just brilliant too, so believable, so funny, but also capable of carrying such sad scenes. The one where Vera discovers that Terry has sold the child to the other grandparents is as heartbreaking, no matter how often I watch it, as it was the first time I saw it, all those years ago.

tarashill · 05/08/2015 13:55

Oh the lake episode with Fred and Bet and Betty sat in the car. Corrie at its finest. The attention to detail in those days, Gail's name for her mum was always mam, "Oh mam" she'd say. Hilda singing while cleaning in the Rovers with Annie raising her eyes to the ceiling. Little things like that endeared them to us didn't they.

Jo4040 · 05/08/2015 16:26

I think I was still an egg in my mums ovaries when all this was going on... My first memory of corrie is Rakell walking out on curly? I'd have been about five having an early night Smile when. I saw this.

I know Nick isn't popular on here but I like him and loved the scenes with him and Carla today. I wish I could be like Carla minus the self-destruct button she has.

Jo4040 · 06/08/2015 14:28

Question. Why is the coronation Street thread so much more busier and active than the Emmerdale thread?!

Bonkers!!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 06/08/2015 15:29

Great list Hilda! Grin
