I have the opposite problem and have become too lazy at work! Blush

Sure you'll come back to it eventually - I'll be a happy reader when you do!

Richtea19 · 20/05/2015 19:24

woof so pleased I waited u til I got home to read your latest! So funny. I feel the need for it to be made into a mini series, the best comedy! The Strike Back boys would obviously need my full attention!

Really can't get my head around the HP FF, but could be tempted by the FSOGrey.... Grin

Date for your diary 3rd June Sky1 @ 9pm. The Strike Back boys are back for season 5, yipppeeeeeeeeee

Rhubarb01 · 20/05/2015 19:29

I had a brief look at the HP FF link. My problems with it are firstly I've never read any of the books and have only ever seen one film all the way through (Deathly Hallows part 1 at cinema with DD - she was very embarrassed by me when I whispered loudly near the beginning "who's the bloke with no nose") so as you can guess I'm not really into HP much. Apart from that I have the same complaint as others - it just seems wrong to do this with what is effectively a great kid's book.

I was reading about the legalities of FF at the weekend and it's interesting that there's so much HP erotica because originally JKR took out injunctions etc on that type of stuff and got it removed from sites who posted it. The other interesting and slightly disturbing fact I uncovered is that disclaimers written at the top of stories have no value at all. Any originator can demand the removal of stuff or sue for copyright if they wish. Fanfic only exists because the originators of books, films etc allow it to exist. Apparently even original characters created by a writer can't be claimed as your own unless they can exist independent of the framework of the original story etc. The example given was you can't create an original Avatar character and claim it belongs to you because you didn't create Avatars in the first place. Food for thought but I guess that TG and the BBC a) no that there's a load of OG FF out there and b)probably don't mind because it just helps increase interest in the programme.

Onlygirljen · 20/05/2015 20:19

rhubarb the legalities of ff is an interesting one. The online articles about copyright infringement mainly refer to US law, where there are more defences and exceptions to a breach of copyright. Recent case law in the US has been progressively moving towards allowing 'transformative' works to exist, ie ones which transform the original work into something entirely new. In the UK, the only current defence is 'fair use' and it's a much narrower defence than its US counterpart - it essentially only covers reviews and criticisms which cite original material. Interestingly, the US also has a parody exception (so SPO and woof would be fine Grin) whereas the UK doesn't, although there is EU legislation which arguably could incorporate the defence into uk law indirectly. All in all, it's a distinctly grey area, and it's one where it seems very likely that the law will progress given the current uncertainty.

I'm pretty sure that TV writers in particular are aware that works of ff only serve to maintain an interest in their show, and that to do anything about that would alienate a section of their fanbase.

Sorry to drone on about legalities! I'm off to read woofs latest and stop myself getting too serious!

Onlygirljen · 20/05/2015 20:20

PS - we are getting dangerously close to the 1000 post mark, any sign of icemist?!

Rhubarb01 · 20/05/2015 20:26

Actually, I nearly added to my post the Esther Rantzen quote "unless of course, you know different!" swiftly to be followed by any lawyers in the house feel free.

I'm with you jen I think the majority of writers are probably flattered by it and it keeps the interest going. Although its not a protection I also guess that as long as you don't try to profit from it no one cares that much!

Onlygirljen · 20/05/2015 20:39

We should probably recruit for a lawyer on here to come and defend us just incase rhu! Doubt my cobbled together research would get us too far if TG changes his mind!

Blagged not blogged, flippin' autocorrect again!

pixieg1rl · 20/05/2015 21:30

Copyright law is one of those things that makes my brain dribble out of my ears.

Life is kicking me in the nuts at the moment, but I saw these beautiful alliums on the sprint walk to nursery this evening and thought you might like them.

Rhubarb01 · 20/05/2015 21:32

Nickel where did you get that from and who was it attached to at the time?

Nickel45 · 20/05/2015 21:32

dance, Ive started reading that ff. Not sure what I make of it!! I read laurieloves HP ff, I like the way she writes. I like the ones with Jason Isaac/malfoy but Snape not so much. But I saw the girl who plays Hermione granger on something on the TV and I can't look at her in the same way any more at all!!

Nickel45 · 20/05/2015 21:36

pix hope you are ok? Lovely photos,

rhu unfortunately not attached to any tall, dark, combat wearing soldier! My friends dh works with the army, and his son had it at camp ... so I asked if he had a spare one .... :)

Richtea19 · 20/05/2015 21:51

pixie beautiful photo, I'm watching The Chelsea Flower Shoe on TV, stunning gardens, quite depressing! I really wanted to go this year but I can't beleive how expensive it is.

nickel are you sue you didn't get that rucksack from a passing solider???

Nickel45 · 20/05/2015 22:00

I wish!

pixieg1rl · 20/05/2015 22:01

Life's just a bit relentless Nickel, and a couple of sick days just really highlights how delicate a balancing act it all is.

Someone on the flight to Kenya had one of those rucksacks. I was stood in the queue for passport control behind him, he was very tall, slim, greying but still attractive. I'm blaming the jet lag but I thought very seriously about licking him.

Richtea19 · 20/05/2015 22:06

Thomas' port.....and spraying fluids... What can I say other than Thomas the Tank FF. I've led a very sheltered life. Now on to 50SoG :)

Ilovelblue · 20/05/2015 22:39

First chance to check in tonight. Was working in the garden until about 8pm. Raked the lawn firstly - if nothing else, it's good for keeping bingo wings at bay!

Painted - I loved your New York story so like everyone else, am looking forward to an update when time and inspiration allow.

Pixie great photos of the alliums and like the wisteria too. Mine is almost out and if we get a couple of days of sunshine it should be in flower.

Woof I am honoured to have been captured forever in your ff! How do you do it??

Richtea never been to Chelsea - it works out expensive from here with train, hotel etc and even though I get a slight reduction on the ticket being in the RHS, it's still a dear do! We go to the RHS Show at Tatton Park though in July and we've helped out on the RHS stand quite a few times (they offer some decent perks, or at least used to do). Not done it for two or three years though. It was fun to be on the showground early morning before the public was let in and seeing the TV crews doing their filming.

orphan · 20/05/2015 22:48

I'd love to go to Chelsea Flower Show; I've only ever been to Hampton Court one (where I bought the dud alliums - not that I'm bitter or anything). I used to many years ago have a bit of a crush on Dan Pearson and was slightly devastated to learn he was gay. I like the fact he made gardens for his troll collection as a child.

Great pics pixie feel even more crushed about my allium failure

pixieg1rl · 20/05/2015 22:49

My friend and I want to do Tatton Park, we also both used to live in Manchester/Cheshire so it would be a chance to see some old friends as well.

Nickel45 · 20/05/2015 23:08

Are we finishing this thread tonight? Wink. How about some pictures?
