I think what the writers have done is chucked in loads of red herrings, dead ends etc so in the end, the viewer is just like Tony- still asking what really happened.

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 16/12/2014 22:19

Would love to know what the other ending choices were, and how they decided on this one.
Disappointed that we didn't find out what happened to Molly.
Thought at he end when Tony was back at his flat there was going to be a letter from Vincent telling him Ollie was alive.

Vistaverde · 16/12/2014 22:20

I think it was a fitting end to the series. Emily accepted Ollie's death and had moved on with her life. Tony, couldn't accept his death and therefore was going round Russia trying to find him.

calzone · 16/12/2014 22:20

It would make you deranged....ConfusedConfused

FlorenceMattell · 16/12/2014 22:20

I would have liked a neater ending. Might not be life but this is a TV drama.
Can't believe scenes with Tony are real. Maybe they are him dreaming.

susiedaisy · 16/12/2014 22:20

I'm beginning to think it was a bit too high brow and subtle for me.

LePetitMarseillais · 16/12/2014 22:21

Oh yes re the drawing being from high up,somebody needs to check.( I can't face it)

When is series 2?

WastingMyYoungYears · 16/12/2014 22:22

Oh, poor Ollie Sad. And bloody stupid Alain and his bloody stupid brother.

What a lot of red herrings there were Confused.

pieceofpurplesky · 16/12/2014 22:23

But what did vincent tell the journalist to make him say Ian killed ollie??????

StrumpersPlunkett · 16/12/2014 22:24

I agree EAU it is just like real life... chasing after every little thing that could possibly be connected.
Vincent was haunted by his paedophilia and the contact he had with Ian Garret hideous but totally unrelated to Ollie.

Flibbertyjibbet · 16/12/2014 22:24

EaurRouge it was me said the throat slitter did the deed.
The next bbc cop tv duo could be 'Flibber and Eau'.

I enjoyed this last ep. I don't get why people feel they've been left hanging. Child died, mayor covered up, tony spends the rest of his life searching for the son he can't accept is dead.

StrumpersPlunkett · 16/12/2014 22:25

I think that vincent told the journalist that ian garret had a boat full of video's of boys being tortured and abused. That would be seen as a good enough reason to find him guilty surely

youarekiddingme · 16/12/2014 22:26

ossicle stupid question but what took tony to Russia in the first place?
Who rung tony at the wedding and what did they say on phone?

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 16/12/2014 22:26

Flibber and Eau has a nice ring to it. Will you be good cop or bad cop?

Water was featured a lot in this series, as was the colour yellow. Next season I am going to predict a lot of green and plenty of beards. A beardy theme.

Nancy66 · 16/12/2014 22:27

Are we mean to assume that Vincent was part of Garrett's paedo ring?

awaynboilyurheid · 16/12/2014 22:27

Loved it too but totally con fussed was that really Ollie in Russia or has tony gone mad seen by the drawing on a pad and on the frozen window? apart from being paedos what had Ian and Vincent to do with it ? Exceptionally well acted by JimmyNisbett but they have left us hanging.

Indianashopgirl · 16/12/2014 22:27

Don't know if Tony drew the pic himself.. Doodling. Can't let go. Very sad.

Doesn't tick enough boxes for us although DH had already suggested a couple of weeks ago that Alain knocked him over drink driving.
( I obviously dismissed that theory!)
Whatever was the Malik story about and what did Vincent tell him?
Also Laurence was obviously giving the heads up to Georges and lying to Baptiste.

Bit deflated. Suppose it was always going to happen. Would have liked a little more but still very good and so difficult to come up with an ending that satisfies. Especially when it's such a sad, needless loss.

BOFster · 16/12/2014 22:28

I'd watch Fibber And Eau. Or Eau And Fibber. Like Cagney And Lacey. Will we have a flasher in the credits? Xmas Grin.

I'm watching Black Mirror now on C4+1, but finding it hard to concentrate after all that.

StrumpersPlunkett · 16/12/2014 22:28

Nancy I definately felt that he was involved if not in a sexual capacity def in an arranging type capacity

Clawdy · 16/12/2014 22:28

Why search Russia and not Romania? Maybe the next series will be a build-up to the Russian link....

KittieCat · 16/12/2014 22:29

Argh! I think it's a mirror of Tony and Emily's take on the situation. The viewer can chose to believe Ollie is dead as Emily has or that he's alive and to be found, as Tony believes.

I re-watched and the window was low down and the drawing was on the outside of it in the snow. Looked like a car window.

Moln · 16/12/2014 22:30

What the hell was the end of the credit? Missed it!!

Liked it - didn't like bready JN at the end (for one mental moment I thought it was supposed to be Ollie grown up a bit - thought to myself he's a teenager the bead is ridiculous for a teenager!!!)

Definitely Ollie is dead and Tony had gone bonkers trying to find him all over Russia (the package to the far east lead) the boy wasn't Ollie, seeing the police told the boy he'd been harassing boys all over Russia so this wasn't the first boy he'd 'identified' as Ollie. Tony drew the picture that was on the window (I can only imagine that from that age that a child probably wouldn't recall the pictures they drew as a young child)

Have to admit I'd never have recognised that was what the ending was supposed to mean if it wasn't for MN!!! I did think Ollie had to be dead seeing all the blood but couldn't really get my head around it all

HedgePony · 16/12/2014 22:30

I think Olleh MUST be dead. The only other solution is that:

(a) George lied to Alain (as George was in on the Romanian gang thing); or

(b) the Romanian dude lied to George (and Olleh was lying in the back of the van unconscious but not dead).

Can't be (a), because even if George was in on the conspiracy, he had no need to lie to Alain - Alain was positive Olleh was dead so George would have let him keep thinking that.

Can't be (b), because why would the Romanian lie to George? George was sure Olleh was dead so the Romanian would have no need to lie (George only came to the house because the Romanian called him and told him to) - he would have just taken Olleh away and let George think he simply buried Olleh, as George requested.

It's all too sad :-(

plus3 · 16/12/2014 22:31

Sobbed through that....
Not disappointed. Think that Romanian throat cutter told the truth 'he saw my face..' And killed Ollie.
So sad that tony has nothing left but to keep searching ....agree that the frost drawing was his.

Was the picture of young Vincent & his mum, Ian Garret's wife? Thought it was.
