Thread number one.

So are we all still watching, despite the mumbling, bad writing and inaccuracies?

I'm not sure what ClaireGwen is up to, but they've written her to like kinky sex which in telly land means she's a bad un.

Last night's highlight for me was DH's genuine confusion over whether subtitles were for the hearing impaired or vision impaired (he may have had a couple of beers). Also sweaty Lee hammering in fence posts.

Has that junior solicitor fella been in something on CBBC?

When does The Missing season 2 start?

Because he told her that they weren't family.
The thing I am getting really annoyed about, is the whole Joe attacking some random and not:
-being arrested and prosecuted for gbh
-that even if for some reason he wasn't prosecuted, that this wouldn't have somehow reached Ellies ears through the grape vine, someone would have mentioned it
-that conduct of that nature wouldn't have led to some kind of suspension.from his job, if his colleague put in a request to no longer work with him, then the ambulance service knew about it.
I am having to.suspend my disbelief hugely!

seaoflove · 29/01/2015 20:12

About Ellie's sister (God, what is her name? Lucy?) lying in court to implicate Joe - was she not misguidedly thinking she was doing Ellie a massive favour? In a "Here you go Sis, I'll make sure that bastard doesn't get away with it" way? When they passed on the stairs and Lucy (assuming that's her name Grin) looked at Ellie, all pleased with herself "I played a blinder, didn't I?" it seemed to suggest that.

ArabellaStrange · 29/01/2015 22:51

Yes, she thought that by giving that testimony, she would be helping hugely with the prosecution.

Fiderer · 30/01/2015 08:30

When someone says something which makes me think (even slightly) "Eh, why say that?" I wonder if it is a Clue or just Broadnonschurch (Broadchurch nonsense)

E.g. Lucy in court saying she'd been up playing online poker, no need to be so specific and as she had/has debts from gambling (in S1) not something she's want known, surely. So I imagine the defence thinking the same re debts and checking her finances and seeing the 1000 pounds deposited or transferred by Ellie just before she made the statement.

Also: Kate mentioning the bridesmaid's name her husband was shagging. Maybe DT & OC check up on it and find out it's a lie and so he could have gone back to Sandbrook that night.

Not sure where that leads me. Still there must be as DT said a reason why he wouldn't want the case reopened.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/01/2015 17:52

only lovers and holly i saw claires nails as well, but thought was a bad job when holding her phone and reading lees texts and she had black nail varnish on but to the side of her thumb nail was bare picky blondes

what annoys me even more tho is the fact that the new born baby (does it have a name yet) is always asleep in the car seat Shock Hmm on the table

dont they know babies shouldnt be in car seats continually and can danage their back/spine

why isnt he in a moses basket

plus as usual i got slightly lost - so we dont know whay killed the girls yet, but seems to be pointing to the dad (naked bloke from love actually0 as he has a bluebell pic on his wall

is that right?

Mumtotherescueagain · 30/01/2015 17:56

The baby is called Elizabeth (Lizzie) after mum Beth said - but not sure if she meant herself or her mum. I thought her mum - but of course her name must be Elizabeth too. Very unimaginative.

The car seat thing is annoying but practical - you get stunt baby asleep Grin and then just carry seat on to set. Much easier than trying to transfer sleeping baby in to actors arms ALL the time.

seaoflove · 30/01/2015 18:08

Beth's (young and not ill looking) mum inexplicably died between series one and two. I'm guessing they just couldn't be arsed to write a part for the actress?

Mumtotherescueagain · 30/01/2015 18:19

Dies of a broken heart apparently. Having survived perfectly well for three months after Danny's death but then kicked the bucket so quickly they were able to have a gravestone up before the baby arrived. Bit odd that as usually it takes at least a year for the ground to 'settle' enough.

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 30/01/2015 18:49

Isn't the naked bloke from Love Actually Martin Freeman? Or do i have my naked men confused?!

lostoncemore · 30/01/2015 18:59

So Ellie is going to get stitched up as it is obvious she is the next suspect, trying to frame her husband giving her sister the money, but I really think there is some kind of pedophile ring involving the Vicar, Joe, Mark and Nige. Isn't it odd how Mark has started seeing Tom in almost the same way as Joe was seeing Danny?

Re the Sandbrook murders I think Claire and the Gelipse guy know something and Lee was protecting Claire

Clawdy · 30/01/2015 19:30

Yes the naked one I remember is Martin Freeman!

Clawdy · 30/01/2015 19:33

I think like in The Missing, the paedophile ring theory is going to be a red herring. As a solution it's become hackneyed in drama now.

whothehellknows · 30/01/2015 20:43

I felt that Ellie might be chosen as the next suspect too, but I'm not sure what I would base that on apart from her being torn apart in court.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/01/2015 22:51

Oh. I got the wrong naked man Blush

Why would Ellie kill Danny though?

diddl · 31/01/2015 06:11

Plus Joe/Nige were both seen out & about at the time.

Ellie wasn't.

lostoncemore · 31/01/2015 09:34

I think it was implied that Beth's mum had a thing for the newsagent guy Jack so maybe his suicide and Danny's murder was too much for her.

lostoncemore · 31/01/2015 09:36

So if it's not Ellie then it must be Nige who is the next suspect. Personally I think it was Tom but that doesn't explain the large hands used to strangle Danny.

Fiderer · 31/01/2015 10:39

I think Joe did it, he just doesn't want to go to prison for it. He said re changing his plea, "I don't want to go down as a child killer" or similar. Not "I didn't do it". As I recall anyway.

By Ellie I meant I can well see the defence using that against her, backing up the (absurd) affair allegation and throwing doubt on Joe's guilt. They jury have to find him guilty beyond any reasonable doubt so the more muddy it all gets (Ellie, Nige) the better for Joe.

I'd like it if Tom saw how badly affected everyone is by the trial and went to visit Joe and told him to stop, admit it, or he's never see him or Fred again. He's probably the one person Joe cares about. But I can't see that happening because Tom seems to be in his own little world.

lostoncemore · 31/01/2015 13:29

Actually Fiderer I think you could be right. And with the confession being thrown out, Ellie's sister lying, PQ's character saying it was Nige, the affair allegation and the money. There is a chance he could get off.

whothehellknows · 01/02/2015 18:46

I think the defense could implicate either Ellie or Tom. If the defense have access to all the statements taken during the investigation, then they'll know that Tom and Danny had a falling out, that Tom tried to destroy the computer, etc. If they only have Miller's word that she took a sleeping tablet, then neither she or Tom can prove they were at home. So either Tom did it (or Ellie did in an attempt to defend her son during an altercation?) and then Ellie tampered with the investigation, Slept with DT, etc. to throw the scent off?

ToastedOrFresh · 02/02/2015 00:03

Broadchurch is descending into farce isn't it ? Who is going to get the blame next ? The postman ?

Why is Ellie and the D.I. (D.T.'s) character sharing a bed but in a platonic way ? They're playing into the hands of the gossips.

From the first series I thought it was the dead boy's Dad what done it. Especially as he went to tell his current 15 year old boyfriend that it was over. He had the baby with him then too. Gross.

Daniel Latimer's Dad has the unsmiling face of an absolute chilling control freak. Even when things are going ok.

Oh, and the delivery of Danny Latimer's body by boat onto the shore. Any other candidates for that ? Had Danny gone to Joe for sympathy because his Dad was interfering with him ?
