Bit risqué!! Definitely not one to watch when the kids might wander into the lounge...

And definitely a Russell T Davies series - Queer as Folk's little brother

I don't think it will be on goggle box. Too extreme.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 01/03/2015 08:27

ProfY that article is just too disturbing. 61 people found in the canal? Awful. It was definitely the boys from the water the other night. Very chilling.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 01/03/2015 08:30

It might be on Gogglebox - they showed the beheading of Anne Boleyn in Wolf Hall on Friday which was pretty gruesome.

ethelb · 01/03/2015 08:34

I was a student in Manchester working on the student paper. The first murder I ever covered was in 2008. He was a student who had been murdered outside his front door after a night on canal street. He was found by an early morning jogger and they never arrested a suspect. They simply found nothing. That episode made me remember him.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 01/03/2015 08:40

I wonder why this isn't widely known (ie outside the region)

I had never heard of it until this thread

61 Shock

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 01/03/2015 08:43

Re Gogglebox...was there any sex in this episode?

Basic Instinct floored Gogglebox households a couple of weeks ago- I doubt the producers would inflict Cucumber on them

Southeastdweller · 01/03/2015 08:46

I also hadn't heard of these boys in the canal.

ProfYaffle · 01/03/2015 09:01

RTD refers to them in the RT interview when talking about Hazel: "Her appearance is given huge weight by her invisible chorus of the boys in the water; and they’re real, those boys, the boys who drown every year. I wrote that line long before the recent scandal over exactly how many boys regularly disappear into Manchester’s canals. It’s shocking."

Southeastdweller · 01/03/2015 09:05

I actually had to read that bit of the interview twice because at first I thought I wasn't reading it right because I was so surprised I hadn't heard of these disappearances.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 01/03/2015 09:30

ethelb Sad

LikeIcan · 01/03/2015 09:39

I very much doubt cucumber will feature on gogglebox.

HelenaDove · 01/03/2015 16:53

I've got a question about something from a couple of episodes ago if anyone knows the answer. The other week when Hayley Cropper was about to have sex with Father Dougal and was telling him about her vaginoplasty to repair her birth injuries after her daughter who is a teenager now it sounded like she was saying it's not been tested out by anyone other than herself yet, but earlier in the series she was carrying a baby in a carseat, was that not her child then?

ProfYaffle · 02/03/2015 12:25

I thought she had injuries from the birth of the first child (the teenager) which she basically just lived with til the birth of the baby. After that she found a more sympathetic gynaecologist (the one who said something like 'what did they do to you?') and she had reconstructive surgery after that.

QueQuesto · 02/03/2015 12:32

Ah maybe but the only children I remember her mentioning in the hotel were Adam and Molly the teenagers but I tend to be faffing on my phone and only half paying attention.

annadina · 02/03/2015 15:07

I thought the baby was a foster child?

annadina · 02/03/2015 15:08

and Grin at sex with Father Dougal

Sammy3 · 02/03/2015 16:28

I've been watching this & Banana & really enjoying them. I tend to record & watch later so only just saw the latest episode last night. I agree that it was harrowing. You knew something bad was going to happen since he was so conflicted but wow. I was stunned. Both actors were fantastic & left you feeling like it was real. Even now, I'm still thinking about it.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 02/03/2015 17:04

I loved the bit with Hayley and Fr Dougal

that character is brilliant

I also loved the bit where she carefully reboxed Henry's mugs then methodically smashed them with a broom

yy think baby is adopted

still haven't managed to watch last week's tho

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 02/03/2015 17:07

and THANK YOU RTD for putting a bit in for middle aged mothers/gynaecology Grin

I haven't ever seen anything like that on telly

TheHappinessTrap · 02/03/2015 21:08

Just spent the last hour in shock. V good. V well told. Sad

TheHappinessTrap · 03/03/2015 08:57

I just watched the trailer for the next episode. I'd presumed it was a 6 part series and that this most recent episode was the finale. I'd mistakenly thought that the Lance character was the central character even though the Henry character is on the "cover". Although I've wondered how the impact of Lance's death would hit the other characters I'd thought it was an appropriate place to end the show and I almost can't bear that there will be laughs in the next episode! Having only seen that episode last night I still feel as though I'm grieving and his death was my first thought upon waking this morning. Such a powerful show!

Pooseyfrumpture · 03/03/2015 14:39

Bloody hell Shock

NadiaWadia · 03/03/2015 15:01

Very sad, Lance was my favourite character. It was shocking, and brilliantly done. Both actors were fantastic as Sammy says.

Why oh why did Lance have to pursue Daniel, when there were so many signs that he was a wrong 'un? Just because he was good-looking, I suppose. A contrast to Henry! Although he was aggressive and very unlikeable I ended up feeling almost sorry for Daniel, because he was so obviously fighting against his own sexuality, and in denial about it.
