@squoosh ah yes, but it was opening the door to let people think for themselves. Obviously what it led to ultimately was splinter group after splinter group arguing about exactly what transubstantiation meant and multiple Protestant churches instead of one. Cue much arguing and strife, and arguably much worse, all the random cults and splitting branches of the Anglican Church. I'm sure in its own way it has brought enough trouble on the world!

KatieScarlettreregged · 04/02/2015 22:53

So basically I want to be Mary Carey.

TheVestalVirgin · 04/02/2015 22:53

Squoosh I think that was more than likely my Mum Hmm

squoosh · 04/02/2015 22:54

Yes I like Mary. Lots of spirit and a very active undercarriage by the looks of things.

AnneofCheese · 04/02/2015 22:54

I always thought Eddie Izzard explained the Reformation quite well

My religious faith would have gone whichever way I felt the political breeze was blowing. No way I'd have been committed enough to a belief system to endure being burnt to death a la Anne Askew.

TheVestalVirgin · 04/02/2015 22:58

I want to wear a silken kirtle and a rope of pearls draped beguilingly over my fulsome bosom. I could exchange smouldering glances with a lusty courtier over a trencher of venison and a hanap of Rhenish wine.

AnneofCheese · 04/02/2015 23:00

I'm just so happy they've done such a gorgeous, brilliant job of adapting one of my favourite books. Usually I'm gutted when tv adapts something I love. Except p&p 1995 * fist bumps citronvert

squoosh · 04/02/2015 23:01

I'd have been a sluttish kitchen wench with only one greasy frock to my name. I'd get my jollies with the bloke who was Overseer of the Royal Chamber Pot.

I know my place.

TheVestalVirgin · 04/02/2015 23:02

Loved P&P too. Loved how the actresses all put weight on so they'd have more convincing 1800s figures.

AnneofCheese · 04/02/2015 23:03

My bosom is not a royal court bosom, sadly. I'm very much a wench.

AnneofCheese · 04/02/2015 23:04

Oh, x-post squoosh! I've too much t&a to be anything but a saucy servant

TheVestalVirgin · 04/02/2015 23:04

I think you mean 'the Groom of the Stool' Squoosh. The poor numpty actually tasked with wiping the royal are after they'd done a dump Grin

TheVestalVirgin · 04/02/2015 23:05

Royal ARSE, not royal are.

squoosh · 04/02/2015 23:05

Me too Anne, there's nothing regal about my bosom and my hips would be a clear giveaway as to my peasant origins.

squoosh · 04/02/2015 23:08

'Groom of the Stool', oh yes that sounds much better! You may laugh Vestal but I'll have you know that his attentions are much fought over in the kitchens. I had to warn off many a wanton wench who tried to hitch her skirts in his direction.

TheVestalVirgin · 04/02/2015 23:09

But fulsome boobs were fashionable at Court. Anne was disparaged for being flat chested [admires own norks]

TheVestalVirgin · 04/02/2015 23:09

I'm assuming he washes his hands regularly?

AnneofCheese · 04/02/2015 23:10

Oh well squoosh at least we wouldn't be tasked with boinking H8 while he was waiting for Anne. Can you imagine how terrified you'd be if H8 tried to shag you then couldn't get it up?

squoosh · 04/02/2015 23:10

There's a noble fulsome quivering bosom and then there are pendulous peasant tits.

marshmallowpies · 04/02/2015 23:11

I thought they were very kind to Princess (Bloody) Mary - a much more attractive actress than how she looks in some of her portraits! (& how she has looked in other films, like Kathy Burke in 'Elizabeth', though obviously playing her as a older and iller woman by then). And Joanne Whalley is still so young looking!

squoosh · 04/02/2015 23:12

Eeeeek, can you imagine trying to comfort him as to his flaccid fella? 'don't worry about it Henry dear it happens to all men..........ummmm, not that I'd know as I am a simple VIRGIN sire, yes definitely a virgin'.

AnneofCheese · 04/02/2015 23:14

Bernard Hill is also just fucking great. I'm going to go into the office tomorrow and pretend I'm the Duke of Norfolk, will be so satisfying.

KatieScarlettreregged · 04/02/2015 23:16

Oh god yes. H8 would have you burned as a witch for unmanning him if he as much as puckered while DTD.
But seeing as how I'm Mary Carey, I have no worries on that score so I'd do Henry if he looked like DL.

AnneofCheese · 04/02/2015 23:16

"To my virginal eyes sire it is a mighty royal staff! I tremble before it!"
