Over 45's telly memories alert.
I'm going to start practising leaping into my car through the window and driving into piles of empty boxes in alleyways Grin

pieceofpurplesky · 16/12/2014 22:32

Maybe the new series will interlink ... Finding out about another missing child and end up finding ollie??? Same gang ...

Cocolate · 16/12/2014 22:32

Yes the drawing was outside of a window. I liked the ending. Julian was right though: far better for Ollie to be dead than any of the other likely endings for him.

storynanny2 · 16/12/2014 22:32

Any ideas about why he went to Russia?
What a lot of red herrings, not going to bother with another 8 hours.
Maybe the second series will be about the missing girl Molly? Unless I've got totally lost and Molly was Vincente or Rini?
I'm disappointed with the ending.

LePetitMarseillais · 16/12/2014 22:32

Writers said in RT and Guardian viewers will get closure at the end of series 1 and they don't want anybody left frustrated sooooo I'm guessing that must mean he's dead and Tony is now a tad unhinged.Sad

HedgePony · 16/12/2014 22:33

So MEAN of George to shoot himself and not tell them where the body was :-(

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 16/12/2014 22:33

I was a teenager in the 90s, so I'm going to go with a Scully-esque trench coat and a torch because I will never turn on the lights in any room that we go into.

Cocolepew · 16/12/2014 22:33

Desperately sad. Thought it was a good ending, I don't think it was Ollie. Poor old Jimmy Nesbitts gone mad looking for him..

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 16/12/2014 22:34

I thought the Vincent story does enhance the series though. We were led to believe that he didn't act on his desires and was desperate to be cured / normal and tried everything to be so. And failed. His only option was suicide. It was interesting, and rare, to see a paedophile depicted this way. They must have done a good job of it because we were sympathising with him. Now that doesn't happen often.

mewkins · 16/12/2014 22:34

George may have just seen something wrapped up though - may not have been the body.

Anyone else wonder why there was no blood on the road? And no tyre marks either.

BeyondTheTreelights · 16/12/2014 22:34

I'm under thirty and i got it Grin

Janus · 16/12/2014 22:34

No, I'm assuming Tony has become unhinged and drew that picture on the window of the police car. He didn't find Ollie, the boy would have remembered him and said something in English. The police said Tony had been harassing boys all over the region. He just can't quite give up.
I found the whole episode deeply distressing and sad, to survive the car crash and then be murdered, I sobbed.

Ayse1980ayse · 16/12/2014 22:36

The drawing in the snow is on the minibus window parked near the play park (JN walks towards it in the beginning of the episode).

edamsavestheday · 16/12/2014 22:37

I enjoyed it but blubbed a bit when Emily 'saw' Ollie during her wedding speech. Quite like it being left with loose ends like real life as opposed to fiction.

The contrast between Tony going mad and Emily managing to hold onto real life was nicely done. I liked Tony sparing Sylvie too.

It showed the fallout all round, not just for the parents - Ziane, Vincent, the Mayor, perhaps even Baptiste's daughter if he followed Tony's advice.

BOFster · 16/12/2014 22:37

The wedding speech made me well up. Well, Olleh appearing. Very moving.

HedgePony · 16/12/2014 22:37

It was so so distressing to watch and I was in tears. A few years back, before DC, it wouldn't have really affected me but now I'm a mother.... it's awful. I feel genuinely upset and unsettled.

susiedaisy · 16/12/2014 22:38

I'm disappointed mostly because there was no twist in the final episode. After 7 weeks of complicated storylines with loads of different characters it turns out that most of them were completely irrelevant and it was simply a road traffic accident with a drunk driver.

CrapBag · 16/12/2014 22:38

Fuck!

I actually did not believe that it was Alain drink driving. Those scenes were so hard to watch. Stupid fucking mayor for not checking if he was dead or not.

I believe he is alive, the stick man on the window was looking out of the flats over the playground to the direction where Tony was stood, not from a car.

I thought it was a good ending. It would have been much worse and a horrible series if it had turned out to be paedophiles or child trafficking. I think it had to be an accident.

I though Sylvie knew though and lured Tony back with the picture on Facebook. Bit of a coincidence there.

meandjulio · 16/12/2014 22:39

[hands Flibberty a huge shawl collared cardigan]

I thought that was very good - would say 'excellent' except for the confession being on the deathbed - would have been better if it had been from Alain in prison to make it more unreliable, although we already have it on the writers' authority that French prisons = instant gangland death Hmm

We got to find out what happened, but were left with a tiny sliver of doubt, which in Tony's case was all he had left to live for. Slight implication that Emily hasn't 'moved on' in the way that people like me think she ought to... that traumatic grief is more complicated that that. I liked the visual line of boys sitting at the wedding tables leading back to Ollie in the marquee opening.

Does anyone else think there was a slightly othering approach to the female characters in the series? They were a bit passive - either ineffectual, addicted, insane or under attack. OK I'll exclude Baptiste's girlfriend from that.

patienceisvirtuous · 16/12/2014 22:42

There were no red herrings - everything linked in to the central story. And no loose ends - Ollie was murdered, Tony can't move on - he went to Russia because of the lead re the package sent to the Far East. That Russian boy was not Ollie - just one of many boys Tony fixated on as being Ollie :(

Very sad but very clear cut. I loved it and can't wait to see more of the lovely Baptiste in season 2.

BOFster · 16/12/2014 22:43

The strange artist who picked Tony up was a massive irrelevance, that's for sure.

susiedaisy · 16/12/2014 22:44

So was baptiste daughters problems IMO

plus3 · 16/12/2014 22:44

Actually...I'm really pleased that there was no twist, especially pleased that he wasn't taken by a paedophile ring.

Cocolate · 16/12/2014 22:45

I thought the artist (Monique??) was the lady beside him at the wedding. I thought: aaawwww how nice for him. Xmas Blush

HoHonutty · 16/12/2014 22:45

Really disappointed here. Think the ending has let the whole series down.

Did anyone notice if Vincent's mum was Ian Garrett wife by the way? Looked like her in the photo. Not sure I even care though.....
