TENNIS Thread! The French Open is coming- will it be #RG10 for Rafa?

Raahh · 18/05/2015 16:19

or number 1 for Djokovic?

given recent form, things look less than great for Nadal-but he likes the big stage and slams are a different beast to other tournaments.

So- new thread to talk ( mostly) about tennis- though it's not compulsory.Grin, and we all have different favourites and respect that others might not love our favourites as much as we do.

so...a week to go. May Murray be less tired, Rafa more confident , and a happy tournament be had by all.

Vamos

Pseudo fed summed it up twitter.com/pseudofed/status/601694635476570112 (his position in the draw that is).

Raah have you always been djok fan or am I getting you muddled with someone else?

It's reverse psychology. Maybe Rafa will do better if I am supporting not really someone else Grin

Purple, we are giving reverse psychology a go Wink as none of our support, swearing or shouting vamos has done much good Grin
Fed must be loving his draw.
Both Rafa and Novak have a tough draw still think it's a pity they will (fingers crossed) meet so early.

I'm very excited about the start of this. It's my second favourite GS. I just hope I actually get to watch some!

It is also my second fave - am assuming that Wimbledon is your first? (It's mine)

magi it is. I know it's summer when Wimbledon is on. Even if it is raining. Grin

I like the US and the Aus, but they are the ones I don't get chance to see much of, as I don't have Sky etc. The last few years I have been able to watch thanks to the internet, but rarely saw much before (only when the Beeb saw fit to show them if a Brit did well- like Rusedski against Rafter at the US. I wanted Rafter to win.Grin).

Wimbledon is the Crown of my year.

Every January it gets blanked out in the calendar as the time when I am not available.

About 3 years ago DS asked DIL to marry him & I asked when they were thinking of having the wedding. The reply came:

"May or June next year, Mum - but don't worry it won't be during Wimbledon - cos I know you won't be there!!".

I have always booked time off during Wimbledon, too.
When we got married, it was the softball season we had to avoid thoughHmm.
Annoyingly the local village festival still insist on having it on the middle Saturday of Wimbledon. The dcs are invariably involved in some way, so i have to go. And it rains.
It is also that weekend that dh goes to Leeds. For softball.
I may have get myself on the festival committee and get it moved to the middle of July. Grin

Adding to my ever growing list of 'interesting' stats- apparently, Agassi and Federer both won at RG on their 11th attempt.

it will be Djok's 11th attempt this fortnight....

Go Djok Wink

Hey all - thanks for new thread raahh. I think you need to spend 2 weeks planted in front of tv for toe to recover :)

I have to go to Wales for 3 days this coming week which will interfere with my tennis watching :( Still, very excited for it all to kick off. Can't believe it's come round already.

Forgot to say that I love Fabrice, looking forward very much to his commentary :)

Also - little Dom won in Nice! So pleased for him. Should give him a nice burst of confidence for FO.

hello Juan !

yes- good win for Dom.

Stan in action later- will be wanting to avoid a repeat of last year and his first round defeat.

Morning. Roger looking very fetching in pink and purple.

Remind me next time I have insomnia to listen to Jim Courier commentating, I'll be asleep in no time :)

Courier does go on, doesn't he? Nothing like a discourse on racquet tension to liven up proceedingsGrin

It is a lovely shade of purple- not so sure about the pink shorts.

Of course, the real fashion statement of the day is to come. Will Stan have ironed his shirt?Grin

Falla was giving this a good shot- but it wasn't going to last.

They were discussing Gulbis and his complete loss of form after beating Roger here last year. I have a soft spot for the grumpy one. I hope he does well.

I think the answer to your question about Satan's shirt is "no"! Did you see that article where they were making much of the fact his first round opponent is called Ilhan and his estranged wife is Ilham (or have I got that the wrong way round?). Talk about a non - story.

I quite like the pink shorts - they're very bright though.

Yes, very much a scraping the barrel story.

The stripe down the back of Fed's shirt makes him look very sweaty. Grin

Didn't notice the Stan/Satan autocorrect! Also didn't realise the stripe was a stripe - it very much does look like sweat. My eyes are evidently not to be relied on!
