Thread number one.

So are we all still watching, despite the mumbling, bad writing and inaccuracies?

I'm not sure what ClaireGwen is up to, but they've written her to like kinky sex which in telly land means she's a bad un.

Last night's highlight for me was DH's genuine confusion over whether subtitles were for the hearing impaired or vision impaired (he may have had a couple of beers). Also sweaty Lee hammering in fence posts.

Has that junior solicitor fella been in something on CBBC?

When does The Missing season 2 start?

yy Link to short story please! And is it fan written or from the producers?

Fiderer · 28/01/2015 14:08

Will I posted on the other thread about Joe going for Danny after he said about Joe wanting to do things to him and why didn't he do them to Tom. Then Joe pinned him up against the wall and strangled him.

Not that my memory is super sharp - I re-watched S1 a couple of weeks back Grin

My head is spinning at the Claire/Lee story. If she was involved in the murder and Lee covered for her, why did she hide from him? She says DT persuaded her to admit Lee hadn't been with her all night, but if they were covering for each other, why? Unless she thought it was her only way to get rid of him, even if he wasn't guilty.

atticusclaw · 28/01/2015 14:10

Right I'm joining this thread to encourage me to stick with the pile of nonsense that Broadchurch has become. We are both lawyers so are sitting there shouting at the TV and rolling our eyes. This series has completely ruined a brilliant programme IMO.

Maybe you guys will persuade me otherwise though.

Fullpleatherjacket · 28/01/2015 14:33

I wonder whether they are using slightly older actors due to the more adult material. The actor playing Danny had some scenes with Joe showing what happened when they met up in the hut

That makes sense, LifeOfBriony Smile

Are there any theories about the argument Danny had with the hi-vis postman? It seemed to go very quiet as a lead in the first series but I think it may well be a factor in this.

MissM · 28/01/2015 15:03

I enjoyed sweaty Lee too. In fact, I almost watch it more for him than DT now. I don't get how a single mum with a husband up on child murder charges gets to go off for the weekend though - who on earth is looking after the toddler? I reckon the weasly vicar isn't' all he's cracked up to be either - why on earth suggest a rehab for paedophiles charity to a mother bereaved by (supposedly) a paedophile and expect her to think it's a marvellous idea?

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 28/01/2015 15:16

Just looked up the short story and it appears that you can buy a short story which is released after each episode? Is it only for kindle? How did I not know about this?!

EauRouge · 28/01/2015 15:47

They want us to pay money for it? Bugger that, if the writing is anything like the episodes so far then I'm not forking out.

OP posts:
Clawdy · 28/01/2015 15:59

Claire doesn't appear to be remotely afraid of Lee - she is very odd, curiously unattractive in looks and personality. Find myself hoping she is the killer.

FoxyMcFox · 28/01/2015 16:10

The clip showing us what happened when Danny was murdered wasn't shown as "this is the story as I am telling it" from Joe's angle, it was simply "59 (or whatever) days earlier" which implies that it was factual.

OnlyLovers · 28/01/2015 16:12

Claire IS weirdly unattractive, isn't she? I've never felt right about her from the start.

And how has she always got such a perfect manicure? Does someone come out to the middle of nowhere to do it? I know she's got plenty of time on her hands to do her nails, but it's a seriously good job.

HouseOfBamboo · 28/01/2015 16:15

This may have been posted before but this website is good for catching up on back-story (and wasting many happy hours).

broadchurch.wikia.com/wiki/Broadchurch_Wiki

I didn't see the first series so apologies if this is a stoopid question, but why the issue of the two bald men (Joe and Pauline Quirke's son) being confused for each other if the person with the body in the boat was wearing a woolly hat? Confused

diddl · 28/01/2015 17:09

Just watched part of the last Ep of series 1.

So, DT gets to joe as Joe has danny's phone & has switched it on.

he says to DT, "I'm sick of hiding" or words to that effect.

Danny ran away & stood at the edge & Joe took him back to the house/hut that they met at.

Then Danny said something like "why don't you (want to?) do these things to Tom?"

Joe gets angry & strangles him.

Puts him in the boat & takes him to where he was found, placing his skateboard next to him.

PQ's character sees this & sees him drag the boat back into the water.

So, if he's telling DT the truth, he killed Danny & placed his body where it was found.

Fiderer · 28/01/2015 17:19

Plus there was the scene where the police allow (turning blind eye way) Mark to talk to Joe in the cell. Joe says "I'm sorry" and then something like "I left him on the beach so you'd find him."

diddl · 28/01/2015 17:32

Oh yes!

and of course while Joe is cleaning up, Mark arrives back with Becca(?)

They had met there earlier & gone off in one car.

When Joe is talking to the priest in the first ep of this series, & he says that he can't go to prison & they've(?) all got secrets I thought so fucking what!!

Mark had hit Danny & danny went to the Millers & got talking to joe & said that he couldn't talk to his dad/parents like that.

So he's trying to excuse it & I suppose this is why he wants all the shit to come out.

Mark hit Danny therefore he came to us a lot & we got closeHmm

Surreyblah · 28/01/2015 18:02

I don't like the way DT's character is such a shit, unprofessional officer, jeopardising cases. Or the way he treats OC's character, speaking to her like she's beneath him and refusing to answer any Qs.

I don't buy that she would just leave her older son alone and not try harder to get through to him, that she would risk her employment by collaborating with DT's idiocy, or that she would be able to just work any hours, go out and travel all the time - we never see her organising any childcare at all, apart from saying that her CM wanted the toddler overnight to "bond"! Even the most flexible CMs and close family are not THAT flexible surely!

SignoraLiviaBurlando · 28/01/2015 18:34

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo Thanks ( and to your DH too - wanna stay there!!!

Also - am a bit behind with the thread what with work etc, but agree lovely to see Vince the dog back too Grin

MadameJulienBaptiste · 28/01/2015 18:48

Did sweaty Lee do time or did the pendant cockups mean he was in France to escape all the publicity?

Anyone else think there wasn't much chemistry between lee and Claire when she opened the door.

And omg that bit were the camera panned down the bed to where lee had the blanket as low as it could go...
oh boy he was really sweating in that scene.

hollyisalovelyname · 28/01/2015 18:53

OnlyLovers funny you should say that about Clare's nails. I noticed it too...For a woman in fear of a stalker, in the back of beyonds, she gets a Shellac!!!
Why did PQ turn against Nigel?
OC's character a bit odd this season. Her dh in prison and she's not bothered with either of her children.
She is accused in court of having an affair with DT (wrongly which upset her) but what do they do next .....off with them to an hotel to share a bed.
Suspend your disbelief!!!!

APlaceInTheWinter · 28/01/2015 19:36

^Are there any theories about the argument Danny had with the hi-vis postman?
When Charlotte Rampling said Danny delivered her newspaper I thought she might also mention something that explained the argument with the postman but alas no.

It's all getting quite confusing again but in a good way. Can anyone remember if PQ gave the police Danny's skateboard in series 1? iirc it was in her cupboard but I can't recall what happened to it in the end.

I thought it was quite clever the way they used PQ saying she saw Nige as a big revelation because she was just repeating her statement. She had thought it was him so it wasn't new but it felt quite shocking to hear it again. I wonder if the defence will make Nige their 'alternative murderer' now rather than the Dad or if they'll say it was the Dad but Nige helped to cover it up because they're in it together/mates/work together/Dad threatened to reveal Nige's dad's past.

PandasRock · 28/01/2015 19:51

PQ gave the skateboard to Tom in s1, who rode it home (neatly obscuring any forensics) where OC had a fit when she saw it (as did Joe).

In the book of s1, the argument with the postie is explained away as the postie being annoyed because someone had keyed his car, and the only person around was Danny, so postie was asking if he knew anything about it. Postie came forward with this info voluntarily iirc.

PandasRock · 28/01/2015 19:53

Oh, and when PQ gave Tom the skateboard, it was the first or second time they had met. She bumped into him on purpose, and befriended him by way of her dog, presumably in order to get rid of the skateboard. I can't remember why she had it, particularly, except she saw the body being arranged on the beach, and went over and spent time with Danny after Koe had gone.

She did originally think it was Nigel, I reckon, and was worried her son was turning out to be like his dad. Why she is repeating it, I have no idea.

FoxyMcFox · 28/01/2015 20:09

PQ never explained why she had picked up the skateboard.

Also she wasn't quizzed in court on why it took her so long to come forward and say she had seen Danny's body being dumped despite the fact that OC's sister had a grilling for the same thing.

DownyEmerald · 28/01/2015 20:16

I am really confused about the Sandbrook lot - anyone help?

The girls were cousins so there's two sets of parents.

Young girl lived next door to Lee and Claire - so Ricky her dad is that right? Woman DT went to see was her mum? Is that the same woman who was all disapproving as older girl looking out the window at Lee while doing young girls hair? I didn't think same actor?

Older girl have we seen her dad apart from in photo with brother? Have we seen her mum? And that is the girl whose body hasn't been found?

Sorry, usually I can keep up with all this, but I don't have time to watch all the episodes again!

bananananacoconuts · 28/01/2015 20:33

Had a theory after watching Mondays ep again tonight.

Could Claire be PQ's daughter? (Said before I know) but is all the shagging and the tie me up, I like being slapped a clue that she is the one who takes after her father and not Nige thus hinting that she is a bigger part in the Sandbrook murders than w e are currently led to believe?

phonyics · 28/01/2015 21:32

Ooh yes, Claire being PQ's daughter who turns out to have not fallen far from her dad's tree fits with what we've seen so far I think!
