Ooh yes, he'll need a bath to freshen up

Anybody read the new ff - the long weekend? It's really good. I need more of it, sooo hoping another chapter goes up soon!

orphan · 25/02/2015 20:07

And I expect he'll be so tired that he'll need help drying himself with the very, very small towel. You wouldn't want him to miss any spots and risk uncomfortable chafing.

pixieg1rl · 25/02/2015 20:17

I see your prayers have been answered jen.

Must stop reading ff, or ration myself.

Onlygirljen · 25/02/2015 20:24

Prayers answered?! Am I going to go upstairs and find CJ has arrived early and is in the bath, instead of two kids that should really be in bed by now? Grin

I know what you mean, I need to start limiting myself as well - reading them all is wreaking havoc in my already overworked nut..

orphan · 25/02/2015 20:48

onlygirl thanks for the Long Weekend alert. It's brilliant but frustrating too, cos unlike a novel we've got to wait now... (Feeling affinity with Dickens' readers).

Ilovelblue · 25/02/2015 21:10

Ladies, the photos in the restaurant at BH weren't very good because the lighting wasn't great so I went back the next afternoon before we left to take some pictures. Unfortunately, THE table wasn't set up - for some reason, only the ones by the windows had been laid. Gorgeous hotel - will do a report for you all later.

Great pictures ilove :)

I've just seen, BS42,series 3 starts 9th march, 10 pm, BBC3

icemistOBE · 25/02/2015 21:26

Oh it looks just like the series.

Must have felt quite surreal sat there. Tom Cruise made a film years ago in my home town and I remember going to the studios thinking 'omg Tom Cruise stood here!'

icemist what are you doing on here? I thought you would be otherwise occupied tonight! Did CJ tell you how he sulked when I wouldn't let him drive?

Seriously, it did feel a bit surreal and I had to concentrate very hard not to laugh and not to let the cat out of the bag to my friend as to why we were sitting in the very seats CJ and MD had occupied. Just like today, I kept smirking to myself on the journey down and had to keep coughing and biting my lip to stop the odd snort coming out!

I did have my story ready (feigning total surprise) if the reception or restaurant staff had said something about "we believe you have requested a certain table madam" but was quite thankful they were so discreet.

Thanks for the tip off Nickel. I have enjoyed BS42 far more than I thought I would.

ilove brilliant photos, it's amazing to think He actually say there. I don't think I would of been able to contain myself!

I'm watching the Brits on TV what a load of S...T, FF reading in the background, Ive got the cat on my lap or I would of gone to bed! Think I'm just too old and out of touch!

Ilovelblue · 25/02/2015 21:46

Richtea dare I confess that I am watching the restaurant scenes over and over again and keep laughing out loud. Honest to God, I feel as if I'm about 15!!

icemistOBE · 25/02/2015 21:49

i've knackered him out already....

orphan · 25/02/2015 21:51

Ooh, the food looks yum ilove. What's the main course and did you have pud? Did you ask your friend if she wanted you to order for her?!Grin

orphan · 25/02/2015 21:52

icemist I'm disappointed. Hope he has more stamina when I get my mitts on him.

Ilovelblue · 25/02/2015 21:52

Well he was already tired when I dropped him off on your street though I have to say he has remarkable powers of revival!

icemistOBE · 25/02/2015 21:56

He's young, a bit of a sleep and he'll be raring to go Grin

Ilovelblue · 25/02/2015 21:57

orphan the main course was beef on a bed of green lentils, courgettes and broccoli. We did have puddings - mine was banana bread with ice cream and toffee sauce. I can post that tomorrow but I am up to my limit with six photos for tonight.

I was really tempted to start quoting OG lines but I had definitely realised by this time that my friend wasn't as into it all as we are and did not want to seem completely round the bend.

Ilovelblue · 25/02/2015 22:24

I'm going to have to do this in two parts. Hope it gives you a feel for what it was all like! Writing in the third person is just a bit tongue in cheek I guess.

REAL LIFE MEETS OUR GIRL
ILOVE AND HER FRIEND VISIT BATH AND BAILBROOK HOUSE

  1. FACT

Once Ilove discovered the restaurant scenes in Our Girl had been filmed at Bailbrook House in Bath, she persuaded her friend that this is where their annual winter break should start. Ilove’s friend was also a fan of Our Girl but it became quite clear that she was not obsessive.

Hardcore contributor Nickel kindly rang the hotel in advance to reserve the table used in the film sequence for Ilove and her friend.

Ilove was suitably impressed with the approach to the hotel which was up a steep drive and both she and her friend were quite surprised at the size of the place as there was a very large annexe at the back which contained bedrooms and conference facilities.

Two doormen rushed to help them with their suitcases. Ilove held her breath as she gave her name in case the receptionist mentioned something about the table reservation for dinner but he was Portuguese and so probably the television programme meant very little to him anyway.

Both ladies were a little disappointed to realise their room was in the annexe but nevertheless, it was excellent. There was a sitting area with a television and DVD player and a very large bathroom. There was a fridge in the room too with complimentary fresh milk and mineral water.

  1. FACT MEETS FICTION

The ladies were asked to go to reception when they were ready to eat so that “the experience” could be explained to them. Ilove was a little apprehensive at this point in case the experience was a euphemism for the Our Girl secret being let out of the bag and held her breath whilst they were led down to the Cloisters restaurant. Once she had realised they were indeed being given the Captain James/Molly Dawes’ table, she quickly sat down at what had been Charles’ seat. Her friend rapidly grasped the fact they were sitting at the prize table but either did not realise the organisation which had gone into this or held her tongue. Ilove desperately tried not to laugh. She eventually brought out her mobile and showed a photo of Molly and Charles sitting at the table and both she and her friend then worked out that the tables had been moved slightly which would have been to accommodate the film cameras as the area was in fact very narrow. Ilove did not confess how many other photos she held on her camera of the Mumsnet hero of the series.

Ilovelblue · 25/02/2015 22:27
  1. PURE FICTION

Ilove was asked by the other contributors to check out the conference facilities. These were extensive and would easily accommodate everyone wishing to attend the AGM. Sadly, there were few swivel chairs in evidence, but given the staff were so helpful, she is confident swivel chairs could be made available if the hotel were to be given enough notice. Although the weather was poor during Ilove’s visit, it was clear that the grounds were very large and could stage any outdoor activities the Collective wished to pursue during the AGM.

  1. FF

Ilove had visited Bath on a number of previous occasions but having been a hardcore contributor on this thread since October and subsequently discovering ff and the amazing writers who have introduced themselves, it was almost as if she was walking around Bath with fresh eyes. Bath Rugby Club had featured in many of the stories and had numerous posters around the city and of course she went up to the Circus and the Crescent, even discovering Charles’ parents’ house at Number 20.

  1. SUMMARY

A very surreal experience but one she would repeat any time!

cjwoofwoof · 25/02/2015 22:39

Ilove that sounds magical, you lucky lucky girl.

Just watched Madonna fall off stage at the Brits. Enough said Grin

Richtea19 · 25/02/2015 22:43

ilove brilliant account and I really like the idea of outside space for AGM activities....

cjwoof watching Madge fall off stage was worth the pain of watching the Brits! Hilarious, someone gonna get fired!

cjwoofwoof · 25/02/2015 23:07

Ol' Madge might gonna need some lessons from King Antoine on how to fill a flowing cape, wear a guinea pig headpiece and STILL look drop deadingly-luscious gorgeous.

apsara03 · 25/02/2015 23:08

Brilliant ilove :)

cjwoofwoof · 25/02/2015 23:11

You're right Jen Greenstuffs ff is quality and latest one doesn't disappoint. Can't wait for next chapter, she's brill. The ff is top notch lately and all of you are so clever [grovelling bow]
