Notebooks at the ready Grin We should have enough information at the end of the first episode to start cooking up some slightly implausible theories.

The Sandbrook situation is making me quite uncomfortable. There are definite parallels with Lee/Claire and what is publicly known about Maxine Carr and Ian Huntley. I really hope the writer is NOT referencing that case but I do think we're heading towards a 'it was an accident' scenario which is Huntley claimed in his defence AND is what Joe implied when confessed. It's not good.

MadameJulienBaptiste · 20/01/2015 19:21

When this thread ends the new one should be called 'is anyone still watching Broad Peaks?' Or Twin Churches.
I really tried last night. Really really tried to watch it, and felt like a child who's just been told santa isn't real.
maybe we've all just been watching one of those spoof sketches, and dawn french will be playing the caravan owner who pops back when mark and tom are sat there playing computer games.

EauRouge · 20/01/2015 19:46

They could rescue it easily; Baptiste goes on holiday to Dorset. Job done.

Fabulous idea, Eau! Smile

eddiemairswife · 20/01/2015 19:54

Didn't Claire say Lee had thoroughly cleaned the house after he'd drugged her and the girls disappeared. That made me think of Ian Huntley.

ArsenicFaceCream · 20/01/2015 19:57

I'm not sure Baptiste should lower himself.

seaoflove · 20/01/2015 19:58

I think the next thread should be called "No, Joe is NOT covering for Tom".

I remember reading the transcripts of the Huntley/Carr trial. I can't remember his story for how the first girl died "accidentally", but didn't he then say the second girl died after he "accidentally" suffocated her trying to muffle her screams? I do hope that trial isn't mirrored in Sandbrook. Although nothing would surprise me now with this show.

MmeMorrible · 20/01/2015 20:26

Ok, just finished watching series I wand you were all right, there is no credible way that Joe can be not guilty. The flashback is shown as fact, complete with a 59 days earlier banner before it.

I had assumed the flashback would be shown with Joe's explanation under interview as a voiceover and therefore would be his version of events but that isn't at allow it was done.

In other musings, how geographically distant are Broadchurch and the previous case location meant to be?

katese11 · 20/01/2015 20:44

Broadchurch is near Weymouth, and ClaireSandbrook lived in Southampton - so 30 miles or so?

MmeMorrible · 20/01/2015 20:49

Hmm so it's feasible that someone in Broadchurch could be involved in the Sandbrook case? Nige?

northernlurker · 20/01/2015 21:04

Thanks Eddie - I knew something else had struck a chord but couldn't remember what. It's really grim. I will be very angry if they go down that path.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/01/2015 22:00

Who is the Welsh woman??

And yes Claire said she woke up to find lee cleaning. I did think a bit Ian Huntley

Who was looking after Beth's baby while she was in court?

candykane25 · 20/01/2015 22:17

Blonde, Beth's older daughter was looking after the baby.

Icimoi · 20/01/2015 23:22

So when did the daughter acquire the skills to look after a newborn baby? I suppose she might have experience as a babysitter, but I wouldn't fancy leaving a newborn on the day of her birth with an inexperienced teenager.

Icimoi · 20/01/2015 23:24

What prisons allow visitors around 7 a.m? It must have been around then given that the mother left at around 4 a.m. and said she had a long drive back.

APlaceInTheWinter · 21/01/2015 01:01

Did anyone manage to read the texts on Claire's phone when Ellie had it in the bar? I thought one said something about a trial, and another about being guilty but it was too quick.

I also thought the baby wasn't Mark's. Whenever someone makes a big declaration like 'I'm your Dad' , it usually means they aren't Grin It will make Beth such a hypocrite considering the hard time she gave her DH about his affair.

I'm also guessing that the lawyer asked Charlotte Rampling to defend her son and she refused hence why she was so shocked at her taking this case. But really it's all a bit meh . . . except for DT's increasingly striking auburn hair - it seems to have a life of its own!

katese11 · 21/01/2015 07:26

icimoi given that baby had the world's longest gestation, presumably it popped out ready to look after itself? It's probably on solids already.

LillianGish · 21/01/2015 07:31

Grin Kate

ChaiseLounger · 21/01/2015 07:33

It seems to all be getting a bit ridiculous now. Which is not what series 1 was. Author wrote it as a trilogy. I can't see myself wanting to watch series 3 at this rate.

GentlyBenevolent · 21/01/2015 07:46

Series 1 had a PYSCHIC. It was great, as is this series, I think people are kidding themselves that IT was any more realistic. Realism was abandoned in episode 1 series 1 when Beth ran 4 miles in 2 minutes in heels.

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 21/01/2015 08:04

I thought of Maxine Carr and Ian huntely after last night's episode as well - there was a scene where Alec asked Claire if there was anything she wasn't telling him and it flashed back to her slapping lee and saying 'what have you done?'

Actually was it actually shown to be Lee that she slapped or was it just 'a man'?

I think Jocelyn prosecuted the son.

APlaceInTheWinter · 21/01/2015 08:49

I liked the psychic in series 1. Maybe they'll bring him back . I found him much more believable than Hardy's adhoc witness protection/suspect spying scheme.

Fleeceblankets · 21/01/2015 08:56

Can MNPD explain two things to me please?

When Ellie and DT are in one of the last scenes together and she says 'So Claire is a suspect, and you've thought that all along' or something to that effect - what is it that made the penny drop? How/when did she realise this?

What is Claire meant to be living off? Is DT paying for her house and bills etc?
