nipper sorry to hear about your mum x x

Can't believe there's Thomas the Tank M rated stuff, well actually I can!!

What yummy pictures of BA and what a luck girl she is. At first I thought he was "up the Shard" , can you I imagine if he was there when I was!! I would pushed DH off to get to him :). He looks bloody hot in those pictures. No dodgy outfits and perfect hair.

Back to books, love Jill Mansell and all quick chic flick reads. However I loved the Larsen Millenium trilogy, Girl with Dragon Tattoo etc.

rhubarb very excited to read your latest at bedtime tonight.

Paintedcherryblossoms · 19/05/2015 21:33

He seems to have lots of girl friends rich but guessing that's how it works in those acting circles. Having said that thinking about it I have as many if not more boy friends as girl friends. My DH did have to adjust when we first started dating he was a bit suspicious that I had a few on the go as well as him....as if Wink

Paintedcherryblossoms · 19/05/2015 21:39

Sorry rich meant jen getting flustered tonight

Ilovelblue · 19/05/2015 21:57

Evening ladies, just checking in. Been a very frustrating day at work for a whole raft of reasons and on top of it all, I couldn't post on here as there were too many people around.

Can't cope with those weird Thomas and Harry Potter ff, sorry. Just too peculiar for words. Some odd folk out there.

As mummy and Jen say, some of the books we were force fed as part of our A level courses have put me off those writers for life. I did the usual Shakespeare (King Lear and Measure for Measure), Alexander Pope, Thomas Hardy, Marlowe, Jane Austen and L P Hartley. I would still rate Tess of the D'Urbervilles as one of my all time favourites and have even seen the occasional Shakespeare production in Stratford since A levels time but I prefer something much less heavy these days when I'm not on here. Joanna Trollope and Katie Fforde are two of my favourite ones but having said that, I've had the same Joanna Trollope one on the go for over 6 weeks now because when I go to bed, I'm always reading (or re-reading) the ff! When I do pick it up, I have to flick through the previous chapter to remind myself what it's all about!

I did A level French too so had to read any number of pretentious French literature but I can honestly say that apart from the first verse of a Victor Hugo poem, I have thankfully forgotten all of it.

Ilovelblue · 19/05/2015 22:09

Nipper so sorry to hear about your Mum.

Loving those photos of BA. What a lucky girl she is. Just friends do we think? Hasn't she posted pictures of him before? Is she the one he was at drama school with? Agree that he seems to have improved his style - that suede jacket was really dreadful when he appeared on Radio 1 after OG finished and he seemed to like it as there were other photos of him wearing it. Have one of our group been acting as his stylist and not admitted it? Reckon it could be orphan and Richtea. They got a taste for it when fitting him for his kilt in Edinburgh and then whisked him off for some Trinny and Susannah style shopping afterwards.

Nickel45 · 19/05/2015 22:17

ilove hope you are taking it easy now :)

Maybe BA has been reading on here, and is taking our advice on his wardrobe?!!

Ilovelblue · 19/05/2015 22:21

Oooooh Nickel I do hope he has!

orphan · 19/05/2015 22:23

ilove I think for me part of the attraction of French lit A level was watching French films some of which seemed quite risqué at the time. I was so bad at maths and science that I was fairly limited in what A levels I could pick anyway.

I can't actually remember the last full novel I read Wolf Hall is still unfinished , think it could have been Girl on a Train but that was a while ago now. Nothing seems to hold my attention quite like the OG ff...

Paintedcherryblossoms · 19/05/2015 22:23

I fear the weather has got a bit warmer nickel and the suede number may have been pushed to the back of the wardrobe until September Hmm

Rhubarb01 · 19/05/2015 22:26

Ilovewhat you said about A level language course literature is interesting. I only remember the details of one text I studied for A level German which translated is "The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum". When the recent TV drama 'The Lost Honour of Christopher Jeffries' was broadcast I remembered it straight away, probably because although one is fiction and the other fact they both cover the same issue which is being tried and found guilty by the tabloid press. I assume the writer of the recent TV production knew this book. It was by a famous German Writer Heinrich Boll (should be an umlaut on the 'o'). As for all the other stories etc - can't remember a thing - gosh they must have been riveting reading.

Just to blow any high brow myths - I also like Jilly Cooper. Loved 'Riders'.

orphan · 19/05/2015 22:27

I'm afraid the only sartorial advice I gave CJ was how to remove his clothes as quickly as possible. richtea's efforts with the industrial blower helped sort out the guinea pig as well.

orphan · 19/05/2015 22:29

Ooh rhubarb, yes, Rupert Campbell - Black.Grin

WHAJEB1 · 19/05/2015 22:33

Ah Rupert Cambell Black!!! I once pulled a sickie for 2 days when I was 14 to read my mums hidden copy of Riders. Sweet valley high was never the same again!!!

Rhubarb01 · 19/05/2015 22:35

As I remember the handsome cad RCB in Riders had groupies a bit like CJ's majorettes in SPO's

Ilovelblue · 19/05/2015 22:36

On a totally different subject, part of my strange day involved one of my younger colleagues. I have known him for about 10 years I think and knew from the first moment I met him that he was gay. He was about 21 at the time and doing an industrial placement with us. He is so lovely and it's just like talking to one of your (girl)friends - he admires your lipstick and knows if it's new, encouraged me to buy my Mulberry handbag etc etc. I discovered by chance about 6 months ago that he now has a partner and that they have moved in together but he has never in fact told me he is gay! (Does he think it would shock me or something). He had to take some time off because his partner had been involved in an accident and I kept thinking "Well I wish he'd tell me he's now living with somebody". In the end when he returned today, I just said "And how are things at home now?" so he said his partner had been concussed and taken to hospital etc. So it's now all out in the open, but it was a strange situation - I was really waiting for him to tell me, rather than the other way round but in the end, I found it too awkward having to pretend I didn't know!

Mumtothenipper · 19/05/2015 22:42

Thanks for kind wishes about bananamum... She'll be fine in the end, but is not a woman who is good at sitting still so giving me palpitations re over doing things!

I don't think I can take a look at the Thomas ff, with a two year old Thomas is still a regular feature in this house, I don't think even my smutty mind could take such thoughts over my first cup of tea in the morning!

Might brace a look at the hp one though.... You know, just out of curiosity!!

Ice, I've started that massively long 50 shades one you linked to... It's going to be long ride!!!!

Also have the latest in the original sinners book on the go, plus all the fab ff updates today... Getting brain ache from it all!!! I'm notoriously poorly read... The purchase of a kindle meant I have unashamedly indulged in lots of semi erotic fiction without having anyone know what I'm reading!!!

Like that new pic of BA... He should have a girl friend, or at least a friend with benefits... He is too handsome to be sat at home pinning after me.

Ilovelblue · 19/05/2015 22:51

Nipper and ice - I'm flicking through that 50 Shades ff too but have got a bit bored after chapter 10, knowing there were more than 160 chapters still to go.

Rhubarb01 · 19/05/2015 22:53

Just going to confess that I was moonlighting over on the Eurovision thread earlier during the semi final this evening - My name's Rhubarb and I'm a Eurovision Fan - It was my first experience of live watching and commenting and it was fun!! My excuse, apart from the distant memory of the UK always doing well when I was a kid, is that the DD's love the annual ritual of watching it. Eldest for some reason enjoys the voting more which takes longer than the songs now. If anyone is interested at all I have to report that the songs were uniformly dire (For Albania you need ear plugs!) and not even dire in a good way.

Anyway, can't help thinking what a frenzy we'd be in if we had a second OG series to talk about live.

Richtea19 · 19/05/2015 22:55

Loved RCB, read Riders, Rivals and Polo a million times over. Also loved all the other JCooper books, Imogen, Octavia etc! Might have to read those again! Good idea about the kindle and being able to read "under the radar"

Mumtothenipper · 19/05/2015 22:58

I'm at chapter 3 but it's not doing it for me.... Something about the way it's written feels jumbled... I can't put my finger on it, but I think I'm going to let it go.

Richtea19 · 19/05/2015 22:58

Confession too rhubarb we love Eurovision, but mostly the voting! It's so hilarious, and I love Graham Norton and TErry W when he did covered it. The broadcasters for each country desperately want their 2 mins of fame! Priceless!

Mumtothenipper · 19/05/2015 23:02

Oh and to go back to earlier conversations I missed about the difference between the make and female writers on ff.... I think the thing with dd and kd is that they both idolise molly and their stories focus on how incredibly brave, petite and cockney she is. If I read one more account of her crawling across the mind field I'll explode!!! Yeah she was brave, she's an army medic, and a woman. Of course she was brave, it's what we do! Rant over.

Rhubarb01 · 19/05/2015 23:06

My best impression is of one of the universal presenters who yell in that strange foreign English/American tone "Hello Europe! Are you having a good time?" and then pretend to have a bit of a romance/tiff with the male presenter when he doesn't notice she's changed her dress for the third time. Why oh why do they repeat the scores in two languages. It's so unnecessary and you're right those presenters are hilarious "Thank you for such a fabulous show tonight!!" then they go on and on and on and they have to shut them up.

Rhubarb01 · 19/05/2015 23:08

Nipper brave, petite, cockney - yeah must be Babs Windsor!

Richtea19 · 19/05/2015 23:30

rhubarb and whajeb brilliant updates. Both stories are fab. What is Matt up to!!!!!!! More please! And I love that Molly has met CJs mum and dad, just perfect. Now bed!
