OK, after freaking the bejaysus out of me with the weird trailer / advert I am intrigued and looking forward to giving this programme a viewing.

(I will have to record and watch later as I will be watching Messrs Strange and Norrell.)

Anyone else looking forward to it and hoping it lives up to the hype?

i thought the synths had different eyes and moved differently.... but apparently not?! I was really surrprised that axe-murderer-synth has transitioned so easily and not been recognised as a synth.

I loved the episode though! I'm really enjoying it but hoping it really builds up rather than has a wet ending!

SoupDragon · 06/07/2015 19:15

Axe-Murderer Synth is one of the specially modified ones though. I think they are designed to be human.

Leo has to be at least part synth as he plugged himself into the laptop to run the programme downloaded from Anita/Mia's mind.

SoupDragon · 06/07/2015 19:16

I thought maybe Leo was the next step on. He had to be plugged in after he was beaten up didn't he. Even though he bled proper blood.

TweeBee · 06/07/2015 19:31

Italian, sorry I don't know how to quote or anything. Leo said his name, then the mumbly Man said something like 'so and so's son? But he died.'
And Leo said 'I know'
Dun dun dun!
So the gist was that Leo is the son of a man who worked on the synths and that Leo died.

Italiangreyhound · 06/07/2015 20:17

Thanks TweeBee your hearing is better than mine!

Furball · 06/07/2015 21:06

Italiangreyhound - I did say later on that I typed reporter but meant detective.

Apologies if I've confused you all

AGnu · 06/07/2015 21:19

My thinking is that Dr Robot wanted to experiment with sentient synths, George didn't so he left the project. Dr Robot continued on & secretly created Mia et al. Then his son died, possibly with Mia pulling him from an underwater car, & Dr Robot discovered he could use technology to revive him. Leo must have a bionic brain to have been able to plug himself in & run the hidden program. I'm intrigued to discover whether Leo has aged since then. George commented that he was too young to have know Dr Robot which makes me think not but then surely George would've recognised him if he'd been around when he was growing up.

Niska put coloured contact lenses in to hide her green eyes & it seems that all sentient synths can move in a mostly human-like manner but most can also hide behind the synth behaviours to protect themselves.

I'm wondering if Mia is conscious inside Anita but unable to properly control the synth behaviours. She seemed to hate the mum when she first arrived but has started being more thoughtful towards her now. If she has a separate consciousness then she'll still remember the sex despite him having told her to delete it - will she tell Laura or will she find some passive-aggressive way to punish Joe?

I assume Tom was her brother who died & she blames herself. It's possible there was a synth involved somehow which would explain her dislike of them I, Robot style.

It is a bit of a slow story but I'm quite enjoying it. I think that's what makes it seem so creepy almost possible - aside from the walking-talking robots, everything else is familiar to us.

SoupDragon · 06/07/2015 22:40

Did George just leave his damaged synth in the woods? I felt sorry for him.

SouthWestmom · 06/07/2015 23:01

I missed the first one. Who is Mia?

Trills · 06/07/2015 23:04

Mia is who Anita used to be.

SouthWestmom · 06/07/2015 23:08

Cheers. As a human?

Trills · 06/07/2015 23:15

Probably not.

As far as we know, synths are physically different to humans.

They don't need to eat, and in fact can't eat. They bleed blue. They need charging.

It does not seem likely to me that synths are "made from" humans.

Leo running around in the woods had a bunch of friends who were synths that were conscious. Mia was one of those. Probably. Then she got kidnapped and wiped. But maybe not wiped all the way.

Leo seems to have both human and synth characteristics.

SouthWestmom · 07/07/2015 00:11

Thanks Trills that's the missing bit.

Italiangreyhound · 07/07/2015 00:33

Agnu that is a brilliant analysis. I think you are spot on.

SoupDragon yes, exactly like the family did with David in AI (I hated that bloody film!) grrrrrr.

Agree with Trills they can't be human (IMHO)

For me the whole issue - eluded to by the woman with her theatre gong synth is what 'human' rights they should have, and whether they will end up more human than us, or making us more human.

I know I keep harping back but the water bit with Anita/Mia is just too similar to I Robot!!

Italiangreyhound · 07/07/2015 00:35

theatre going synth.

It's also one of those cautionary tales designed to make us not make robots! I for one am heeding that word!

(So creepy the way Anita had to ask to use the bathroom to 'clean up')

Furball · 07/07/2015 05:20

That whole scene was creepy, I'm surprised he managed to do anything as he might as well been shagging a hole in the floor as Anita was just led there looking away. Very weird.

Trills · 07/07/2015 07:46

The woman going to the theatre had a regular non-conscious synth.

She demonstrated how much humans have the ability to ascribe human emotions and thoughts to non-humans (like people do with their dogs).

BUT his response to the question of fear allowed Laura to see that Anita was different.

IUseAnyName · 07/07/2015 16:01

Yeah I think it's only Leo who is humam/synth

BagelwithButter · 07/07/2015 19:46

The end bit finding out that the police detective is a modified sunth is intriguing - who did the modifications so she can eat and drink?

BagelwithButter · 07/07/2015 19:52

*synth

oneowlgirl · 07/07/2015 21:02

Good question Bagel!

Trills · 07/07/2015 21:45

She can only pretend to eat and drink and hold it in a bag - probably any synth could do that but who gave her the IDEA to do it?

MadeMan · 07/07/2015 21:55

"I'm surprised he managed to do anything as he might as well been shagging a hole in the floor as Anita was just led there looking away."

Yeah the 18+ mode just seems to be a "get on with it then" mode.

Italiangreyhound · 08/07/2015 00:38

Trills do you think that the inspector synth is having ideas or is someone 'running' her.

Anita is a stunning looking 'woman' i can't quite see how she equates to a hole in the floor!

Furball · 08/07/2015 06:16

Because she was just lying there legs akimbo and looking away. with no participation from her

But yes she is stunning and an amazing figure
