James Nesbitt is redeemed for me and his Yellow pages ads forgiven.

Maybe the Thomson holiday ads too....

Nightboattocairo · 17/12/2014 04:47

I noticed the boy's hair was patchy when he opened the door. Hair doesn't grow back after a serious injury....Just a thought?

BingoBonkers · 17/12/2014 06:31

As soon as I saw the fox and Olleh followed it I couldn't help but think "Really????"

R4roger · 17/12/2014 06:54

there was a lot of blood remember. olly is not dead. but nesbitt, and some of us, like to think he is.
excellent series. unusually excellent ending

R4roger · 17/12/2014 06:55

oops olly is dead, but James Nesbitt, and some of us, like to think he is still alive. that should have said

LePetitMarseillais · 17/12/2014 07:00

I should probably know this but what happened to the bloke that was supposed to bump him off?Was he dead,as Tony would have surely tracked him down to find out from him?

youarekiddingme · 17/12/2014 07:03

I re watched the end (just couldn't leave it!) and realised it was Julien ringing Tony to tell him about George's.
Interestingly I think we'd all assumed he knew this information before he left France.

I've decided the ending is brilliant because it's leaving is all empathising and wondering with the parents and really feeling all the emotions is each character. Last night I was annoyed that we didn't actually know!

bottleofbeer · 17/12/2014 07:19

I want to stand on that Romanians toes and head butt him Grin

RumbaRumba · 17/12/2014 07:20

I also thought it was pretty unlikely a 5yr old (I have one) would leave a parent to follow a fox. Even one that looked bizarrely mystical!

And yes, the patchy hair on the Russian boy at the end, that HAS to be significant. Before he opened the door to Tony I was expecting it to be someone much older as that's what the back view suggested.

PoinsettiaGordino · 17/12/2014 07:24

I think it was a good ending. Loose ends don't get tied up.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 17/12/2014 07:25

I loved the ending and have been thinking all night about the what ifs.

So sad that if Alain had just answered Tony's call for his son at the roadside, they would probably just have had a night or so in hospital for Olleh to recover and the family would have gone home together. Ok Alain would have gone to prison but who cares frankly.

The fallout from appalling decisions and the drive for self preservation. Just awful.

WastingMyYoungYears · 17/12/2014 07:35

Yes, all the missed opportunities for Ollie to be saved:
Alain immediately after he hit him with his car
Alain when Tony called out
Georges when Ollie was in the boot
The baddie when he found that Ollie was alive

It's all so sad Sad.

But I agree that it has been written in such a way as to show you Tony's and Emily's different ways of moving on, and that both of these ways may be based on what really happened.

Oh I think it's entirely plausible that a five year old would follow a Fox. Bit twee that it was a Fox, given that Ollie loved them. A cat or something...

If only Alain hadn't at least tried to do the right thing (he was about to call an ambulance until he heard Tony shouting) a bit and run would have bee preferable under the circumstances because he'd not have ended up at the mercy of the Romanian and would probably have been found and taken to hospital.

bottleofbeer · 17/12/2014 07:51

Hit and run*

bottleofbeer · 17/12/2014 07:53

But I don't really see how Sylvie could have been kept in the dark about her husband's involvement. A resolution to the case and the Mayor, her BIL being involved would have been all over the news.

SolomanDaisy · 17/12/2014 08:12

I found last night's episode very disturbing. I actually wish I hadn't watched it. I think it was a well written ending and did tie up with the first episode as it concentrated on the reactions of the parents. All that extra blood after the Romanian said Ollie had seen his face, it seems pretty certain Ollie was dead. The huge tragedy of Tony being unable to accept that and turning into someone who frightens children was very unsettling. The idea that his only home is in the hunt for Ollie is awful, I found that as disturbing as the scenes with Ollie.

The only thing that didn't make sense was that Baptiste and Laurence didn't seem interested in tracking down a gangster who murdered a child.

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 17/12/2014 08:14

Yes, I think it would have come out after Georges had died, I think Tony just didn't want to be the one to tell her. Maybe because he appreciated her caring so much and didn't want to be the one to hurt her, or maybe because he would only be telling her out of revenge because Alain asked him not to tell. Or maybe he even felt a bit sorry for Alain in the end.

HoHonutty · 17/12/2014 08:22

I really really wanted the last frame to go inside Russian Ollies house and for us to know the person he lives with, someone like Rini or her brother.

Feel seriously cheated.

bottleofbeer · 17/12/2014 08:23

It's weird that the writers assured viewers there is a definitive ending when it was anything but. The ending left scope for Ollie to be alive, even if unlikely.

MonstrousPippin · 17/12/2014 08:25

I just keep thinking that the Romanian slasher did show Olleh's body to the mayor. For him to blow his own head off with a shot gun without saying "but he's alive", he must have truly believed he was dead from what he saw. Was Olleh miraculous enough to have two fake deaths in as many days and was the mayor stupid enough to mistake him for dead again ?

Because of this I think Olleh is more likely dead and Tony was just looking for boys who looked like the mock-up of an older Olleh. It was just an artist's impression after all.

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 17/12/2014 08:28

The photo mockup also looked a lot like James. I think for the Emilys amongst us the ending was closure enough. The Tonys amongst us will keep asking questions until they go to Russia and grow crazy beards Grin
