I had a cooking fest last night for the freezer and ended up swigging the remains of the cider when I'd finished making a chicken dish and then dozed off in the chair. Only just realised how much icing my friend's son has dribbled everywhere when decorating his cake so need to scrape that off now. Then it's out on my bike whilst I have good intentions before settling down with a coffee to catch up on pixie's latest chapter.

Ilovelblue · 26/04/2015 09:34

PS quite a heavy frost here first thing but brilliant clear blue skies.

BK28 · 26/04/2015 10:35

The excitement level is beginning to go up here in London now! Have to admit last night's mission was to stay warm and dry! Now in place to observe the ladies handover of CJ! Still keeping a watch out for any fishy business... Need to check that richtea doesn't try a move with her mack!!

Nickel45 · 26/04/2015 11:20

Was thinking about that article about poldark, it's funny that it's the adoration of AT that's been picked up on, but not of CJ or even musketeers (aren't they no thread seven hundred or something?!?!). I had a quick look for poldark on here. And I missin something but I could only find one where they were discussing the plot?!!?! From what I read we were more into poldark on here!!! Guessing I'm looking in the wrong place mind. Right best stop thinking and get back to preparing for CJ's arrival later.

icemistOBE · 26/04/2015 11:46

I saw the Poldark thread but hadn't looked. How boring. Not discussing AT

As we all have oodles of time to while away...or not....I thought I'd let you know that there's some Poldark fanfic. Of course nothing like the quantity or quality of the OG library but a few additional scenes and some QS!

WHAJEB1 · 26/04/2015 13:13

Thank you for all your lovely comments and reviews - sorry I've not been on before but am way behind in everything! Holidays and then a long run of shifts just haven't helped with my guilty pleasure of OG, though am slightly worried that I may be nearing decompression slightly Confused !!! Why me??? pixie adoring your new story, just amazingly fantastic writing and looking forward to your next update!! Xx

Nickel45 · 26/04/2015 13:23

I'm case you are all sitting around this afternoon with nothing to do, SPO has been busy on the SZS website, and it's brilliant!!! Stuff for the kids to do and an array of items from Jonathans - but don't look at work!!! SPO, it is above and beyond brilliant!! [Grin]

threadNneedle · 26/04/2015 13:27

Nickel please can you post the link again.

icemistOBE · 26/04/2015 13:32

Link is in very first post of thread

Nickel hope you are waxed, buffed and everything else in readiness for your first adventure with CJ! Don't forget to update us on your activities!

I was thinking again about that Poldark interview. I know I said it yesterday but virtually everything that woman said about the programme could equally apply to OG. I wonder why there was so little on about OG/BA/CJ at the time? AT is the same age roughly as BA and personally I think BA is far, far better looking than AT. Do you reckon it could have something to do with the controversial nature of the war in Afghanistan? (Though as we know, it was primarily about a female medic and could have been set in a number of locations, as our own ff proves). Just clutching at straws really.

Richtea19 · 26/04/2015 15:03

Well I'm back from the Marathon, and wasn't able to intercept CJ in the Marathon crowds. I think I got my Intel all wrong and thought I was having a "quickie" "handover" before nickel! Never mind something to look forward to next weekend. I have to say it was a bit draftyunder the Mac.. But plenty of army reserves to admire drool over to keep the chills away.

DS did really well, bless him. He got 17mins 20secs which I thought was amazing, but he wanted to get just under 17secs. Some kids his age got times of 14 mins...incredible. Fabulous atmosphere, all a bit tearful when you see the wheelchair, visually impaired races. I didn't see any Boulder shaped or fish smelling, tool belt, fishnets and crocs looking runners Grin

Loads of FF to catch up on, so I think a little lay down on the bed with a cuppa is in order.

ice your little one is adorable! :)

Onlygirljen · 26/04/2015 15:03

ilove I think it's primarily due to the PR hype that the BBC has engaged in for poldark - it's far bigger than the campaign they ever put together for OG, which (in my view) they treated shabbily from the outset eg pitting it against Downton Abbey.

Poldark is based entirely around AT, who is now a bona fide Hollywood name after the hobbit films. As a result, they've really pushed the PR boat out and it's paid off. I genuinely think that if they'd done the same for OG it would have been far more widely viewed, and BA would probably be fending off job offers with a stick. As opposed to just fending off crazed mumsnetters with one. Just my opinion.

I've got RL panic going on right now. Went for a test drive of a new car at lunchtime (my current car eats both repair money and petrol) and have ended up buying the bloody thing Confused. I now have THE FEAR. DH is going to murder me. Seriously, if I disappear from this thread, somebody send out a search party....

Onlygirljen · 26/04/2015 15:11

Well done to your DS rich, you must be so proud of him! Smile

icemistOBE · 26/04/2015 15:30

I think Poldark played on its earlier series success. Was advertised as a remake etc
I think too, our girl being on as same time as downton didn't help. Lacey was the only one who did any press before it was broadcast

Very proud, not the best picture, but you can see his very long legs (not my genes!)

Nickel45 · 26/04/2015 16:32

What a fab pic richtea you deserve to be very proud of him :)

I've just had a long relaxing soak in the bath to get myself ready for CJ, no kids to interrupt me every five minutes with "why are you in the bath?", "can you get me a drink?", "whens tea?", "can you turn the TV over" (er, no, I'm in the bath, ask your dad, he's in the same room!)... Ok, just realised I've veered into the completely unrealistic realm there ... !!!

pixieg1rl · 26/04/2015 16:34

I think with Poldark it's a drama centred on a male character which means the pr machine was pretty much primed for female interest before it started. OG was centred on a female character and maybe they didn't expect BA to get so much attention and weren't ready for it. The same sort of thing happened with the old P&P series. No one in the media noticed Colin Firth until Darcy jumped in the lake.

BK28 · 26/04/2015 18:18

Brilliant handover between pixie and nickel, observed him catching the train ... the Marathon subterfuge worked and put others off the scent! Saw a few dinosaurs running, wearing the scaly boulder look - could have been woof?!?

Enjoy your week nickel will collect next Sunday to take to Richtea.
Hope your DS enjoyed his marathon experience!! Probably a bit of a PPM (proud parent moment, usually accompanied by both tears and smiling)!!

orphan · 26/04/2015 18:46

Wow what an exhausting day. Running 26 miles dressed as an overstuffed armchair isn't easy. Had to ditch the scatter cushions at mile 14. I decided to go for the seating disguise rather than my usual boulder just in case I missed my target CJ - I hoped to entice James Cracknell to take a rest on my well cushioned seat.

orphan · 26/04/2015 18:50

So pleased for you mummyr on getting the job and massive congratulations to your ds richtea.

Wycombe123 · 26/04/2015 18:52

OMG nickel are you a long suffering Wycombe Wanderers fan?! I am - hence the name! I went to see Book of Mormon so didn't go yesterday - hilarious show by the way. As we must live very close could I borrow CJ for a couple of hours during his stay - I would only be looking adoringly at him and have a glass of something so wouldn't wear him out at all!

I did my usual scanning of the crowds when in London in case of a BA spotting and saw Jools Oliver and her four children in Covent Garden sitting outside at Jamie's Italian - she didn't look very happy - maybe because her son was climbing around all over the place!

orphan · 26/04/2015 18:55

Have a feeling woof was at the race cos someone who was struggling to run in crocs, took a break on me for a good ten minutes. I've had to send my upholstery off for dry cleaning - the pilchards smell is very pervasive.
