As you were wenches... The bar is stocked up, the chaise is re-covered and ready for action, and all we have to do it... er. Wait until Friday.

I don't get it though. Aren't plenty of US shows very adult? All the ones watched by DS1, for example Game of Thrones? Breaking Bad? etc

ChaiseLounger · 22/03/2015 12:08

Best bit this series? So far?

Has to be the snog, for me.

What did we decide was the best bit from last series? Was in Santi in the stream?

ChaiseLounger · 22/03/2015 12:11

Agree with apricot. There hasn't been much sex this series, I don't think the dark bits have been THAT dark, so can't see much that warrants the post 9pm watershed.

Do you think S3 will be on Friday nights again?

SparklesRedHotChileLeather · 22/03/2015 12:19

I don't have a fave bit this series. I did love the confession scene on Fri night - thought they were all fab in that.

I'm not even sure if I have a fave episode yet.

Aramis & Queen in convent from S1. Obviously!

ApricotCrush · 22/03/2015 12:20

Game of Thrones is produced by HBO and they seem to be allowed to get away with more than the other networks. I don't know about Breaking Bad.

In the lap of the Gods I think Chaise.

SparklesRedHotChileLeather · 22/03/2015 12:21

It's the violence that's post-watershed - don't think they'd get the stabbing/throttling/beheading in before 9pm!

ChaiseLounger · 22/03/2015 12:26

True. Poisoning and the be-heading I guess. But they are not the bits we like are they? We just like it when the musketeets are together.

Spark's choice of her favourite scene being the confession is it is the perfect example of what it is we actually want.

Carolina2015 · 22/03/2015 12:28

I agree with Apes re:the American market being the dictator moving forward especially with Weinstein calling the shots. If he's putting his money in he will want to make sure that a large US audience gets it if not before the UK then certainly at the same time.

I would even go as far as to speculate that they might get the whole series there first next time around.

As regards the whole post watershed thing, it's more in what is suggested than what you actually see. This series they have alluded to Thomas actually raping Milady, girls being auctioned off for sex, Rochefort attempting to rape the Queen and a brutal execution.

American TV is a whole different thing to UK. They are happy to show scenes with an immense amount of violent content but show them a bare tit and the bible belt are up in arms. Sex is still more openly shown in the UK and Europe. This is why some American friends I have subscribe to as much UK TV as they can on the internet. They love it but they ain't allowed to watch it.

Carolina2015 · 22/03/2015 12:58

Just off to sort washing but should we be thinking about a new thread and does anyone particularly want to do it?

Morelikeguidelines · 22/03/2015 12:58

It was the sex auction and the attempted rape of the queen that I thought were unsuitable for pre watershed.

The general fighting and violence were fairly OK in my view as it is just your traditional swashbuckling - none of the goodies tend to die and you rarely see any blood or injuries close up.

Kingy frothing at the mouth was not pleasant I agree.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 22/03/2015 13:01

Why don't you start one, carolina?

Carolina2015 · 22/03/2015 13:16

I did one before Drink and got in trouble -

Happy to have a go though

MiladyBeaWinter · 22/03/2015 13:23

A lot of regular US TV is dictated by strict laws on what they can show and makes it's money on ad revenue - so they won't show sex or nudity. Violence is fine though Hmm Game of Thrones etc is made by premium cable channels, not regulated as much and makes it's money by subscription so can get away with far more, and is probably successfull because it does.

I agree with Comtess, this isn't BBCA at fault it's BBC UK not looking after it's fans. Probably because it knew it had a strong enough core fan base who would stick about despite them dicking about with it. This is especially true if they knew S3 had external funding. All they needed to do was put the football on BBC2. Bastards.

I did think Porthos was excellent MoreL, up until they did the episode with his father all his scenes were foreshadowing that and a bit strung out and dull. Now he is all kickass again and I'm living that and the bromance (non SS style).

NEW THREAD

MiladyBeaWinter · 22/03/2015 13:26

Oh, favourite S1 scene = the door swishing. Or the alley kiss.

Carolina2015 · 22/03/2015 13:26

Aaahhh... that's how you get the link to say NEW THREAD Grin

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 22/03/2015 13:43

OMG! The alley snog

FancyFancy · 22/03/2015 14:06

That's better Grin

I'm with you on the Queenie love chaise. Regal Queenie is awesome

Re the US business. I was reading Private Eye last night & they had an article on how the BBC needed to increase overseas sales to make their budget balance. They didn't particularly mention drama, the slant was more on the filling of the uk schedules with reality tv, as that sells overseas, and the dumbing down of documentaries.

FancyFancy · 22/03/2015 14:10

Gah, pressed post too early.
but I suppose if they are increasingly dependent on overseas sales and funding, they are in a weaker negotiating position & don't get to dictate scheduling terms.

IssyStark · 22/03/2015 14:12

The alley snog was, as ds1 would say, epic

FancyFancy · 22/03/2015 14:17

Agree also that the US is very odd about sex & nudity, I'm always surprised at things like Friends that would have so many references to porn, but you never saw much flesh. Hmm

It's truly fucked up, we've had less flesh, but more implied sexual violence, the sex auction made me squirm (and not in a good way) and so did the hunting lodge scene. How are those scenes more acceptable than a good honest fuck?

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 22/03/2015 14:29

I agree Fancy!

IssyStark · 22/03/2015 14:30

fancy I agree, but the the States is a truly fucked up nation and can do double think like no other ( separation of church and State, yeh right).

Back onto more fun things, I loved that after the cupboard snog, when they were leaving the Palace, Athos was completely accepting of Milady over-ruling him and physically turning him around. Grin

FancyFancy · 22/03/2015 14:34

You're right there about the church & state business issy

It's quite simple BBC, what we want is more of this
