OK, after freaking the bejaysus out of me with the weird trailer / advert I am intrigued and looking forward to giving this programme a viewing.

(I will have to record and watch later as I will be watching Messrs Strange and Norrell.)

Anyone else looking forward to it and hoping it lives up to the hype?

I was kind of hoping for a more downbeat tragic ending, as in we expect the synths to all be saved but then they aren't and Hobb has the code or whatever to carry on dark deeds. Just occasionally I would like to see evil triumph over good. Smile

I suppose they had to cliffhang for a second series, but not the best episode of the series. I will look forward to seeing the next one then.

mistyegg · 02/08/2015 23:18

How did Hobb recover so quickly from being shot by Fred?

2rebecca · 02/08/2015 23:20

I only saw this one but am glad I didn't sit through the others. It was all a bit earnest. I really dislike the woman playing the over sympathetic mumsy character though. Prefer blade runner. Colin Morgan was good but it was all a bit wet

BitOfFun · 02/08/2015 23:25

Mistyegg, because it was a stun-gun, I think.

RealHuman · 02/08/2015 23:25

I can't believe they were happy to leave the secret of synth consciousness in the hands of a woman who thinks you can break the internet by typing Google into Google.

LouisaJF · 02/08/2015 23:31

I might be a million miles off but I wondered if Niska is after a baby. The only time she displayed any vaguely warm or human qualities was playing with the little girl.

The comments about Karen's scar made me think that she is another 50/50 synth. Maybe David resurrected Leo's actual mother but because he rejected her, he's never had chance to find out.

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/08/2015 23:37

But what about Odi??? Sad

Ellle · 02/08/2015 23:55

The ending in "Real Humans" was the downbeat tragic one. At least Leo didn't die in this one. I was hoping they would change that and they did.

RealHuman · 03/08/2015 00:13

Damn, I was planning on watching that after Humans finished. I really should be more careful about avoiding spoilers.

Gruach · 03/08/2015 00:28

Oh I'm so relieved. Nobody died and darling Max has been restored to me.

I liked this episode. No cliched ducking and diving and dying, no running around with guns, lots of stuff set up for the next series.

And - as they already knew there would be a Series Two we might even get all the same characters back.

Why did Mia take small what'sface out in the middle of the night?

Kitella · 03/08/2015 01:04

Louisa - I wondered that too. There were a couple of points tonight where Karen looked like she had tears in her eyes. But in an earlier episode, Niska told Sophie that Synth can't cry. So either I've imagined the wet eyes, or there might be a hint of something else there. (Of course,it could also be that as the last synth, he had developed her to be able to cry).

I found tonight's episode Enjoyable. Not as good as previous episodes, but I'll certainly be watching series 2.

TweeBee · 03/08/2015 07:00

Yes Gruach, why indeed? Was very strange because it wasn't like she was really looking after her, she didn't do anything to keep her dry as I remember.
I was a bit disappointed too. Partly I think because them all going to that tree in their minds seemed a bit daft. I understand it was to get the code to give consciousness but I don't get how that actually works.
The ending was quite good though. I think I have enjoyed the series because it wasn't clear what was happening at first - were synths good or bad, who was a synth etc. I suppose the next series will be more will she / Wong she with Niska.

TweeBee · 03/08/2015 07:01

Or even, will she / won't she....

TweeBee · 03/08/2015 07:04

RealHuman: ha! That must be how they knew she couldn't misuse it Smile

Merrylegs · 03/08/2015 07:30

Yes, typical Jen - here's a really important bit of computer type hardware. I know, I'll store it in my knitwear.... (Except of course Niska has probably given her a dud).

Gah, again, wish it could have been a little bit more mind-blowing at the end. Also where were they actually all going?'Niska on the random train to...where? Back to the woods for Mia and co? ,Fred under a blanket? And detective synth and copper? Where were they walking off to? It all seemed so....inconsequential. They had so much potential these synths and actually in the end didn't really amount to much. I hate series endings which basically just set the scene for a new series. Next series needs to be much cleverer.

SoupDragon · 03/08/2015 08:27

The other ones had a look that Niska and Karen didn't, so it was hard to put them in the synth category at times.

I thought there were times in this episode where it was blindingly obvious Karen was a Sunth - and not a conscious one either. On was where she was looking at Leo in the cell and then turned abruptly and stslked rigidly out. Nothing like when she was the police officer (although I thought she looked synth like at moments then too)

SoupDragon · 03/08/2015 08:29

I understand it was to get the code to give consciousness but I don't get how that actually works.

I imagine you just upload the code into the synth's programming.

midnightvelvetPart2 · 03/08/2015 08:36

I dislike Leo, the arrogant pouting manchild , was hoping he'd meet a sticky end tonight!

So glad Max is back though, was wanting a happy end for Odi as well. Fred makes me uneasy.

Was a good series, I enjoyed it although in full mn mode I do want Lauren to ltb! Grin

midnightvelvetPart2 · 03/08/2015 08:37

Laura sorry, autocorrect!

Gruach · 03/08/2015 10:03

It's true that Leo, pulling the coaxing child face to persuade his "mother", did look a little like a cartoon cat pleading for another tin of food.

So - for the next series we have

Fred - still rogue? Poor thing. Easily found and will become Hobb's slave.

Niska? (Phone says ninja.) I guess she won't want to return to the commercial pleasure industry. She has infinite choice.

Beatrice (?) has a sort of happy ever after if Hobb and co don't out her. None of her other colleagues know she's a synth. (Though in reality I don't see how it wouldn't now show up in records.)

Leo, Mia, Max hmm ... Hard to say. Max has found religion - imagine him as a charismatic preacher? The other two didn't seem to have any further ambitions beyond being free.

Surely, surely Odi will be preserved for the next series?

BitOfFun · 03/08/2015 10:24

Odi is dead. He died with George. Sad

SoupDragon · 03/08/2015 10:26

Odi didn't die with George. He was supposedly taken off for recycling but there is the slight possibility that someone realised he had George's memories and perhaps some of them were important ones.

gingercat12 · 03/08/2015 10:51

MadeMan "Just occasionally I would like to see evil triumph over good." Are you watching too much Game of Thrones? Grin

SoupDragon IKWYM Karen became a total synth by the end, while she was blending in with people quite well to start with. Reverse-Darwinism I guess.

I liked the episode last night, but it was quite silly. Why bother with code and everything when they have the nuclear option: Leo just stares into anyone's eyes and they do whatever he wants them to. It worked on Karen / Beatrice (and me Blush).

I'll have to watch Real Humans now.

MissBattleaxe · 03/08/2015 11:11

I dislike Leo, the arrogant pouting manchild , was hoping he'd meet a sticky end tonight!

But that could be deliberate- he technically died when he was thirteen so he may have some sort of arrested development going on.

And dreamy blue eyes....sorry, where was I?

MadeMan · 03/08/2015 11:18

"Are you watching too much Game of Thrones?"

I've not seen any Game of Thrones; is evil always winning in that then? Smile
