Broadchurch thread 2- the one where everyone in MNPD requests a transfer to the traffic division

Thread number one.

So are we all still watching, despite the mumbling, bad writing and inaccuracies?

I'm not sure what ClaireGwen is up to, but they've written her to like kinky sex which in telly land means she's a bad un.

Last night's highlight for me was DH's genuine confusion over whether subtitles were for the hearing impaired or vision impaired (he may have had a couple of beers). Also sweaty Lee hammering in fence posts.

Has that junior solicitor fella been in something on CBBC?

When does The Missing season 2 start?

But that would be a weird portrayal surely? The dad was a paedophile while Claire is in an adult sexual relationship - bit dodgy to equate bondage in any way to paedophilia?

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 28/01/2015 21:58

Yes I don't think it would be very appropriate to portray Claire as 'taking after' her murdering paedophile father, just because she likes adult, consensual but kinky sex?

Plus wouldn't it be a bit too much of a coincidence for her to be PQs daughter? The only reason she is near Broadchurch is because DT wanted to be near her and he was living there to work on Danny's murder isn't it? She didn't request to go and live there did she?

It wasn't really clear on whether Claire suggested Broadchurch or DT. Ellie went off on one at Hardy saying he took her promotion just so he could get Claire away but maybe it was the other way round and Claire suggested Broadchurch so Hardy applied for the job (admittedly it's a bit of a co-incidence that there just happened to be a job there).

Thanks for all the skateboard answers. I'd completely forgotten all that!

Monday's episode did make me wonder if Ollie was involved. His mum was too keen to identify Joe. It made me think she might have been sitting up waiting for Ollie (rather than playing online poker) so she wanted to be quite definite on what she had been doing and who she had seen to avoid any further questions about the possibility of it being someone else.

Nerf · 28/01/2015 22:57

How long has Claire been in broadchurch? Was she there when Danny was murdered or just after while they were investigating in series one? I'm not buying it really. How do the bills get paid, who's name are they in?

sassymuffin · 29/01/2015 01:18

I will be very Angry with the writer if the replay of Joe murdering Danny was just an account of Joe's confession, it was not portrayed to the viewer as such.
I have read up on Gracepoint the American version of Broadchurch which has exactly the same story but has a different ending to the British one. It would be very lazy to now decide that Danny's murderer was the same character as the Gracepoint murderer.

katese11 · 29/01/2015 07:23

to whoever asked re Sandbrook...I'm petty sure we've only met one set of parents so far. Sure the other set will turn up too!

I agree that ClaireGwen could be the murderous daughter of PQ's murderous husband but the kinky sex=paedophilia thing is a bit far for me!

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 29/01/2015 09:28

Oooh sassy which character was the murderer in Gracepoint?

Fiderer · 29/01/2015 09:32

Downy
Young girl lived next door to Lee and Claire - so Ricky her dad is that right? Woman DT went to see was her mum? Is that the same woman who was all disapproving as older girl looking out the window at Lee while doing young girls hair? I didn't think same actor? Yes to all

Older girl have we seen her dad apart from in photo with brother? Have we seen her mum? No And that is the girl whose body hasn't been found? Yes

Fiderer · 29/01/2015 09:36

Will Don't know if it counts as a spoiler, so here's the Guardian article for people wanting to know.

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 29/01/2015 09:50

Thanks fiderer - yes it will be rubbish if they just go with that murderer now, especially as it has been in the media so is already 'out there'.

sassymuffin · 29/01/2015 10:29

Thanks fiderer I didn't want to say the name in case somebody wanted to watch Gracepoint and I ruined it by posting a massive spoiler Grin

Sunnymeg · 29/01/2015 10:31

I'm sure I read somewhere that the second series of Broadchurch is to be shown in America. So I'm convinced we are going to get the American ending.

MmeMorrible · 29/01/2015 10:39

Here's a link to the Gracepoint wiki with a synopsis of each of the 10 episodes including the identity of the killer, for those that want to know.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gracepoint

Fiderer · 29/01/2015 10:53

Grin at DT being called Emmett Carver.

I think showing S2 of Broadchurch they must mean the UK version as it'll air on BBC America. Fox, who did the US version, have announced there'll be no second season of Gracepoint.

My favourite quote from S1 was when DT announced that Tom should do the reconstruction. Hardy keeps on about it. Ellie first says no, she doesn't want him to, he's just lost his best friend, I'll decide, I'm his mum, and then:

"With respect sir, move away from me now, or I will piss in a cup and throw it at you" Grin

APlaceInTheWinter · 29/01/2015 12:09

Maybe it wasn't PQ's husband that murdered and abused their DD - maybe it was PQ Shock and she's now bumped off Danny too *

I can almost understand why Sandbrook mum might not have thought her husband's affair with Claire was relevant but I'm really struggling with the idea that she wouldn't have thought it important to clarify that she couldn't give her DH an alibi for the night of the murder because he was 'allegedly' off shagging the bridesmaid.

*Disclaimer - I don't believe this but would like to see more of PQ as I think she's fab in this.

floellabenjaminsearrings · 29/01/2015 13:08

Totally agree, but having read the Guardian article, I can also see it really going that way.

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 29/01/2015 13:15

But surely they won't go with American ending as it will be that the 'big reveal' has essentially been, um, revealed?

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 29/01/2015 13:16

mean not be

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 29/01/2015 13:23

Wait, also the autopsy said he was strangled, and it was by large hands, and the second autopsy after the exhumation said nothing different.

So it can't be the American ending, yay!

DownyEmerald · 29/01/2015 13:26

Why did PQ turn on her son, Nigel in court?

FoxyMcFox · 29/01/2015 19:46

Because she wanted to make friends with him but he told her to get stuffed thus causing her to throw her toys out of the pram and point the finger.
