There just aren't enough reassuring titwanks in Mantel's work.

KatieScarlettreregged · 04/02/2015 23:20

Norfolk is superb, loved the yanking away from Francois scene and the angry dancing. Though I thought Anne would never have publicly tried to hit him in the presence of both Kings. Still, she was about to boff H8 so could have had a case of the invincibles but it just felt wrong to me. Funny though.

KatieScarlettreregged · 04/02/2015 23:24

There are a few French practices mentioned. One so vile Mary ex Queen of France had to write down to tell Brandon, in latin.
Who knew a BJ was so sinful?
A nice titwank sounds just the ticket!

AnneofCheese · 04/02/2015 23:29

See us peasants were too busy swilling around in our plague pits to know that titwanks and bjs were sinful. Bet we'd have been doling them out 24/7 - no telly back then. We'd have sorted that Royal court right out, after a hot bath and a de-lousing

SkaterGrrrrl · 04/02/2015 23:34

Loved tonight's episode, its moving fast now.

Do not, for the love of god, watch The Other Boleyn Girl to keep you going in between episodes. M R plays Ann Boleyns father and Mary 's husband is Benedict Cumberbatch.

squoosh · 04/02/2015 23:35
Grin

Indeed and we'd only stop for a a quick prayer on a Sunday and then back to our sinful ways.

Ten jugs of small beer + one broad hipped wench + one lusty stable hand = a Tudor party.

marshmallowpies · 04/02/2015 23:36

Ugh I hated the Other Boleyn Girl. Mark Rylance looked like he was embarrassed to be in it!

ExitPursuedByABear · 05/02/2015 08:24

Ahem. The tone of this thread is descending into the gutter!

Still loving it, BUT, the way TC removes his cap is starting to get on my ample tits.

TheVestalVirgin · 05/02/2015 08:50

Not much chance of a panicky tit wank if you didn't have fulsome norkage.

Anne probably had to resort to stealthy prodding of Henry's prostate whilst dispensing a BJ. Not that I would personally have knowledge of such devil tricks of course [prim]

TheVestalVirgin · 05/02/2015 09:05

Anne - are you heading into work dressed as Norfolk in a doublet and hose? Or are you just going to channel his ire and casually cuff a few people around the head as they queue at the coffee machine?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 05/02/2015 09:17

While threatening to bite them if they don't hurry the fuck up.

flippinada · 05/02/2015 09:30

Loved this. Favourite bit was sweary Norfolk. The bit where TC confessed to being terrified of sweary Norfolk made me laugh (but...did he really mean it?)

Also, did anyone notice More's good stained clothing? Nice touch.

flippinada · 05/02/2015 09:30

*food stained.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 05/02/2015 09:54

still not convinced in the least by MR, but I LOVE Anne

I know she's not sexeh and that, but I do like the Fuck Off stares

and the angry 'dancing' was brilliant

loved the coronation, and the lying prone bit- to give you a little at what's to come

Optimist1 · 05/02/2015 09:56

Loving AnneofCheese 's taking on the Norfolk persona at work, and wondering whether that would have been a more effective style of management for me to adopt?

Being a bit of a history dullard, I'd be very grateful if someone could tell me the significance of the tapestry last night?

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 05/02/2015 10:02

I think MR has been cast to make the character shaggable sympathetic, with his soft voice and his claspy hat in handy

if he looked more like this none of you would be queueing up, would you

WOULD YOU??

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 05/02/2015 10:03

The Norfolk persona only works as a career strategy if you combine it with shameless sucking up to your superiors and being prepared to do the dirty jobs that no-one else will. And no loyalty to anyone, even your nearest and dearest.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 05/02/2015 10:03

wasn't it just that it was a gift, showing favour?

contrasting with some allusion to Thomas More being skint/off the payroll?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 05/02/2015 10:06

EXACTLY MUDDHA.

Now I am on my laptop I can link the Catholic Herald: grumpy bishops

This bit nails it:

'The Lord Chancellor of England, played by Anton Lesser in the BBC Two Tudor history drama, is depicted as a cold and creepy misogynist who keeps a brain-damaged man imprisoned in his house apparently for his own entertainment.

Thomas Cromwell, who as King Henry VIII’s Chief Minister helped to send St Thomas to his death, is in contrast projected as a deeply human, enlightened and modern man who cuddles kittens.'

I would still rather shag More. Not THAT Thomas More perhaps, but A Thomas More.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 05/02/2015 10:10

Why can't Mark Rylance play Thomas More?

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 05/02/2015 10:12

I can see why the bishops are grumpy

does anyone else think this is a bit of nortiness on HM's part, as a vehemently ex Catholic?

I would also rather do More. Not this More, or heretic torturing More, but daughter-educating, jamming-with-Erasmus, joking-on-the-scaffold, principled Paul Scofield More

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 05/02/2015 10:13

I think Rylance would have been a GREAT More. And Ecclestone as TC.

why won't they listen to me

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 05/02/2015 10:14

Yes, totally it's HM on the wind-up. And I love that she did it.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 05/02/2015 10:18

I do too,Countess

just read article. Which articulated neatly all my ranting to OH every Wednesday for the last 3 weeks

oh jeeez, I have leanings

Travelledtheworld · 05/02/2015 10:25

I just have to say:
I am a (lapsed) Methodist. But I have had dinner with both the present Bishop of Norwich and a previous Bishop of Durham and found them both charming and amusing.

[Smug emoticon]
